Put this in an email and send it to EVERYONE you know. We have to call our Senators and do it quickly. This Bill “has to DIE OUT! We need to KILL THIS BILL!

It’s for our Troops, it’s for our Vets!

And it’s for our Constitution which is under attack!

Hi AuntB;

No, it's not passed the Senate YET!

Just the House!

But the fact it passed the Democratically controlled house is frightening enough!

When I called Boxer and Feinsteins office they admit it IS coming up for a vote, in my distraught stage, I didn't ask WHEN!

But I can tell you it is being "snuck in" without much fan fare. (Why haven't we heard opponents of it either?)

They are taking away our troops Constitutional rights to bear arms!

They can carry arms, kill people to protect this country, but by gosh, when they get home, they will loose all their rights to bear arms upon re-entering their homeland if they seek any kind of help We are all in danger of losing our right to bear arms if this passes. Because these troops have committed no Felonies, yet they will be treated like FELONS!

Thanks for the links too.

We really need to get on the band wagon on this one, fast!

That it passed through the House is a huge slap in the faces of thousands and thousands of Vets already. Enough is enough.

Violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. Gun ownership is a basic right guaranteed by the Constitution and cannot be infringed for reason of disability.

How about calling the NRA and advising them of this bill?

They already know. They supported this atrocity. In fact they sent me a loooonnnnng e-mail "debunking" all the so called myths surrounding this bill. The idea, or so I gather, was to take the wind out of the liberals after Virginia Tech. Know what sickens me the most? I'm one of the folks it might affect. I'm not a combat vet, but I suffered for years with depression. When life was no longer any fun, I sought help at the VA. I made sure that they wouldn't submit my info to the Feds and the VA folks were very supportive. I got help and now I'm fine. Also notes were made in my file stating specifically that at no time was I ever a threat to myself or to others. Now this. It's the first time I've ever regretted my military service.

Whoa... good point!

Are they going to give a gun BACK to a troop who suffered PTSD while on active duty? But was better after R&R?

Great point! Sometimes our troops are changed, sometimes forever. Like my brother. But it doesn’t mean they’d ever harm someone else.

30 some years later, I still don’t have my brother back, not like he was before he served, but he shouldn’t be punished for having served his country, nor should he be striped of his 2nd amendment rights either.

NOR should our brave men and women who are so honorably serving us today!

How do we find out if the NRA had anything to do with this?

Yes, the NRA supports this bill. Not only have they said it many times (for instance, here at their factsheet on HR 2640 and in this article), but the Congressional discussion includes praise of how the Congress is working with the NRA on this bill.

I am a member of the NRA, and I don't support this bill. I called the NRA to talk about it, and the first person that I spoke with was the least knowledgeable individual on firearms issues that I have ever spoke with at any firearms organization (and she had a very odd accent which I would be unsurprised to find was Indian or Pakistani).

A bit frustrated, I called another number and found someone who at least had good knowledge of firearms issues. He said that if the NRA thought that any bad items might be attached to the bill that they would then withdraw their support. (A risible statement in my opinion since by that point I think that the bill would be unstoppable.)

The community is definitely split. Clayton Cramer supports HR 2640.

PTSD was mostly shoved on the Nam vets by the lousy left and the MSM by their name calling. It aroused a guilt among us that was totally uncalled for.

Every man that has been in combat has had bad dreams but, eventually they go away. This is a sham and a direct slap in the face to the Vets that fought for this nation. To tell me I can't have the basic right that I fought for is....illegal. If GWB doesn't veto this POS then haul it in front of the SCOTUS. There's no way that this is constitutional.

Most of us vets with PTSD are suicidal, not homicidal.

When the snipers were shooting it out around DC. They kept looking looking for one of us. I said right up front “We don’t travel in pairs” Folks were shocked when it was a pair of jihadi’s.

Looks like a blatent gun-grab to me. To think of how many Veterans sought help from their Congressmen/women to obtain benefits from nightmares and related PTSD symptoms, and then they would pass something like this. What are they thinking?

