Springsteen: Silence Is Unpatriotic
CBS ^ | October 7, 2007

Posted on 10/08/2007 7:24:26 PM PDT by ConservativeStatement

(CBS) It's hard to picture, but Bruce Springsteen turned 58 last month. His breakout hit, "Born to Run," is 32 years old. While rock stars his age are content to tour with their greatest hits, Springsteen launched, last week, what may become his most controversial work as a songwriter.

Even now, Springsteen is an artist in progress, having moved from stories about girls and cars to populist ballads that echo the dust bowl days of Woody Guthrie. Springsteen has put all that together now in his first tour with the E Street Band in four years. As correspondent Scott Pelley reports, he has returned to full-throated rock and roll, and a message that's sharper than ever, damning the war in Iraq, and questioning whether America has lost its way at home.

I wonder if Brucie feels the same way about liberals who want to silence talk radio....or ________ (fill in the blank).

Even before he shilled for sKerry, he was a fake “working man” balladeer. Another phony liberal cloistered in his fortress mansion doling out platitudes and looking down on us little people.

You are a disappontment, Brucie, and your albums are no more than inferior flying discs anymore.

Born to run, born to surrender - a disgrace to New Jersey.

Yeah, it just sucks that Iraq has gone from the bottom of ranking of political freedom in the M.E. to 4th place in political freedom.

You can thank GWB you frikin' a-hole! I guess Iraqis don't deserve non-state sponsored frikin' TV and the Internet, cell phoes, and the FREE Frikin' PRESS! Like you HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!! Jackass!

Here's hoping a young, buff, fit, Marine kicks your little dictator totalitarian loving butt!

He believes that Woody Guthrie / John Steinbeck nonsense about evil capitalists and angelic working man.

Springsteen is another millionaire who wants to destroy the middle class and have two classes: the workers and the ... enlightened leaders. Of course, enlightened leaders are all millionaires who won’t have to stand in line while their children die waiting for treatment.

Edward’s two Americas are the lower and middle classes. He too wants to abolish the middle class.

What a bunch of awful human beings and stupid to boot. Their taxes to pay for this will cripple the country.

China will invade Taiwan as soon as Hillary takes “command.” She and the Dims are too weak to do anything. Plus, Hillary has been bribed by the Communists.

I tend to agree. I'm not sure if he can do any worse than the execrable "Streets of Philadelphia." On the other hand, "Pink Cadillac" and "I'm On Fire" are pretty good songs, even better when covered by someone other than Bruce.

I saw part of this interview. Politics aside, I don’t like his music and never did. Anyway, at one point the interviewer mentioned that Springsteen’s fans (cue: audience file footage) know all the lyrics to his songs. Geesh, ya think? I guess that doesn’t hold to any other musician or rock and roller.

The guy wrote a song that empathizes with suicide bombers.

Sad. I enjoyed his music growing up. Quite the poet.

Now, a rich moron who screwed around on his wife with the girl that plays the tamborine.

I’m not a fan of his but “Pink Cadillac” and “Hungry Heart” are two songs I can appreciate when I hear them on FM. Anything else, the channel gets switched. I went to college with many Jersey kids and when they had Springsteen cranked, I put AC/DC a notch louder. :-)

Rumor has it that he's been screwing around behind the new wife's back too.

A very very rich 911 widow who lives in Rumson, is the specifics of the rumor. His tamborine wife will take home the motherload of divorce settlements, but Bruce will just print more, in that regular old working guy way.

And he bought his daughter a $800,000 horse (she just took up riding) to smooth things over with her. You know, like the guy who works down at the mill.

There is no greater barrier to “revolution” than a strong middle class.

All leftist agendas are focused on removing that barrier — morally, culturally, and especially economically.

dustbowl?

i bet if u looked between brucie’s ears you’d see a dustbowl....bwhahahaah i’ve only seen the boy sing once or twice but when i did i noticed he exhibited weird facial contortions.....leading me to think he had some proctological malfunction...he didn’t seem serene back/down there...the lad appeared ....... well... UNCOMFY..i think this condition might now have spread to his cranium and is somehow presently preventing him from backing his country in a struggle for it’s very survival. But, i could be wrong about this this is just an opinion you understand, since because i aint no proctologist r nuthin’.

