Embattled Northern California Congressman John Doolittle, fresh from attacks on Afghan & Iraq veteran Major Eric Egland (two attacks one here, and the other here) has now launched on Deborah Johns, military mom and activist for the troops.
Doolittle is under intense pressure from an FBI investigation into allegations surrounding his fund-raising, as well as his own party base in the California 4th District just outside Sacramento. His party base is infuriated because Doolittle is a chronic feeder at the Washington pork trough, second only to corrupt congressman John Murtha of Pennsylvania, yet the district has little to show for his efforts.
Currently anti-US democrat (I know, that is redundant) Charlie Brown (no, really, that is his name) who ran against Doolittle in 06 is some twenty-points ahead of Doolittle in the republican safe district. Brown lost to Doolittle by a mere three points last time out, and that is attributed by observers to his being outed as a personal friend and political ally of Cindy Sheehan....
...What started as a question to an ally of Doolittles, in a rural Republican Womens Club resulted in an angry and threatening sounding telephone call from Doolitles communications director Gordon J. Hinkle. Hinkle, leaving his comments on Johns answering machine, lashed into her for misrepresenting the congressman and portraying him in an incorrect light with her question.
Hinkles message to Johns is that in order to exercise her First Amendment Right to ask a question, of a local official connected to the congressman, that she first clear her words with Doolittles office. Doolittles message to Johns is that the mother of a three-tour veteran does not have the right to speak without permission....

Ping for our friend Deborah, she needs our support right now and is being used as the target in a political posturing effort.
Is he a relative of Jimmy Doolittle?
here is his e-mail......use 95746 for the zip code.....123 main street and Granite Bay, CA ought to work just fine.....also the toll-free 800 number is below (busy signal right now)

Doolittle has signed his defeat.IMO.
While there has been a growing influx of Liberals into the Kalifornia foothills and the registered Repub lican %% is dropping as a whole, I don’t think they will stand still for this kind of bullying.
Don’t know who Gordon Hinkle is, but if he thinks I have to clear ANY of MY comments on ANY politician with the office before I speak, he is sorely mistaken.
If I remember correctly, Doolittle is the idiot who keeps wanting to build the Auburn Dam where there is a major fault line. I can just imagine a 680 foot high dam that backs up 35 miles of the American River and then lets loose when there is a quake. Disastor isn’t enough of a word.
Deborah Johns is a fantastic Person
This Doolittle POS should have someone push his teeth in
Double ping!
HA HA HA!.....I did a little digging and found an example of the direct e-mail addy to house (and prob senate) direct emails........so I sent one......and it DIDN’T come back, so fire away........

Looks like some of the politicians in Northern California need to look to the state just North of them. I have been told the governor of Oregon has ATTENDED the funeral of every service member killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. I do know that when SPC Dan Leckel, US Army, was killed on 25 Jul 07, the governor came to the tiny community of Glendale in Southern Oregon to the school gym and paid his respect. It’s a shame some of the ‘No-Nothings’ of NOCA can’t find time to do the same thing.
CONGRESSIONAL E-MAIL ADDRESSES
110th Congress
2007-2008
Most Members of Congress consider e-mail for constituents only.
Why are so many of these webmail rather than email?
http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/congress/conemail.txt
This webpage contains a variety of examples of how to send them e-mail direct, bypassing the constituent “qualification” on their websites.....a clever person can easily figure out how to send them a direct e-mail after spending a few minutes here.
Irate Email sent, proper but irate
Call me old fashioned but an A$$hole like this does not verbally assault a lady in my presence.
Both times I have met and talked Deborah Johns she was the epitome of the definition of a Lady.
Both times I have met and talked Deborah Johns she was the epitome of the definition of a Lady.
Yes, that is evident every time I’ve seen her on the tube, as well. FWIW, my email said “knock of the harassment of this lady”