"If someone is so fearful that they are going to start using their weapons to protect their rights, it makes me very nervous that these people have weapons at all." — Rep. Henry Waxman

Yeah, Henry, I'll bet somebody, like a military veteran, with training and combat experience protecting their rights makes you even more nervous that they have weapons at all!

Looks like the plan is to disarm those folks first.

Interesting that all it takes is a psychiatrist giving their 'expert' opinion that someone is a danger to himself and others. Let's see - liberal judges, liberal lawyers, liberal psychiatrists. How many of those do you think don't already consider patriotic Americans to be nutcases, and a danger to liberals?

And, they may have names on the list that shouldn't be there, but you are still free to spend a lot of time and effort to get you name expunged. Don't know if you'll be successful, but they'll still let you try.

Can Soviet style gulags, "correction camps", be far behind?

I know that sounds "nutty", but how many Americans thought legislation like this would be considered, much less passed, by our gov't representatives today, or ever?

There are some NRA members on here that are PO’ed that others of us in the gun community aren’t towing the NRA line that this is a good bill. All they do is put our organizations down for bucking the NRA on this. If we hadn’t, a lot of people wouldn’t have found out how absolutely disastrous this bill really is.

I never liked the NICS system, and I think this "improvement" is not likely to be anything of the sort.

I would like instead to see the entire 1968 GCA struck down as an unconscionable infringement of the Second Amendment. I think that truly would be the greatest day for American liberty since the founding of the Republic.

Guys and Gals go out and serve their country to preserve freedom, and the country takes away their freedom one they have served. All this has a veiled meaning. .I know if I were considering military service I would take in to consideration that my Civil Rights could be in jeopardy if I did join. My basic opinion is that a government that disarms its veterans is not worth serving and fighting for.

If the bill becomes law it will be a foot in the door to disarm vets and any one else the the bureaucracy wants neutralized.

Exactly. Anytime I’ve ever heard about somebody going nuts and shooting up the neighborhood they were non-vets who had no sense and no self esteem.

You have to be pretty stable to do the things that we did back then. Yeah, coming back to a country that took a big greasy dump on us was a bitch. If we hadn’t had problems it would be unusual.

We didn’t become idiots or lunatics because we wore the uniform.

On the other hand, it seems that far too often when we send men and women to kongress they turn into self-centered toadys and lickspittles.

The stuff that is in this bill will eventually come back to bite us on the butt... regardless what the short term goal is.

God Bless you and thank you for your service. We HAVE to fight this fight for every hero who has ever served. Every person like you!

Just seeing you in your uniform brings so much emotion into it again for me. This is what it’s all about. We can’t let this happen, we just can’t.

I called all the men I worked on “My boys”. As you know, there is a special bond with the men and women you serve with.

This summer my husband and I etched some of our friends names off the wall in DC. Before we went to the wall, we went to the Vietnam Woman's Memorial to see the monument there.

I got to walk around the Womens monument for the first time with a female veteran I served with. My husband and grandson were there too.

It was emotional to say the least.

While there, a young tour guide had a group of about 80 there telling them what the monument stood for. When it was erected, etc. He was just saying “So, lets move on...” when I happened by.

He’d left out an important part so I asked him “How many nurses died in Nam?”

He said “Eight nurses died in country”.

I thanked him and proceeded to continue walking around the monument. Then a voice rang out “Did you serve during Vietnam?”

I said “Yes, I did, and so did my friend over there”.

We were swarmed by all 80 people in the tour. I don’t know where the tour guide went, and never saw him again.

A couple men suggested the women have their pictures taken with us. They were middle aged and teenage women. They were actually “moved” to be with us. It was so moving to be appreciated that way.

I’m on a cane because of my disability and I get sick. So I had to actually sit down. The young women wanted to touch me, and they were saying how cool it was to be with us. They cried...

The same thing was happening to my friend. It was emotional and filled us with such pride. Especially to see young women being so proud of other women who served.

After pictures were over, they held us, and thanked us for our service. I pointed out my husbands service too.

