A would-be burglar is dead, after targeting the wrong house early Tuesday morning.
Police said the homeowner confronted and shot the intruder about 4:10 a.m. inside a small garage at the back of his property in the 3600 block of Cortez Drive, a few blocks north of Dallas Love Field.
The unidentified burglar was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
According to investigators, the shooting appears to have been justified.

“A nice fresh armed citizen story to go with your morning coffee”.
...Thanks! The only story that would make it better is if Bill thought there was an intruder in HIS garage and it was Hillary.
That should save the prison system some money.
Or Pelosi, Schumer, Kennedy, Reid, Durbin, etc., etc......
This is the kind of news I like to hear. Good guys 1 - bad guys 0.
Don’t mess with Texans.
Thanks, that's exactly how I'm reading. I came this close (holding fingers together) to moving to Texas when I retired from the USAF. Spent about two months in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and outside of getting onto the freeways, thought it was a great place to live. Alas, wife found work in Ohio, and after her having followed me around for near 20 years, it was my turn. ;)
Castle Doctrine pings. This is why I love living in Texas.
Good. One less scum.
That is pretty swift on the reporting side of this...They even have the location “Frapped”...
Not sure I’m digging that side of the deal, but hey...Only a stupid person would think to do anything there anyway...
What am I saying??? hehehe
Come on stupid people!!! Go there and voice your dissension!!!
But only do it at 4am in da mo-nin!!!
I know, I am such a stinker!!!
It was too bad really. Everyone was at a loss to explain it. Everyone was so broken up about the tragic loss of life for this young promising fine upstanding beacon of light in the community that they all went back and had some more of that terrific ice cream and took some more photos.
Hopefully he won’t have to kill the burlar again.
From the story...
A Ledbetter-area business owner fatally shot a suspected burglar on Sunday, the second time in three weeks that he has killed a prowler, police said.
Sunday night around 10pm, the wife was coming home and noticed 3 men wearing black run between some houses into the alley. After she told me I grabbed my flash light and jump into the car, I noticed some police around that same house, explained to them what she had seen, confirming to the police what the neighbors had also reported...
Unfortunately, we could not find them...We have had a bunch of theft from garages in our quiet little community just east of Dallas.
The real here: Good bird!! HELLO....
real “hero” here
This story reminds me of one a coworker shared with me.
Before automation cut so many crew, everyone was pretty tight. One guy happened to be running errands close to another’s home, so he dropped by for a visit. Welp, nobody answered the door. Seeing as the other fellow lived out in the relaxed country, the visitor let himself into the house calling, “Hello?” He got halfway across the living room when, from the other side of the wall, came a small, clear voice saying, “I love you.” The amorous speaker repeated the message. The visitor got the creeps from that isolated voice with its unvarying answer, and fled the house.
It was the homeowner’s parakeet.
They seem to be getting bold lately. My mother’s neighbor was burglarized last week. “They” knocked down the front door. The neighbor had been grocery shopping. She got home to a broken down front door, went CAREFULLY inside and called 911 just as she saw someone leave through the back. This is in a neighborhood in north Arlington.
That’s when you want a concealed handgun! I would not have entered the house without a gun.
I worry about my family during the day, we are in a homeschooling coop. so most days the wife and kids are at home...My wife and my oldest son know where the guns are and how to use them though...That reminds me, time for some more target practice.
Life is great...sitting here drinking coffee, my sales assistant is wearing a short dress again, and the new Fox Business Network is great......and a homeowner took out the trash so I, one day, wouldn't have to".
Its that Microsoft mapping thing where you can put a “tag” on a map and bubble off some details about something or yourself on that website...
I’ve seen it around for a while...I think thats what they call it...
I just noticed it on the newspapers website accounting of the incident...(Just over to the right of the story on the link provided)
No they don't. But she'd feel right at home. ;)
Parrot chirping “hello” wakens Texas man who shoots burglar
2 hours ago
CHICAGO (AFP) A parrot chirping “hello” woke his Texas owner up to find, and then shoot, a burglar in his garage Tuesday, local media reports.
“I guess you could call him a stool pigeon,” owner Dennis Baker told the Dallas Morning News.
It was the fifth time the home, which is also used as a locksmith shop, was burglarized this month.
So when Baker woke to the sounds of Salvador, his Mexican Red-headed parrot, saying “hello, hello” he knew something was wrong.
You'd think the thieves would get the message.
There’s not really enough information to tell if it’s the same incident!
