Imus Returns, Will Avenge Hillary’s ‘Shameless Exploitation’ of Rutgers Controversy
NewsBusters ^ | October 15, 2007

Posted on 10/15/2007 9:48:54 AM PDT by uxbridge

If Matt Drudge is correct, the briefly excommunicated Don Imus will not only be back on the radio in December, but has also been hired by the leading talk radio station in the nation.

Deliciously, Imus is "particularly incensed by Senator Hillary Clinton's ‘shameless exploitation' of the Rutgers situation."

Of course, it is safe to assume Imus is fully aware the group that disseminated transcripts of his broadcast concerning the Rutgers women's basketball team, Media Matters for America, is an organization that Clinton admitted in August she "helped start and support."

The exclusive posted at the Drudge Report early Monday morning explained the details (emphasis added):

In a dramatic and dazzling career rebound, controversial radio host Don Imus has secured a deal returning him to the airwaves on December 3 -- this time on the nation's most listened to talk station, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned!

"Imus In The Morning" will make high-impact resurrection on WABC in New York City, top sources reveal.

[...]

Imus is said to be particularly incensed by Senator Hillary Clinton's "shameless exploitation" of the Rutgers situation.

The senator, who Imus has called "satan" and the "devil", traveled to Rutgers in April to praise the women's basketball team for its response to the controversy. In a campaign email, Hillary called Imus's comments "small-minded bigotry and coarse sexism."

"Hillary, prepare to meet your maker!" a source close to the host joked early Monday.

Right-thinking Americans across the fruited plain should hope that Imus is going to make it a crusade to expose the various entities in this nation such as Media Matters and the Center for American Progress which are indeed nothing more than propaganda arms of the Clintons.

Good luck, Don. Give ‘em hell!

Nobody seriously doubted Imus would get another gig on the air. The only questions were ‘who’ and ‘when’. The ‘where’ obviously would be New York City.

That said....at his height, he drew 1.5 million listeners, tops. Without being on cable, ala MSNBC’s morning program, he simply won’t have any real ‘impact’.

Most have heard ‘of’ Don Imus...but until the MSNBC gig, relatively few heard ‘from’ Don Imus.

Expect every nappy-headed liberal to come out with righteous indignation at this. THe radio station will probably cave...

It remains to be seen if Imus will pick a fight with her Thighness. Also, I wonder if he will give a special note of thanks to all of his past guests who courageously stood by him. (Crickets) And perhaps he will also give a note of thanks for all the people who really DID stand by him.

The Clinton machine succeeded in this round. But, who knows what can happen?

Perhaps Rush and every other conservative radio talk show host can replay nice Imus tidbits for national consumption.

Perhaps not, but in the NY metro area (Boston to Philly) he was huge among the older better educated crowd. It’s Interesting how many times I heard CxO types and very senior managers allude to the fact that they listened to him. A lot of those guys were serious Dims.

If Imus is back and going to have his revenge on Hillary... WELCOME BACK and go get her.

Hillary didn’t put the words in Imus’ mouth and, unlike Rush, Imus was not taken out of context.

If he wants to lash out against Hillary, fine. More power to him. But he said what he said and it is no more excusable now than it was when he said it.

Advertising rates for the Imus show were the highest in New York radio even though the market was relatively small. His fan base has money to spend.
I’ll be glad to see him return. He said for years that Hillary would never be on his show. She got rid of him for a while but he’s coming back. It should be great fun. I hope Bernie has an on air slot with him.

I’ve never bought into the notion a talk show host could influence any election cycle....let alone one like Imus with such a small audience (comparatively).

Remember Howard Stern was going to destroy the reelection for Bush and Cheney? And he has a helluva lot more listeners. Just one example, there are others.

Hillary Clinton is to New York now what Kennedy’s are to Taxachuettes. You could have every talk show host trash her forever, and she’ll always be reelected there.

Why would Rush help Imus? Because Imus was targeted (successfully by Media Matters)

Media Matters has targeted Rush, Hannity and Levin...and is working to get them off the air in time for the general election campaign

Hillary knows how many votes conservative talk radio delivers.

Imus and Rush (and other conservative radio hosts) all have a common enemy

A glance at Imus’s numbers v Rush or Hannity doesn’t support the notion. Nor does a comparision of advertisers.

From a ratings standpoint, Imus was way way outclassed by both, for years.

Did he? Personally, I never listened to Imus and only took note of him after the Hillary instigated scandal. I did find out after the fact, that he had a rather wide audience that appealed to independent and centrist voters that made the attack by Media Matters make sense. If a centrist quasi lefty with a similar national audience is attacking Hillary Clinton, that could sway a few voters.

Perhaps in his new incarnation, Imus will display a new humility, but continue to flame Hillary. One can only hope.

‘Did he?’

Yes, he did. He and his ‘crew’ routinely referred to Limbaugh as the ‘pill popping fat ass’ on ‘good’ days. They routinely trashed Hannity, and Fox News.

People are forgetting Don Imus was the radio King - of negativity.

I'm not comparing Rush and Imus by any means...I wouldn't even try to make the case that Imus is conservative. I remember Imus blaming Harold Ford's defeat in 2004 on racism...so its not that I like Imus or think that, on some level, he got what was coming to him. Imus was targeted by Media Matters only because he hates Hillary and made that known over and over again on his show.

The bottom line is that it is a good thing that we'll have a nationally syndicated radio host on the air next year who has a personal vendetta against Hillary

A conservative is a liberal who has been mugged. We shall see how Mr. Imus feels. He fell for Kerry in 2004 but may draw the line at Hillary.

It seemed last time that, whenever the facts had Imus cornered, he retreated into cynicism. He could do the same in 2008 and say both candidates are unworthy of support. Even if he went after Hillary full-bore, he couldn't turn NYC against her. They are awash in the Hillary Kool Aid.

Hannity’s audience dwarfed Imus’s as well.

Ironically, the last three shows Imus did before getting canned, he trashed Harold ‘Call Me!’ Ford repeatedly for not coming to his defense.

That's true - he won't sway Gotham City - they're too far gone. It is interesting (at least to me) that Imus has been placed in a demographic where his rants against Hillary will be basically ineffective. That's why I advocate talk radio circling the wagons, so to speak, against Media Matters.

I routinely flip the channel in the morning while getting my two cups of coffee. If it wasn’t for the fact I can only take so much ‘lightweight’ commentary from Fox and Friends at that time of day, I’d have never heard Imus ‘live’ either.

What really sucks, IMHO, is the replacement for Imus is pure leftwing idoltry courtesy of Joe Scarborough. Couldn’t believe the crap I heard from the former liquor distributor (Willie Geise, from his MSNBC bio) running that program while Scarborough is off.

I realized that each was sufficient to last an entire lifetime.

I really, really like Curtis and Kuby and Gambling and Rush and Sean and Mark and Bob Grant and Laura and I would really hate to have a happy listening day broken up.

If Phil Boyce needs to stick Imus in a morning slot somewhere, stick him in on Saturday or Sunday when WABC radio is a wasteland. Alternatively, stick him in the schedule after midnight.....that has a nice ring to it....”Imus After Midnight” but leave my programs and their time slots ALONE!!

Actually I would listen to Ron Kuby, without Sliwa rather than listen to Imus. For a New Yorker Curtis and Kuby is informative, humorous, and the presence of differing opinions gives the show some intellectual bite. If Despair America had had any sense it would have offered Kuby very big bucks to join it. But he's too intellectual for them and he's a Second Amendment supporter to boot.

I'll take 770 off my car radio the day C & K are replaced by that drooling over the hill hypocrite.
