NEW YORK: For the first time in its history, the world famous Empire State Building here will be lit in green from Friday to Sunday in celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
So far the landmark tower is lighted in traditional colours every year only on the occasion of Christmas and the Jewish festival Hannukah. From this year on, lighting on Eid too will become an annual event.
At the end of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous three-day celebration which marks the end of Ramadan. In Islam, the colour green symbolizes a happy occasion.
Soaring 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building was recently named America's most favourite building in the poll conducted by American Institute of Architects.
Why not just put a big white flag on top.
Tom Tancredo had the cojones to say it.
Someone on another thread about this topic... had a great idea. They should have a ‘die-in’... the number of people that died in 911 should surround the Empire State building and lie on the sidewalks for 9 hours 11 minutes.
BTTT
Wasn’t the Empire State Building lit up in green light in the movie “Independence Day”. Just before they blew it up.
This will help make the building easily identifiable for the the next terrorist attack. Thumbs up, New York!
Nice of them to brighten it up and make a better target for Achmed and his pirated 737.
he he he
green to oblivion, not quite a ryhme but close enough
As cowards would.
another NY building attackd by islamofacists!
PC will be the DEATH of us.
I swear it!
“Eid” isn’t that the islamic version of E.D.?
Dhimmitude writ large.
Face the truth dhimmi capitulators, Muslims do NOT fast for Ramadan. They wait until after dark to eat each day. It’s a silly, fake holiday period that fools no one except liberals and the French.
It was red white and blue on July 4, 1976.
Um.
This...makes no sense. More people have died in the name of Jesus Christ than in any other name in recorded history. Yet would anyone here say Christianity is a horrible religion? No. Because it isn’t. It preaches unconditional love and forgiveness. There are Christian extremists, though, who give the religion a bad name - why do you think liberals dislike Christians? It’s because the ones they see on the news are the ones saying that 9/11 was caused by God to punish Jewish homosexuals. The media only shows the extremes of anything, because the public finds the extremes more exciting; sad and irritating, but it’s the truth. Islam is also subject to this tendency. There are Muslims who are insane about their beliefs, who truly believe the Koran orders them to kill those of different faiths. But is this the majority? Are Christians who insist women should not have jobs the majority? The answer is no in both cases. Islam has, at its heart, several wonderful principles, such as the Zakah, which states that all Muslims must give 2.5% of their annual income to charity. I don’t personally agree with lighting the Empire State Building for any religious holiday, as that seems like an indication of one faith being more important than others. But if the owners want to light it up for Ramadan, I say kudos. NYC is a global city, like Paris, London, and LA. And Islam is a very widespread religion worldwide. If they’re going to honour Christians and Jews, why not Muslims?
Nah. It’s “Die” backwards, they’re just trying to be tricky.