The men came over and hugged us and thanked us too.

Then we went over to the wall, and found our friends to etch their names. We do that every time there is a traveling wall, and this was the first time we’d done it on the real wall.

We love our friends who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice. We love our friends who served and came home mixed up. We love our friends in arms who served beside us, and are still in contact with so many of them.

Oddly enough, when you meet a Marine, Sailor, Troop from any branch, there just seems to be an instant bond. We know what we’ve been through. We are brothers and sisters.

That’s why we have to help them fight a battle like this one.

We can’t let them be treated like criminals, felons, when all they’ve done is volunteered to fight all enemies foreign and domestic.

The Vietnam Vets are the perfect statistic to show no rampant shooting spree’s have happened because of PTSD. They’ve needed help, and had to fight for it. But they didn’t need insult to injury which is what this bill will do!

How many won’t seek help with a bill like this. And then, how many will slip the surly bonds of sanity because they couldn’t get help, or go back to a job in law enforcement?

How many active duty won’t be able to continue in the military because they can’t carry a gun anymore, because they started to suffer PTSD, but could have been rehabilitated?

This is so insane.

God protect our awesome troops!

We’re so proud of them. We stop them and tell them they are the best of the best. And ask them to thank their families too! And that includes their Mom’s and Dad’s! Grandma and Grandpa’s. Everyone who’s loving them and worrying about them! Because they’re serving too!

So this will be a BIG SLAP in their faces too.

Lets pray to the Father that we can get a call in going to get the message out that we won’t stand for this one, not at all!

Thanks, and again, God protect them, and God Bless! Because getting this overturned will be impossible!

Remember, the LINK to all the senators Wash DC phone numbers is in the first article. PLEASE CALL... and PLEASE PASS THIS AROUND TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!!!

It’s heartbreaking, and it’s being done behind their backs when they can’t do anything about it!

We really need to help them out, all of us who served before, and everyone who give a hoot!

Who said “it’s a good thing”.

Because my next mission will be to tear down the NRA!

Since Charleston Heston hasn’t been able to run it, it’s been run over by a bunch of liberal policy wonks!

We’ve had guns in this house and raised 5 boys. Not once did any of them touch them. You teach them respect for them, and how to use them. They learn to fear them, because to not to, to have a bravado about them, gets people killed.

I was raised around guns my whole life, as were all my cousins. Not one person ever had a hunting accident. Because there was always an adult with the child. Even until they became 19.

They took safety courses, and knew you did it right or paid a price. Discipline was used if you didn’t. Good ole fashioned discipline. No one was beaten, but they knew it might be used on them if they did something dangerous, or disrespectful.

You know what happened? They respected the adults, listened to them, and had a great time. All the while learning common sense.

The same lessons served them well in school too.

You didn’t talk back to a teacher, you were there to learn.

They all had great grades, and our little grandson has straight “A”s in school now. He’s on his way to be an Eagle Scout like his grandfather before him too. And his older cousin!

So just let the NRA, who used to make sense and advocate for our second amendment try to say something stupid about this bill, HR 2640, section 102 (1)©(iv). They’ve been smoking whacky tobaccy if they think this one should pass.

We know at least 300 people who will resign from their organization. It helps to have been an Aviation Battalion Commanders wife. We loved those people, and have stayed in tough with them. Then there’s flying with another large organization for many many years. MANY of them hunters and NRA members too.

We know people all over the United States, and then they know people all over the United States.

I’m NOT sitting idle on this one, not at all!

Not after seeing how they snuck the House vote in on it like a thief in the night! Time to counter attack, FAST!~~

Thanks Squantos!!!!!

People who’ve served, multiple times no less, won’t even be able to seek help because of what could come next! If we want to see a mess, wait until that all hits the fans!

Families torn apart, children terrorized because Mommy or Daddy won’t go get help, help that could help them be ok and be a viable person in society and more importantly, in their family! Vietnam has taught us that! If we didn’t give em enough statistics from that war, I don’t know what these bozo’s need!