Thanks for the ping!
Typical fascist liberal.
Oh yeah, didn't Charlie Chaplin play him in The Great Dictator?
The Doolittle bots will soon be here to tell us how he’s being crucified like our Lord & Savior...
I’m sorry but Doolittle was my Congressman for many years and this story just doesn’t jive with the man I know. I think there is more to this than just the BDM version.
Ignorance runs rampant around here.
Thanks for the concern. It seems his allegiance and priorities may have shifted seriously towards the Left.
Sounds like some FBI investigations are going on about him as well.
If you know him personally, please contact him directly and find out why he apparently is not doing anything, either private or public, to support the troops and those who stand with them.
I’ll second that one!!
We got to meet Deborah Johns, Debbie Lee, and alot of the others from Move America Forward earlier this fall at a Pro-Troop Rally in Cedar Rapids, IA.....she gave a passionate speech and rallied up the crowd.
She is a proud military mom and I think this ‘stuffed shirt’ politician needs to be reminded that he works for the people and not the other way around!!!!
One mother wasn't getting any responses from the the government or her own Congressman when she was informed that her son had been in a vehicle accident but no further info. She called Doolittle's office in Granite Bay and he and his staff got right to work and got info for this mother. He found her son was being sent to Germany for his very serious injuries. I know this because I know the mother.
I don't understand why or how this "doesn't support the troops" rumor got started but nothing could be further from the truth. Sort of like how Rush is supposed to be against the troops. The opposition will stop at nothing, remember.
Did you listen to the Audio linked in this thread you posted? Hinkle very clearly states that they ARE doing things in support of the fallen soldiers, contrary to Johns statement. And he didn't ask anyone to "clear" anything through his office as Mark Williams purports, nor did he "attack" anyone. He was totally business like and polite, IMO. And for this, people are calling Doolittle a fascist???? Folks are going off the deepend here!
This is a dirty campaign, IMO, led by Eric Egland, a man who only moved in the district last year and wasn't even a Republican until about the same time.
The FBI is still investigating the Abramoff stuff and has never said Doolittle is a target or "under investigation," no matter how many people keep repeating those words. Some folks want to convict without evidence of wrongdoing--I haven't seen any yet.
It seems that John Doolittle was supportive of our troops and military—in the past. Deborah Johns and talk show host Mark Williams supported Doolittle at that time.
But...please listen to the audio link in post 14 about his apparent recent change of support. Sounds like Doolittle is now making a political sacrifice of Deborah Johns to garner more anti-war voter support.
Apparently, it's his supporters that don't know him, or are in obvious major-league denial. I'm trying to figure out what part of "he's toast" do you guys fail to comprehend ? Either tell him he needs to do the right thing and step down or you guys can get the hell out of the way so we can nominate a Republican who isn't chin deep in indictments and investigations.
"Ignorance runs rampant around here."
That's for DAMN sure.
I know Mark Williams wants Doolittle out and has since before the last election. I don’t trust Mark Williams or what he has to say at all. If you are basing all this on his opinion, remember he was fired from his last radio job in Sac. for a reason.
I listened to the audio several times. It is one thing to say one is supportive—remember the Moonbats say that!
If Congressman Doolittle is supportive of the troops and not just saying so, exactly how is that manifested?
Indeed, there are many moving parts and much here—much is ultimately at stake, including the Congressman’s seat in the next election.
It would be interesting to see if there are any changes in his voting trends over the years, regarding spending and other legislation.
Did you listen to the Audio? Johns statements were directly in conflict with those of Hinkle. Johns and Williams are both supporting Egland. Hinkle did not attack anyone, nor did he make the demands that Williams says he did. Listen to it yourself! Do you care about the truth?
Do you care that there have been NO charges against Doolittle? Do you care that the FBI has never even said that Doolittle is under investigation? Do you care that he has served his district honorably for many years?
Or, will you just jump on the dirty-campaign smear job and lynch the man on false allegations because it happens to fit YOUR desire that someone else run in this district?
And you will get behind a guy who just waltzed in the district and decided to become a Republican a year ago?
This whole thing stinks!
Here's an interesting one. Although I'm loathe to cite Wikipedia, this paragraph shows that not only in addition to the cited ethics problems, his voting record on spending has gone off to bye-bye land: "In August 2007, former Placer County Republican Party chairman Ken Campbell, a longtime financial backer of Doolittle, said he was withdrawing his support. Campbell cited a recent Club for Growth report on votes in 2007 on spending bills, where Doolittle scored 2 percent, compared to the Republican average of 43 percent." If his defenders can "excuse" this, let's see them do it.
Doolittle is no moonbat.
Williams says Doolittle is “lashing out” at Johns. Did you hear his phone message? He didn’t lash out, nor did he care if she “asked a question” about Doolittle, but did challenge her about false statements about his actions. Williams is a propaganist and a liar, based the audio he includes in that very link.
How is it manifested? Hinkle: “We do respond to all families... a very strict protocol... a condolence letter... a flag at the Capitol... and usually a personal visit.”
