Jews defending Coulter
The Modern Conservative ^ | 12 Oct 2007 | Christopher Cook

Hearing Dennis Prager defend Ann Coulter on his radio show today was not entirely unexpected, given Dennis's overall clarity of thought and intellectual honesty. I think he made a very good argument on her behalf. Her statement was not thought through for possible impact. (What does she ever say that is?) It was counter-productive, and the overall result is, whatever she meant to say, a net-negative for a bunch of issues we conservatives care about. But, as Prager astutely pointed out, her statement certainly wasn't what it's being made out to be.

Prager's defense was correct and pleasing to hear, but it was also to be expected from him. What I more enjoyed was when I received an email from a friend and colleague, a Jewish woman who echoed Prager's points and his defense of Coulter. Here is that email, reprinted with permission:

Dennis Prager on Ann Coulter's Remark on the "Perfection of Jews"

Prager said something very smart about this situation during his morning show today. He stated that there was nothing anti-Semitic about wishing that Jews would become Christians. We all wish that people would come around to our points of view on most everything. This is human nature. We all hold our beliefs and values to be ideal and want others to agree and validate our positions. Dennis pointed out that much of the secular Left wants everyone to abandon religion and become part of the secular Left and that no one in the media or on the Left seems to have a problem with this. The secular Left even goes to the level of demeaning and deriding religious people as intellectually inferior and less worldly. Prager mentioned as another example that, although Jews don't proselytize, most Jews want everyone to be ethical monotheists or adhere to a belief in one G-d under a common set of ethical precepts. Basically, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with feeling your views are superior and wanting other people to believe as you do as long as you aren't using violence or being coercive in some way. (Exactly what the Islamists are trying to do).

Also, Prager pointedly remarked that the Left is focusing on this as a 'virulently anti-Semitic' remark while it ignores real anti-Semitism a la Carter, Mearsheimer and Walt, Ahmadinejad, etc. and how dangerous this is for Jews. To focus on an innocuous comment, which is essentially a wish, at the current level of hysteria, minimizes and obfuscates genuine expressions of Jew hatred.

Isn’t that the truth! I saw James Carville discussing this w/ Blitzer. Carville went off on Coulter’s comment as if she had blown up a Synagogue.

I haven’t seen Carville get upset, not even one time about those who actually physically desecrate or diminish the ‘Christian’ faith.

And...I always enjoy Carville...he’s doesn’t radiate the hate that Paul Begala does. Begala is scary!

Debbie Schlussel is a good friend of Ann Coulter. She has already said Ann is a far better champion of Jews than the atheist Jew George Soros.

It's noteworthy that the fine gentlemen discussing becoming "perfected" in the Bible were all Jewish.

Getting angry over someone saying what is essentially nothing other than a quote from the Bible has almost always been taken as evidence of a deepseated and virulent form of anti-semitic attitude.

Makes me think Carville was probably thinking back to the days when he actually was blowing up synagogues (or at least hoping the big boys would let him).

That's what was getting him excited.

Fur Shur, this guy has never read any religious texts, whether Christian or Jewish, or he'd encountered the "perfected" standard before.

I’m Jewish too, and although not a big Ann fan anymore I was not the least bit offended by her comments.

Was more offended by Donny Deutsch and his need to be all indignant over Ann’s commitment to her Christian beliefs.

Deutsch is the one to blow this way out of proportion. His line of questioning was straight out of the Kremlin - USA BAshing 101...

His tack started with the typical “How dare you define what an American is”

PS - this guy is so crooked that they’ll have to screw him into the ground when he dies. How much is he getting paid to give free publicity to the lamest ideas I have ever seen.

Exactly the point. I doubt any practicing Jew would have any problem with her point. It only proves that she is a person of Faith and really opens the dialogue into some deeper areas.

Just so that you don't think you're alone in suffering a severe mutation of the 'offended gene', I, a Catholic, am never offended when Mormons, Adventists or Jehovah's Witnesses wander up my driveway on a mission.

Ann Coulter is clearly not familiar with Rav Shaul's letter to the Messianic believers in Rome.

Very specifically: Romans 11 where he discusses who is grafted into whom.

NAsbU Romans 11:17 But if some of the branches were broken off,
and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them
and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,

NAsbU Romans 11:19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off
so that I might be grafted in."
Paul warns against the pride of a Gentile follower of Yah'shua.

NAsbU Romans 11:22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God;
to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness,
if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

NAsbU Romans 11:23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief,
will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
A Jew who comes to know the Jewish Messiah for their salvation
does not become a Christian,
They become a "called out one", a member of the Ekklesia.
They become a Messianic Jew.

The L-rd's name ( Shem ) is not je-zeus; it is Yah'shua ( YHvH is my salvation )

Which is why you must call on His Name for salvation.

shalom b'shem Yah'shua

I got this from LGF, who got it from Live Leak. It’s the entire segment of the interview in question, and Anne is very clear about her meaning. Danny is a moron. A hyper-sensitive moron.

And the nattering nabobs are wrong to describe her comment as anti-Semitic. If Ann were truly anti-Semitic, she would not want Jews to become Christians but rather would want nothing to do with them.

I’m a Jew and her comments didn’t offend me.

On the other hand, her defense of ‘creationism’ does make Republicans look like idiots.

I just can’t believe she fell for the trap laid by Donny Douche. She’s smarter than that.