I don’t know he changed his name & I don’t know that he is Jewish. All I know is that when I was younger he played in many of the bars I went to. He never said too much and wasn’t a big guy. He was always nice. However I don’t like his ideas concerning politics. That his business, I just wish he wouldn’t push it on the rest of us. He does give money to the local food banks in Monmouth & Ocean counties or did. I don’t keep up with Bruce since I get depressed by much of his music. I would never pay to hear him go on for 15 minutes about his political agenda. He ought to just sing or shut up.

I don’t know how anybody else protests these idiots. In my case, I refuse to listen to their music; I always mute or change the station.

I have taken all my CDs of these cretins and either given them away or destroyed them. I gave 5 CDs of Sheryl Crowe to my girlfriend in Saigon, Vietnam.

Just look at how Sinead O’Connor is doing without attention. I know...who??

The thing all these a’holes need and crave can be removed by a small adjustment on the part of all of us - stop paying attention and stop buying.

Reminds me of people I know who monopolize conversations. Then they look at the quiet ones in the group and realize how annoyed we are. But they won't admit how obnoxious they sound - instead it's our fault for having quiet manners.

One girl I knew flat-out announced "I don't like introverts!" (Ie. people who think before they speak.)

I stared back and said nothing to her.

Name at birth: Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen. Father was of Dutch and Irish extraction; mother is of Italian extraction.Despite his last name having a Jewish ring, Springsteen is actually half Irish, half Italian and was raised Catholic.

Hope that answers your questions. ~Pandora~

I checked with a big fan of his & checked on here. Those are the facts. AS much as I don’t like what he has to say I will say this about him...He will help when asked SOME of the time. He has done some good things for NJ. I remember a concert benefit he did for a murdered cop’s family in Long Branch. He also however can be a real b@stard too. Refusing to play for soldiers when he was at a base rehearsing is one of them. People where I live think he could have done much more to help Asbury Park . After all that really where it all came together for him. I like some of his older stuff as it brings back memories but I don't care for the depressing songs. Many of them do have ties to his life though. I would never pay what he wants for a ticket either.

'Cause libs like us, baby we were born too dumb!"

If it were a contest between idiocy and silence, I would say liberal idiocy is way more unpatriotic, and dangerous, then silence.

I would think, Bruce, if you want to do something patriotic, get some wisdom and understanding. And if all you can do is spout idiotic statements, keep silent.

The E street band, like lots of bands, can crank out some good rock n roll when they want to...

Musically speaking.

But Bruce is just plain not smart enough to understand complex topics. He’s better when he doesn’t write his own stuff.

How brave of him (and original).

If he really wants to show courage about free speech, he should get himself a conservative talk show on an AM band...or maybe he could start an underground conservative college newspaper.

What an *********.

Here is a funny story about how Bob Dylan reacted to Neil Young’s anti-war album in 2006.

From USA TODAY - Interview with Edna Gunderson
Dylan aims to tell a truthful story and nourish it on stage. Keeping it real doesn’t mean copping ideas from CNN or responding to the conflict du jour, which is why you won’t find an updated Masters of War on Modern Times.

“Didn’t Neil Young do that?” he jokes, referring to the rocker’s recent anti-war disc. “What more is there to say? What’s funny about the Neil record, when I heard Let’s Impeach the President, I thought it was something old that had been lying around. I said, ‘That’s crazy, he’s doing a song about Clinton?’”

Why can’t a SINGLE entertainer sing about the blessings of freedom and liberty that God has graced our nation with? And extol the sacrifices made by extraordinary men and women to secure those blessings throughout our history? Why can’t these people praise the continuing sacrifices of today’s American men and women who defeat tyrants and bestow freedom on enslaved people?
