This kid clearly had problems that were exacerbated by his environment.

As to my own experience, read my bio page. I was singled out my junior year of high school as an easy target of a BLACK RACIST principal in a 98% black high school in Jackson, MS.

I was the only white starter on the baseball team. Didn’t help that my coach was an unqualified, pu$$!fied white toady. Maybe I should let it go, but I swear to you if I ever again lay eyes on that guy I’m gonna whip his ass. But I digress.

In the halls of that same high school, I was subjected to taunts like “Y’all got ta get out the way. Y’all WHITE.”

To which I responded with a seven letter, two word retort that began with “f” and ended with “u”.

This is a line I refuse to toe. There is no legitimate race card anymore. I don’t take it - anything from anybody, be it intentionally spreading 5 people abreast and deliberately walking slowly in a thoroughfare in a shopping mall - and daring anyone to say something, or indifferent and horrible customer service at Wal-Mart.

Life’s too short to go through it being an intentional putz to people. And it’s WAAAAY too short to tolerate such behavior in others.

Well,Yudan, you certainly had true heart to attend that school and I think it was rotten the way you were treated by the idiots at that school.
Yet I am real curious if you also had positive experiences. Were you befriended by some male and female black kids who saw beyond the color thing and relted to your predicament?I ask you that because as a white guy teaching at an all black high school in New Orleans,I got probably ten welcoming words for every”can’t no honky teach me nothing”type of ignorance.
I had two friends I spent summers with at Lake Tahoe in the Sixties who went to Oakland high schools when there were some white kids still in these schools. They had a paradoxical attitude. One one hand they would tell”coon”jokes and make fun of the black kids they went to school with.Yet if a kid from one of the all white suburbs refered to”niggers”in his conversation, these two white kids would want to fight because,”you got no right to talk about my friends like that”
Funny world,isn’t it?

Never had problems at the all-black junior high that fed this high school. In fact, I was class favorite in ninth grade. They all admired my moxie. I had plenty of friends of both races/sexes, particularly in junior high. The black girls always pinched me on the ass.

In high school, however, the teachers were a bit more militant. Probably because the kids at that point are really assuming a personal identity, and it made them popular with the students.

Believe it or not,I think the whole experience made you a better person.I never bought into the whole Good guy-bad guy theory of race relations. Some of the white kids I went to school with were cruel little bastards and some of the black kids I had as students in New Orleans were true heroes.
Conversely,I have met blacks who are ruthless amoral predators and whites who are among my greatest inspirations.Maybe one day we will get over the racism on both sides but my pessimistic nature tells me this may never happen.

It’s probably not my call as to whether I am a good person, or better than I was at any given point in time, though I do strive for that. Wiser, on the other hand...of that I have no doubt.

You are absolutely correct that there is no race with a monopoly on people with bad intentions, or just bad people. Or good people. Pigmentation has nothing to do with that, polarized as ever in that regard, though we may be.

Example? I live outside MEMPHIS. The electorate here just sent King Willie Herenton back to City Hall fro a FIFTH term.

Sadly, most Blacks blindly elect and re-elect some of the worst crooks and scoundrels to office.
Again, blacks don’t have a monopoly on this tendency either but you would think that after generation after generation of being stuck in the same Democratic rut that they would want a change.
And,unlike so many others on this board,I don’t think it is necessarily REPUBLICANS they need to switch allegiances to.Maybe a third party that upheld strong moral values and wasn’t in the grip of the globalists and Hollywood OR Wall Street elitists.
Just dreaming, though.Things won’t change in my lifetime.
