"One blog, Free Republic.com, posted a report that said Frost attended a private school where tuition was $20,000 a year, that the family lives in an area where one home recently sold for nearly $500,000, and that a photo and "shows what appears to be a recent remodeling job with granite counter tops and glass-front cabinets.""

Actually, the countertops are the more expensive concrete ones. Granite runs 60-100 sf, concrete 65-125 and has a “designer” cachet to it.
Otherwise, Pelosi seems to be accurate.

The boy’s parents, Halsey and Bonnie Frost say they earn between $45,000 and $50,000 a year, a level that places them within the insurance program eligibility guidelines for a family of six in Maryland.
They say their children attend private schools on scholarships and that they purchased their home for $55,000 in 1990 and it has appreciated in value since.
“Because of the intelligence and the aptitude of the son who was in the accident he goes to a private school, because he’s on scholarship there ... because the house of the family appreciated, they bought it for 50,000, they make 45,000 a year or something like that ... they are calling them wealthy,” Pelosi said of critics of the family.
___________________________________________________
I do not know of any private schools that give scholarships out to people making this much money. I also do not know of any $50k homes that have granit countertops even if they were purcahsed in the 90’s.

It also reminds me when Morton Downey Jr. was claiming bankruptcy and sitting on his couch underneath an original painting by someone like Seurat. His defense was that it was purchased by his ancestors and he could never give it up.

Our 2 cars have over 100,000 miles on them each. Our kids, while bright and diligent students, go to public school. My husband's healthcare policy generally sucks, but I'm grateful we're covered in the event of an emergency. We pay more of our healthcare expenses out of pocket than not.
During the time he had no insurance, I made sure we could get coverage through my employer. (I have since lost that job because the company went out of business.) In spite of being unemployed for more than a year, we managed to meet our obligations.
Tell me, Nance, why should someone like me pay for the healthcare of a family who chooses to buy three new high-end vehicles and remodel their home rather than meet their insurance obligations?

I notice the piece conveniently leaves out the kicker in the bill - that it would give 'free' insurance (out of our pockets) to families with incomes up to over $80,000!
Which means most employers could drop their insurance coverages and and and - Socialism would have yet another foot in the door -

I couldn’t get a dime in scholarship money for a special needs kid, nor could I myself get any. Loans a plenty, but no grants.
Tons of Minorities around me were going to school for free. NOw if they had better than a 3.8 in sciences, then fine, but otherwise, all of this SUCKS.

Good point, the fact is that as the program stands now, a family claiming to make 50k with a 3000sf home and commercial property with 2 tenants and 3 suvs that pays to send 3 kids to private school-THEY QUALIFY!
The issue now is do we expand it to cover people with even more.

“Democrats enlisted Frost to speak on a recent weekly radio program, where he said the children’s insurance program allowed him to get medical help after suffering brain injuries in an automobile accident.”
I do not understand this. If he was in a car accident, why did the car insurance not take care of the medical care? That is why we are forced to buy car insurance. And, what is uninsured motorist insurance for?

The family used the term "financial aid" in the second Baltimore Sun article. Reids spokesperson said 3 of the kids are in private school at a cost of $500 per child. Leftwing blogs crow about "full scholarships".
The 4th child, the girl injured in the accident, goes to a special needs school paid for by the state. She also attended Park prior to the accident.
Mr. Reilly, a friend of the Frosts for 10 years and tenant in the Frosts commercial property, said it was his understanding that the grandparents paid the tuition.
It is not clear when the financial aide began (before or after the accident), or how much it actually is.

What so many of the details that are reported fail to note is that the mother chose to leave a job that provided her family health insurance.
It was not that such a job, and its insurance were not available to her, in her circumstances, they were.
She made a choice that required she get the SCHIP assisted insurance. She (the mother) and Ms. Pelosi have no problem telling everyone else that yes, now you are responsible for the results of the mothers choice.
The public must be vigorously reminded that, if allowed to, under the SCHIP expansion that the Dims seek, millions now covered by reasonable personal or employer insurance will make that same choice, because even though they have insurance now the higher-income eligibility rules that the Dims seek will let them.

Folks, we’re talking about Nancy Pelosi here. Had she not figured out how to jump the bones of a rich guy, she’d be saying “want to supersize that?” at your local fast food joint. Mentioning anything with numbers to her is like trying to teach your pet calculus. Won’t work. Ever. She is really, really, (congressional-class) stupid.

The question was not just whether the parents COULD afford coverage, they WERE covered. Didnt the kid go on the air to appeal for even WIDER coverage?I think questioning why the initial coverage is so broad is also a valid question, but then again, I'm a heartless convervative.

I had an aunt who bought her home in the 1930s for $3,000. Very modest price, no? At the time of her death it was worth over $425,000.
There comes a point at which you can sell a valuable property and move to something more reasonably priced.
It’s the whole concept behind flipping properties and moving elsewhere.
