Pelosi: Radio attacks on boy unfair
By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent 53 minutes ago
Seeking support for a vetoed children's health insurance bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi charged Tuesday that "hate radio has made a vicious attack" on a 12-year-old Baltimore boy who receives coverage through the program.
Pelosi said the allegations were "beneath the dignity of the debate" that surrounds the legislation.
Democrats hope to enact the measure over Bush's opposition, and a House vote scheduled for Thursday. A two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress is required to override a veto, and supporters of the measure appear well short of their goal in the House.
Speaking at a news conference attended by singer Paul Simon, Pelosi, D-Calif., did not identify the targets of her criticism by name. Numerous conservative commentators in recent days have questioned whether the 12-year-old boy, Graeme Frost should qualify for the program for lower-income children.
Democrats enlisted Frost to speak on a recent weekly radio program, where he said the children's insurance program allowed him to get medical help after suffering brain injuries in an automobile accident.
"I just hope the president will listen to my story and help other kids be as lucky as me," he said at the time.
One blog, Free Republic.com, posted a report that said Frost attended a private school where tuition was $20,000 a year, that the family lives in an area where one home recently sold for nearly $500,000, and that a photo and "shows what appears to be a recent remodeling job with granite counter tops and glass-front cabinets."
Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh also commented. "This family owns a house in a neighborhood of homes valued in the 400,000 to 500,000 range," he said on Oct. 8.

The boy is not under attack. His parents’ sense of responsibility is under attack as are the motives of the RATs who put forth that family from obscurity into the spotlight for their own partisan ends. I don’t recall anyone saying the boy should not receive medical care or a decent education - simply questioning why the taxpayers should foot the bill when the parents have the means to pay for it themselves.

What millennia was that? So-called “journalists” have always had a bias and an axe to grind. It’s just easier to see now that we have alternative sources of information (i.e., blogs, FR, talk radio, etc..)

Maybe Nancy should ask why these residents of Baltimore feel compelled to send their kids to private schools? If they sent them to public schools, they could afford health insurance. Maybe there are problems in the public schools that need to be addressed.

Anything to distract, discredit and denigrate those opposed to their tack, that is the weasel war cry. They are pitiful.
I expect a lot of ‘administrative’ work will have to be done here over the next year or so to deal with increased riffraff traffic. Expect a lot of malevolent visitors, who will be laying for the offhand comment or anything they can run with.

Of course they are b/c she doesn't want for everyone to know the dirty little secret: that there are a lot of families in the Frost's position who qualify for SCHIPs precisely b/c of a child's diagnosis (and for many I'm talking "minor" ailments such as 'speech delayed')....the Frost family is NOT the only family getting government paid for health care while living in a half a million dollar house. You would think a real journalist would be looking into that little aspect of this story but they won't...they have an agenda and its name is socialized medicine.

I dont recall anyone saying the boy should not receive medical care or a decent education - simply questioning why the taxpayers should foot the bill when the parents have the means to pay for it themselves.I believe the issue is not that the parents should pay for the care themselves, but that they could have afforded health insurance premiums BEFORE the accident. If they had accepted that responsibility and thought of the consequences of a severe accident on the family, they maybe would have deferred some lifestyle purchases.
When I began doing independent consulting and my health insurance carry-over period had expired, I had a decision to make. Because I had a minor occurrence of skin cancer, I couldn't get reasonably priced coverage from BC-BS. NM has a state program which is very costly and has a high deductible. I made a choice to sign up for that because as a middle-aged man with a history of heart disease in the family, I felt I could not take the chance of being hospitalized without coverage, especially for something major. I went that way for two years until I joined another company that provided me with insurance coverage. I never needed to use the state program, but it was reassuring to have it. It's about taking responsibility for yourself and your family.

Anyone see a pattern? Clinton, Gore and Kerry all used phony human props to cite their position on health care insurance.
During John Kerry's nomination acceptance speech during the 2004 DNC, he trotted out his health insurance "poster child", Mary Ann Knowles. Kerry stated that she had to "keep working day after day right through her chemotherapy, no matter how sick she felt, because she was terrified of losing her family's health insurance". In reality, she had excellent coverage with 26 weeks of paid disability leave, but she
chose to work through most of her treatment because her husband was unemployed.
Video of Kerry's Speech

Al Gore tried this same tactic in 2000 with Winifred Skinner.
Al Gore said, "It brings tears to your eyes. Here's this adorable, elderly woman out in Iowa who's so sick and so poor, that in order to pay for medicines she needs to stay alive, she has to scavenge in a local dump yard for cast-off tin cans."
"She gets a small pension," he said. "But in order to pay for her prescription drug benefits she has to go out seven days a week, several hours a day, picking up cans."
It turns out, as the statement was rectified, Mrs. Skinner goes out zero days a week, for zero hours a day, and that she was only speaking "in the name of" people she assumes must do this.
In 1994, Hillary Clinton used Kathy Bush when citing her case as an example of the high cost of medical care.

Later, investigators found the mother guilty of intentionally making her daughter sick and forcing her to undergo more than 40 needless surgeries, in what prosecutors called a case of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.
Forty-two-year old Kathy Bush had been charged with aggravated child abuse and fraud for bilking thousands of dollars from the State of Florida for medical expenses incurred by her daughter, Jennifer. The mother faces up to 45 years in prison.

Throwing out victims again, to pull at the heart strings. And nevermind that the victims aren't really victims of anything other than the unfairness of life and some poor decisions. We should still foot their bills and feel bad about our own successes, whether because of our hard work, the hand of providence and our good choices.

Liberals have no dignity and know no shame. Liberals only get upset when they get caught lying and/or distorting the truth. All Liberals fear is exposure, exposure, exposure. Lying, distorting, and dirty politics is the center piece of the Liberal creed. Pelosi’s approval numbers are in the toilet bowl and yet she pretends that what she says is relevant. IMO, she’s delusional.

They could have afforded health insurance for at least their kids and probably should have had enough car insurance for accidents so a lack of planning on their part doesn’t constitute an emergency on the taxpayers part.

If the GOP had any brains, it would do some commercials that make clear that the RATS are trying to victimize
the taxpayers. For ex, how about a spot starring a nonworking 25-year old who lives with his parents--who have an income of $80,000/year. He could say how great the bill is because if it goes into effect he won't have to get a job in order to have health insurance. That's why he loves the RAT party. It lets him sponge off the taxpayer even though his family has plenty of money.

Because the "lovable goofball" dad Halsey Frost can't hold down a steady job. But the "lovable goofball" has time to father 4 kids. And the "lovable goofball" has time to fly to washington for a week to let his kid tape commercials for the DNC and pose for pictures with liberal congresspeople. But don't ask the "lovable goofball" to put in 40 hours of work per week. And don't dare ask the "lovable goofball" to pay a thin dime for his kids insurance. No sir, that's someone ELSE'S job.
