Craig Says He Was Entrapped in Sex Sting (tonight on Dateline)
The Washington Post ^ | Oct 16, 2007 | MATTHEW DALY, AP

Posted on 10/16/2007 7:48:18 PM PDT by RDTF

WASHINGTON -- Idaho Sen. Larry Craig said he was entrapped in a sex sting at an airport men's room and was not aware of the bathroom's reputation as a spot to cruise for gay sex. "Well, I certainly am now," Craig told NBC's Matt Lauer in an interview aired Tuesday night.

"Were you prior?" Lauer asked.

"Not at all," Craig responded. "I go to bathrooms to use bathrooms."

Craig said it was a "tough call" when he decided not to tell his wife or children about the arrest.

"I didn't want to embarrass my wife, my kids, Idaho and my friends," Craig said. "I should have told my wife. I should have told my kids. And most importantly, I should have told counsel."

Suzanne Craig said that when her husband told her the story was about to break, "I felt like the floor was falling out from under me. And I felt almost like I was going down a drain for a few moments."

Craig, 62, says he is not gay, and in the NBC interview, he and his wife said their marriage was based on love. Asked by Lauer whether theirs was a marriage of convenience to cover "a gay lifestyle," Suzanne Craig responded, "I would never do that. ... That's almost like selling your soul for something

-snip-

Craig also discussed his relationship with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Craig was Senate liaison for Romney's campaign, a post he abandoned when the scandal became known. Romney called Craig's conduct "disappointing and disgraceful" and immediately dropped Craig when the guilty plea was revealed.

"I was very proud of my association with Mitt Romney," Craig said. "And he not only threw me under his campaign bus, he backed up and ran over me again."

Slick Willard does that.

Yeah, Craig is bi partisan. He worked with many Democrats across the aisle in support of the amnesty bill.

Tough call? Yeah, right. Like every other liar, the "tough" part came from wondering if he could get away with the lie. If Craig said the sun came up in the morning, I would start having doubts about it...

One more reason why the approval ratings of Congress is in the teens.

It's still that high?

If you stomp on their foot or hand, does this imply that you don’t consent or that you like it rough?

Now that everyone knows the signs, if you do that it's a hate crime.

a couple of actual facts here
1. the media knew of the incident and passed
for 5 or 6 months

2. if he is gay or anyone is gay, there ain’t a first, there is a next....he got no one for a year sayin they was first

3. I bet he coped to “invading someone’s space in a toilet” in his mind. As a Senator he said yes to whatever got him outta this PC moment in a toilet. I bet at this second he had no clue sex was involved and I also bet the media thought the same at the time.

4. His wife when asked by Lauer, would a marriage of convience....blah blah.....I absolutely believe her

5 . Idaho ...........again...........Idaho.......

6. His fight to hold his office by fighting to hold his
decency......................I believe him

That's the thing with these arrogant public serpents. They let their head get too big. They think that the oral skills that got them into office can help them get out of any tight hole they find themselves in. Craig is no exception.

I read that cop knows- and said he could identify- something like 70 US senators. He’s a political junkie! I think he knew who Craig was at the time.

I’m fuzzie, but I’m pretty sure I read that. I put nothing put the Clintons; they said they would get even with everyone involved in Impeachment.

Even if Craig is a dope, something smells here.

It’s that “breach of the peace” thingy that I keep going back to. Things like disorderly conduct and interference with privacy do kinda look like breaches of the peace, but what do I know? Maybe bothering a man when he’s in a toilet stall is a way to promote social harmony.

That’s a good argument for understanding that he was guilty as hell.

If he had argued that he had congressional immunity, the case would have been in the news within a day. By pleading, he managed to keep the case quiet.

If he had nothing to hide, he would have fought the charges and been willing to go public.

“He’s a political junkie! I think he knew who Craig was at the time.”

Wasn’t the cop already on his tubesteakout before Senator Corksoaker arrived at the airport?

What normal man would falsely plead guilty to attempted sodomy under *any* circumstances?

"as a congressman the numbskull knows all about his right to an atty and should know his protection under the constitution."

I'm not sure that maybe Craig shouldn't have been afforded some measure of privacy- not because he is a Senator, but I mean anybody- after all, he plead guilty to "disorderly conduct" NOT lewd behavior, which he was arrested for. For the police or city or whoever to divulge all the details seems inappropriate for the plea. If he had plead guilty to lewd behavior, that's different. But he didn't.

I didn’t know about the World Club. Please tell me more. Is it really located right near the restroom Craig went to at the MSP terminal? Is there any reason a US Senator would not have or want access to World Club?

“I care about the way he votes on issues.”

If I may say so, it is my belief that we could turn the entire Senate and House out to pasture — start all over, and in very short order have a much better functioning government.

In my earlier years I spent some time in close proximity to the apex of National Power. And, it was my observation that these gents, perhaps unwittingly, ultimately catch Potomac Fever — and begin to believe their own press clippings — to the tragic detriment of good government. It was my view that mediocrity reigned supreme -- almost without exception -- at all levels within our National government. The really talented gents were heading up corporations and/or companies in the private sector.

Please remember that virtually ALL of the participants in the Continental Congress rode their horses to attend to National Business — and then, when the job was done, saddled up to ride home — to continue earning an HONEST living.

Career pols can be replaced in a heartbeat —with steadfast replacements that can, almost without exception, do seriously heavy lifting in a remarkably short period at the helm. We can ALL be replaced —with, in most cases, a far better product!

“I read that cop knows- and said he could identify- something like 70 US senators. He’s a political junkie! I think he knew who Craig was at the time.”

I’ve heard the same thing. I believe someone looked into it and the cop is active in local Democrat politics. It should be in the public record so not too hard to look up.

The whole things seems fishy. Not to be too graphic, but if Larry Craig was literally using toilet paper and wiping, how in the heck could he be cruising for sex? It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. That fact alone would seem to support Craig’s innocence.

Very well said. I agree.

FYI, don’t take me too seriously. I’m harmless in moderation. Go back and reread the context of the posts.

Good night.