We sure didn’t see Vietnam Vets running down the street shooting people and themselves. And if this was going to be a problem, WE WOULD HAVE SEEN IT!

The science project is over. Over 30 years of research is enough! Their theory didn’t pan out.. now they need to back off our troops!

And try instead, giving them a hero’s welcome home!

That’s what they need, that’s whats wrong!

FRiggin idiots!!!!!!!!!!

You’re absolutely right, we already have the stats. They’ve been there since our WWII, Korea and Vietnam troops got home. We’ve had no increase in Vets doing shooting spree’s.

Just kids who have no discipline at home or school. Liberals worried about little Johnnie’s psyhic.

The travesty of this (besides being treated as criminals/FELONS who lose their right to bear arms because they committed a crime against society) is that our men and women won’t go in for much needed help if they are “stuck”.

Already, it takes up to 30 years in some cases to get help for PTSD. Now this!

It’s a HUGE slap in the face for those who served this country with honor. Some giving limb, or an eye. Some just their minds.

Some, sometimes taking their lives because the help doesn’t come fast enough.

But when it’s compared to living in the big cities, the crime rates of Gangs, it’s NOTHING!

And many, most live their lives in peace, but in a private agony. Never becomeing the person they were before they left for war.

I just lost my cousin Danny. A gorgeous man. He could have been a model. The sweetest man you’d ever want to know. No gun involved. Alcohol...a lot of the men and women self medicate.

My brother has PTSD too. The men I’ve known, and we’ve talked to quite a few over the years, ...they wouldn’t hurt a flea... they just want to understand what’s wrong with them and how to become normal again.

And now, now we are going to say “You are so NOT NORMAL, that we cannot allow you to bear arms.”

It will be interesting when it passes. Because a TON of troops will not be able to bear arms and return to theatre, be it in Afghanistan or Iraq or elswhere. Even on the streets of the United STates!

The Liberal Congress is trying to destroy us from within...

Some of “these guys” didn’t have jobs. If they did, keeping them were sporatic at best. So using the VA system was there ONLY choice to get help. Some of the psychiatrists were total idiots! Telling my brother he just needed to get off his lazy *ss and go to work. Well, I can assure you, that wasn’t the problem!

I’ve watched my brother work. He worked hard. But it was at jobs that didn’t fit his academic achievements from earlier days at school. He left being one person and came back another. NEVER EVER smiling or laughing like he used too. A recluse, depressed. Having to grow all his food for his kids and wife. A Godly man, who took care of his inlaws, and our folks too.

But his “happiness, the spark of life” he was always known for, was gone. He didn’t dance anymore...

He was affected by what he endured, where my husband who helped in the MASH unit helping the Doc’s and nurses amputating arms and legs, who when he went out on a medicvac mission had bulletts hit patients as they medivaced them out and heard their screams, and had blood flying all around the cockpit. He came home just fine. Why one person is affected one way, and another differently is a matter of how the brain processes these images, these life experiences. But they are real, oh how they are real!

And we know that we haven’t had Vets running up and down the street shooting people. If ever there was a war to do stats about, it would be the Vietnam war. Thanks in large part to the reception we all got upon coming home. Add that to war, and put GUILT on what you went through and we’re lucky as a nation things didn’t go terribly wrong once they came home!

The VA was inept at helping our troops. I pray to God they are helping them now.

But RIGHT NOW they are about to loose their right to bear arms like they are criminals, like they are FELONS!

Every decent citizen needs to help them. They’ve been helping us, it’s the least we can do.

Please call your Senators, then pass around the letter with the link for the Senators Wash. DC phone numbers. We can’t let them down when there busy fighting an enemy that want’s us dead, and don’t even know this is happening!

FRegards

You got it! It’s a really bad message. It could even be a sorry attempt at reinstating the draft by the Dems.

If people are exhausted and starting to complain about PTSD, then this might be a way to change things.

Hey, just reinstate the draft! We wouldn’t have so much PTSD! Get it?

