Flash photography. Probably blinded the driver for an instant.A very bright flash would be necessary to photograph occupants in a car with tinted windows. a 1000 watt extended flash could easily blind a driver under the influence and at 75mph it would only take an instant to run into a pillor. I believe the paparrazzi on bikes caused the crash.

Also I don’t believe they were wearing their seat belts. You can drive drunk, roll, drive of and embankment, or otherwise completely destroy your car, and the greatest indicator of whether or not you will survive has repeatedly been shown to be whether on not you were wearing your seat belt.
Space aliens or paparazzi did not stop them from buckling up. Even the drunk driver buckled up and lived.

Actually he’s done a fantastic job at harrods.

The body guard was apparently buckled up although that is disputed.

extremely drunk. He had been drinking all evening and was swaying.
And then he drove down a concrete underpass well over the speed limit, hotly pursued by the press.
I am sorry for the bereavement of many who loved Lady Di, truly, but Vince Foster this isn't.
The fact that Prince Phillip and Princess Anne happened to be in the tunnel that night with a World War II searchlight, yelling "we'll get her this time" is just one of those crazy coincidences.