Doolittle has been putting up with this investigation for three years. He has challenged the DOJ to either charge him with something, or clear him. Instead, they drag it out and have found NOTHING to charge him with. It’s insane!
Thanks for the post. I want to know the truth. If there is more to the story, let the truth be told and let the chips fall where they may.
One common crisis-management tactic is to try to get all complaints coming in to you and your staff for gatekeeping, instead of to third parties who might pass them along to others.
One way to end this discussion is for the Congressman to show his ardent public support, recent and continuing. Apparently that’s a big part of the issue.
And on another note, I’ll say that recent Republican converts are nice, but not immediately suitable for important public office.
The Club for Growth “report” tallies up the bogus Flake Amendments. While named after Rep. Jeff Flake, I think the title can also mean Flaky. These are tactics not to pass serious legislation but to bring attention to various items in appropriations bills. This is NOT the way to eliminate pork; it is just a headline grabbing attention-getter that never get any number of serious votes and waste hours and hours of time in Congress by bringing them up at the 11th hour in front of the full congress during each of the major appropriations bills. They are a joke! I might add that Flake ended up looking like a total idiot on most of them for not having done ANY homework on the subject matter of his own proposed amendments. And YES, I went through the congressional record for each and every one of his stupid bills. It was embarrassing to see a supposed conservative Congressman playing these childish games.
Reminder for in the morning.
It’s just everybody else’s fault except Doolittle’s, and if by an unfortunate chance he wins renomination and loses by the large margin for which he will in the general, you guys will still be blaming everybody else. As I already told you, I have no primary candidate I’m rooting for, I just want to make sure the person is a Conservative and that it is NOT John Taylor Doolittle.
And, btw, I want Flake gone, too. He’s an open borders squish, and they all have my complete enmity.
Why don’t you EVER respond directly to what I post?
I asked some very specific questions. I’d be interested in a response to those.
Because there is nothing more to add. You guys can’t seem to grasp the man WILL lose us this district if he is the nominee next year. He is the single most endangered and embattled GOP House incumbent in the United States. We cannot afford to lose a single seat in the House next year. Not one. Not in a solid Republican district like this one. That is all that matters here. You want to fight a battle that’s already been decided. It’s pointless. Let’s get behind a Conservative Republican who can win this seat, otherwise you can warm up by practicing “Congressman Charlie Brown” if you insist on keeping up with this nonsense.
Scrutiny Dampens Doolittle's Fundraising
By ERICA WERNER
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - GOP Rep. John Doolittle of California, under federal investigation in a Capitol Hill lobbying scandal, is lagging behind Republican and Democratic challengers in fundraising amid growing GOP concerns about whether he can win re-election.
The nine-term conservative raised just over $50,000 during the third quarter of this year, significantly less than GOP newcomer Eric Egland, who reported nearly $80,000 in donations.
Democrat Charlie Brown outdid them both, raising $212,000 in the quarter.
Brown came close to beating Doolittle last year even though Doolittle's rural Northern California district is among the most conservative in the state. Doolittle is facing growing political pressure from Republican activists in California and Washington who increasingly fear that next year, he would not survive.
"Party leaders will see this as greater evidence that John Doolittle should just announce he is not running for re-election," said Jeff Flint, a GOP strategist who runs a political blog in the district. "The Republican Party would have to spend millions to save what should be a safe seat."
Doolittle has denied any wrongdoing in his ties to jailed GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff, but after FBI agents raided his home in April he gave up his seat on the powerful Appropriations Committee.
Last month, Doolittle and six of his current and former staffers were served with subpoenas by a federal grand jury in Washington investigating those connections, which include payments Abramoff made to Doolittle's wife, Julie, to plan a fundraiser that ended up getting canceled.
Doolittle retains committed supporters in his district. The Republican central committees in two counties have passed resolutions urging him to seek re-election. But in Washington, party leaders have passed up opportunities to speak up for him.
Doolittle campaign consultant Richard Temple acknowledged that GOP leaders are concerned but said the incumbent hasn't been asked to step aside.
"If they were going to do that, it's too early. John deserves his chance to put himself in position to win," Temple said. He said Doolittle was raising money on pace with what he did in the last election cycle and would continue to work hard.
"It's certainly a bigger challenge. He's got problems he has to deal with, I don't mean to sugarcoat it. But he's working harder," Temple said.
Doolittle also reported debts of nearly $35,000, and ended the reporting period Sept. 30 with just about $38,000 cash on-hand. Egland, an Air Force reservist who campaigned for Doolittle last year, had $77,700 cash on-hand and Brown had over $380,000.
Another Republican candidate, Auburn city councilman Mike Holmes, reported just over $12,000 in contributions and over $17,000 in cash on-hand. Republican state Assemblyman Ted Gaines has formed an exploratory committee to consider a run but hadn't filed fundraising numbers with the Federal Election Commission as of Monday evening.