The liberals have always wanted Gun Control. This is a foot in the door. Next it will be any person whose taken ADHD medicines are unfit to bear arms. I just read that piece too.

We have to stop this one now! First of all, our troops deserve better.

Second, they are trying to change our Constitution.

NO WAY!

But thirdly, it makes me sick that our troops must even get wind of it, considering what they’ve been going through.

That even ONE troops might hesitate to get help if they need it, is WRONG!!!!

That’s why this is SO DISGUSTING!

The Dems have NO SHAME! NONE!

What a bunch of CROCK!!!

I do NOT trust these people as far as I can throw them. I worked in medicine for the Government, and my husband just retired out of the Government. Does anyone have any idea how often they get it wrong?

There are so many loopholes in what I just read that I would NEVER trust our troops futures to this stuff!

They have our Vets medical records, and in some cases (maybe even ALL of them, because they are not definitive) it might take 15 years to get their guns back!

WHAT HAPPENED TO FAMILIES TAKING AWAY WEAPONS IF THEY THINK THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM? IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!

NOPE... I’m NOT buying one piece of this crap!

And, they didn’t do a RECORDED vote because no one asked for it!

BULDERDASH!

AND I just fell off a turnip truck! Good grief! How STUPID do they really think we all are?

Then we simply must demand a recount, and we want it "recorded"!!! We ALL need to get a CLUE! Dear Lord help us all if we collectively become this naive!

Tremendous post. The love, respect, and gratitude, that y’all received at The Wall is demonstrative, and representative, of how so many of us feel about all of you who have served and do serve, and your loved ones.

God bless each and every one of you, and God help all of us to know and do all that we can to preserve the freedoms you have sacrificed so much to protect.

You're absolutely right. A bill like this will silence troops and Vets who need help. And they still have a right to the 2nd Amendment. Unless they've committed a Felon, it should never be taken away from them.

If this bill passes, too many to count won't go in for help. I doubt my brother will continue getting help. Though the fact he already has, has probably doomed him if this bill goes through.

Deepest sympathy for your losses. Remember, we're only human, and you tried your best. Forgive yourself. You have to! Honor your friends by remembering that the day they passed was only ONE DAY in their lives. Don't let it be the sum of all you had with them, or all the good times they had with others. I know it had to be horribly traumatic, but there was more... so much more. Let their memories be good ones.

And remember, the enemy wants you to be haunted by your brothers losses. Don't let them continue to win by blaming yourself for what happened. You were in very difficult circumstances. Breaking radio silence could have very well brought the enemy to you. So, please, forgive yourself. Be at peace with this. And know that they are in heaven, not in pain. You'll see them again one day. But DO NOT give these evil people any more power over you! They are NOTHING!! Get it? Do Not allow them to cause pain in your heart and in your mind, they do not deserve one more piece of space in your life. They took enough that fateful night. Don't let them have anymore!

Read our bio's here at FR. We've known war... we support you and we'll be praying for you. Replace what happened that day, with happier memories of your brothers in arms. And yes, it is PTSD. And with time it will heal. Use your mind and heart to heal it. Time heals things. When bad memories come in, replace it with a good one of that person. They'd want it that way.

Utmost respect for your service. Thank you!

We understand the enemy you're fighting. They've been getting ready since the 1300's and they have no plans to stop until either ALL OF US convert, or they kill ALL OF us. World dominance. A world that is totally Islamic.

I'll leave you with a favorite quote of ours and some or our brothers and sisters in arms:

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

~~ John Stuart Mill ~~

John Chapter 15 vs. 13;

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

We're out here fighting for you regarding the PTSD & Gun situation. Your fellow brothers and sisters in arms care.

God Bless!

VH&W

How about calling the NRA and advising them of this bill?

They've been dinning me for a couple of months about it. In support of it. Even if it's everything they say, and I suppose it is, the "dangerous" parts are so bad that it should be round filed, not passed by "The Greatest Deliberative Body in the World", but it won't be, it'll be passed, and President Bush will sign it.
