In his January decision dealing with the Goldwater Bombing Range, a military training ground, Chertoff declared that the high number of people entering the country illegally through that stretch of the desert create an immediate need to build not just fencing but also vehicle barriers, towers, sensors and cameras.

Somehow I think there is a simpler and more cost-effective solution to illegal immigration at this particular location that is somehow escaping us all...

This is one of many examples of how the very existence of enviormental impact surveys serve one sole purpose: left wing political spears.

You are right on target this this comment.

All of these enviro-regs are just tools in the toolbox of the Litigious Left. They use them to file suit to stop what they want to stop for their own selfish reasons, but cannot stop through the political process. It hands them a lever that they can use to always get their way.

If we wanted to learn from their example, the Minutemen should file suit to prevent the environmental degradation that comes along with unrestricted border migration.

“Chertoff can do the same for the same reason: national security trumps one lefty judge”

Chertoff has to have the will to do so.

Remeber what Andrew Jackson said when the court ruled in a way he did not like; “Let them enforce the law”

That’s a great way to end up with a dictatorship.

Good! I hope he does thumb his nose at the court order.

These are the same groups that tried to prevent the expansion of the training area at Ft. Irwin, and a judge ruled in October or maybe November of 2001 that national security trumps all this rubbish that these screeching tree hugging harpies whine about.

“The law says that Chertoff can exempted any of the laws that will stop him from building the fence. This is not “above the law”. It is the law.”

But you forget that the liberal lapdog media will spin it to spoon feed it to the clueless masses.

The democrats through their media lapdogs have turned at least half of this country into a bunch of knee-knockers who have a combined IQ equal to that of a bowl of dog snot.

The restraining order gives two environmental groups time to convince Judge Ellen Huvelle that plans for vehicle barriers in the river's floodway and washes leading into it will cause erosion and sedimentation that will harm the environment and affect species dependent on the river.

San Pedro "River" at the border

We're talking here about vehicle barriers on a sandbed that sometimes has a few inches of water wandering across it, sometimes not.

It's a river only by Arizona standards. And, even then, not by much.

Judge Huvelle might benefit from actually visiting the site, so she can see for herself that the environmentalists are lying to her.