You know, on one of the very first threads, you made your case that you thought Doolittle was damaged so much that folks should get behind an alternative. I had no problem with you having that opinion and I did not challenge it.
What I have a problem with is the unsubstantiated smear job and lies being spewed by those shilling for an unknown carpetbagger that just decided to become a Republican. Did you listen to the audio? Please do. If this isn’t a smear job, I don’t know what is. It’s crap! Even if you think Doolittle should step down, I would think you could acknowledge that and not jump on with others who call him a fascist or corrupt. But no... instead you now start labeling freepers as Doolittle bots and posting crap like the Flake Amendments as some contorted basis for justifying your supposed campaign strategy. That stinks! Doolittle deserves better than that!
Pat yourself on the back. The smear campaign is working.
Au contraire. You flew into a rage at us as soon as the trouble surrounding Doolittle reached critical mass and it could fail to escape our attention outside his district. He had problems before the last election and I was still willing to stand behind him. Not anymore. It’s willful ignorance to pretend he can escape this mess. He can’t even get himself out of debt. What are you going to do if he and (quite possibly) his wife get charged and convicted ? For somebody who is allegedly innocent, he seems to be doing all he can NOT to cooperate. I’d turn over every single document DoJ is asking for to get my name CLEARED ASAFP instead of dragging it out. It makes no sense.
If and when that happens, are you going to apologize to all of us for having seen the light before you did ? I mean give us some credit here, we know the difference between smear jobs (such as the one against Tom DeLay, who was the victim of an out-of-control creep radical Austin D.A. who indicts Republican and Conservative Democrat opponents at the drop of a hat) vs. politicians that got a little too ensconced in the culture of Washington.
And I said it before and I’ll say it again, you ought to know better than attach yourself so emotionally to a politician. They’re bound to let you down at some point. You need to stop directing your anger at the rest of us who probably agree with you on 99.99% of everything and start directing it at a man who is deliberately inflicting this kind of damage and harm to his own party and supposed ideological friends and supporters. Doolittle owes you and all of us better than that.
Thanks.
OUTRAGEOUS.
So, I sent an outrageous email:
GREETINGS CONGRESSCRITTER DOOLITTLE,
Several of my loved ones are your constituents.
You can be sure that ALL of them are outraged at your treatment of Deborah Johns as well as Major Eric Egland.
Perhaps you believe that such attacks will save your evidently traitorous and corrupt hide from being thrown out of office at the earliest opportunity. But I don’t think so. If anything, such attacks will grease the skids quite considerably.
BTW, my loved ones and I believe that Republicans, of all people, ought to be extremely patriotic and anti-globalist. When they behave the opposite, we get very energized and begin to do all we can to replace such outrageousness in public office. Thank you for helping me energize so many of your constituents toward such ends. You and your staff seem to have bent over backwards toward increasing such motivations in recent weeks.
However, it is also extremely deplorable that you and your behavior have given such an enormous edge to a DIMRAT traitor running against you. Sheesh! Perhaps you need to go to 7/11 and buy a dozen cases of shame to bring yourself up to even a minimum level of decency.
Most sincerely,
I listened to the audio.
I realize there’s some flack about Doolittle’s perceived junk and railing at him over it.
Considering Deborah John’s clear and persistent efforts in behalf of our troops etc . . . I consider her word against Doolittle’s to be considerably more likely to be 100% true.
Therefore, I consider my rant at him in my email to be well within reasonable. It won’t get past a staffer but at least it will possibly be registered as a strongly negative tick on the list of incoming emailis.
Thanks for your head-sup.

So, for the not so clever...

I can’t believe that you would actually listen to the message and agree with Williams on this.
Gordon basically said, hey, you are saying things about the Congressman that aren’t true. If you’ll call us with your concerns we can set the record straight.
Gordon was totally polite and completely above board.
Did you listen to the audio? Do you really think Gordon was out of line? He basically said, please stop saying things that aren’t true about the congressman. If you would just call us, we can set the record straight.
