I forget which candidate got quite a laugh in the last debate when he said if Hillarycare went into effect here, then Canadians would have nowhere to go for medical treatment.

Americans healthcare services are already tiered. Most folks have health insurance and make the most of it. If you have insurance and want a Doctor who will KNOW you; pay up an additional annual fee of about $1,500 for a “concierge” service like MDVIP. Doctors in this type practice will see you any time without the BS.
There are certainly higher thresholds and frankly they are worth every penny.

The Republicans are in favor of nationalized health care - it will relieve their client big business of the ever burdensome health care coverage they've been providing employees and retirees with.
So you have dimocraps in love with socialism paired with pubbies looking to benefit their clients. A win-win for the political class.

Surely that can't be the reason I met plenty of ex-pat Canadian-trained
doctors at UCLA and USC.
Everyone knows all doctors are about caring. Not filthy lucre.

And as cynical as I am, I do admit a fair number of physicians
are really smart people doing a really tough job for just reasonable pay.
I owe my life to some of those MDs.
And some of my needless suffering to their slow-witted twins.
