"....closet socialist Republican other than that the latter lacks any opposition"

Liberal Republicans like Giuliani are much more dangerous than liberal democrats,,,,

because liberal Republicans BLUR THE DISTINCTION between conservatism and liberalism,,,

MAKING LIBERALISM MUCH MORE ACCEPTABLE!

P.S. Not to mention what you said!!!

Bullshit. My focus is on electing Duncan Hunter. It's the RINOs who have back-stabbed GOP conservative candidates, big-time. The list is so long I'm not even going to bother with it.

Cowchips. Look at what's going on out there. There is enough back-stabbing going on from both sides to make this a bloodbath for conservatives/Republicans, probably like '64, or worse. All I have ever done on these threads is appeal to people's common sense, which sadly seems to be lacking around here, to focus on and fight the real enemy, the one who threatens the existence of the Republic.

FWIW, if Hunter is the nominee, I will support him. A darned sight better choice than Hillary. Once we have our nominee, we'd better support him/her, because if we don't, the ice will be melting right under our feet.

You really think you were better off under Davis?

Yes. Arnold leftist signed legislation Davis vetoed. He accelerated spending growth. He tripled state debt. He's gutting the GOP by refusing Party backing to any down-ticket candidate. He is every bit as corrupt.

He's worse.

OK, then. I hope you voted that way in the recall. In fact, why not start another recall and get Arnold replaced by Gray. Things will be so much better, yes?

You have a weak understanding of history. From Goldwater’s 1966 interview with Lee Edwards:

"The reason I attracted only 39% of the people who voted is because it wasn't Barry Goldwater who was running, it was a caricature of him, built by Governor Scranton and Governor Rockefeller, in the primaries, and then aided and abetted by Romney, Keating, Javits etc, in the general. I was defeated, frankly, before I was nominated. To tell you the truth, we knew this from the polls, in fact, the day of the nomination, only 20% of the people were for me and 80% were for Johnson, and the fact that I almost doubled my appeal and cut his down by the same number is the source of some meager satisfaction. But I hope that the Republican Party never again so destroys its candidate that the candidate has no chance."

They tried to do the same to Reagan. Find me a case where conservatives have been as destructive to the Party nominee.

Another idiot suggesting the Republicans can win by losing. BS. The Republicans laid down and played dead in the last election cycle. Just look at the crappy results in the House and Senate. It is time for Republicans to get off their collective asses and elect solid conservatives.

“Unless Republican candidate Ron Paul —- the only supporter of liberty in the bunch of GOP ne’er do well”

I stopped reading right there. Not going to waste my time on nutbag Libertarians.

When it became apparent that Arnold was going to win, I voted for McClintock and against the recall. Unlike most conservatives, I knew what a talented liar the man really is.

If the social right alienates the GOP in such a diabolical way, like many here want them too, what bargaining power will they ever have in the future?

If Hillary gets into the White House, we will have a generation of SCOTUS that will ruin our lives, we will lose the WOT, lose all of our religious freedoms, and we will be seen as a weak country (ala Jimmy Carter era) again. To some, the end may be worth it, but it is not too me.

As far as I can tell the only people that benefit from another Clinton White House are those that made such a profit off it the first time. Christian Leaders will again have doom and gloom fundraising opportunities, I am pretty sure Judicial Watch will make a comeback, etc. Do not let them fool you, they are looking to line their pockets once again. After all they had such good success during the 1st Clinton administration.

Not at all. I have a very good understanding of history, especially of the '64 election. It was the first one I was politically active in. I know who cost us that election.

That is why I don't want to see a replay of that, no matter who assassinates who on our side. I don't want to see that happen. Once we have our nominee, I don't want the "losing" side to destroy the other, either by character assassination, or by going storming off in a huff taking their ball and going home and thereby handing the election to a socialist 'Rat. Because if we do that and thereby hand the election to Hillary, we're all done. We've got to hang together or Hillary will hang us separately.

Call it "specious wailing" if you want, but I will not stop pointing out the danger we all face here. You people need to realize that the barbarians are at the gates. If we destroy ourselves in the run-up to the election, we're just doing Hillary and the 'Rats' work for them. They're going to take this thing in a cakewalk.

Very good point. Basically they would be making your citizenship, your birthright, mean nothing.

Think of the damage Bill Clinton appointees have done to the courts in recent years. Think of the damage Carter foreign policy have done to the world. Think of the damage FDR's and LBJ's socialist policies have done to our nation.

Hillary with a strong democratic majority in both houses ?

Don't give us ‘California is a liberal state’ until you know what you are talking about.

Are you living in a parallel California in another universe? Some facts about CA that describe the political reality of CA:

Breakdown on the State Legislature: House--47 Dems/33 Reps; Senate--24 Dems/16 Reps.

Congressional delegation: 2 Dem senators; House: 33 Dems, 20 Reps.

Presidential election results: The last time CA went Rep was 1988. Here are the last four races:

1992: Clinton 46%; Bush 32.61%; Perot 20.63%

1996: Clinton 51%; Dole 38.2%; Perot 7%

2000: Gore 53.45%; Bush 41.65%; Ind 3.82%

2004: Kerry 54.31%; Bush 44.36%

In 2006 Feinstein was reelected with 59.4% of the vote; in 2004 Boxer was reelected with 57.7% of the vote.

Demographics: One in every four residents of CA is foreign born, one in every three is Hispanic. Based on census figures, the Mexican-born population of CA increased from 2.4 million in 1990 to 3.9 million in 2000.

According to Bureau of the Census estimates for 2006: Hispanic or Latinos: 13,074,156; non-Hispanic whites: 15,722,701; Total population: 36,457,549.

Those same figures for 2000: Hispanic or Latinos: 10,966,556; non-Hispanic whites: 15,816,790; Total population: 33,871,648.

California is becoming more and more liberal based on election results and demographics. Some of the ballot initiatives you cite are passed because of a coaltion of Anglos and asians and non-Hispanic ethinic groups.

A very good quote from Goldwater. Here is the salient point:

But I hope that the Republican Party never again so destroys its candidate that the candidate has no chance."

That is what I want to avoid this time around. I don't want either side, moderate or conservative, destroying the other. Because all that does is make it easier for those who really oppose us.

They tried to do the same to Reagan. Find me a case where conservatives have been as destructive to the Party nominee.

Conservatives have generally been team players, which is why what seems to be happening in this election cycle breaks my heart. We don't see the same unity that brought us back from the disaster of '64, the depths of the Watergate scandal and the ruinous Carter presidency, and even the closely divided elections of 2000 and 2004, which at least gave us hope (although the results have been mixed) of repairing the utter devastation wreaked by the Clintons. No where did I say I approved of the assassination of Goldwater in '64 by the moderate wing of the party. They were wrong to do that and it cost us big time, a full term of LBJ, the 89th Congress and the disaster of "The Great Society". Once we have our primaries over, we need to be united against the real foes. It's a matter of survival.
