California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill on Sunday, as he previously said he would, to bar the two biggest U.S. public pension funds from investing in companies doing business in Iran.
The bill, which affects the California Public Employees' Retirement System and the California State Teachers' Retirement System, comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran.
Schwarzenegger's office had issued an announcement last month stating he would sign the bill while he was in New York as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was appearing at Columbia University.
"I couldn't be more proud to sign this bill,"
Schwarzenegger echoed the U.S. government's view of Iran's government as a state sponsor of terrorism.

the California Public Divest from Iran Act which prohibits CalPERS and CalSTRS from investing public employee retirement funds in a company with business operations in Iran. CalPERS, the states employee retirement fund, is the largest pension fund in the nation and CalSTRS, the states public education retirement fund, is the second largest pension fund in the nation.
Burkle, Clinton, and friends will not be happy ?
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today signed AB 221 by Assemblymember Joel Anderson (R-El Cajon) which prohibits the states pension funds from investing in companies with active business in Iran.
Over six years from 9/11...still a marathon ahead.
Or since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution...
A very good move.
California teachers are all about the money. If they won’t even educate the children of the state, what makes people think that they care about where their money is invested, as long as it makes them a profit.
Take Los Angeles......30% graduation rate? Give me a break here. The teachers also take most of the state tax money. That needs to stop.
Good for Arnold.
This is only about 28 years late.
Of course Burkle and the Union Thugs and their liberal teachers will be upset.
Nice job, Arnold.
Thanks george for the topic.
