Greenland’s temps: From www.CO2Science.org

Past Climate in Greenland

What was done
Temperature measurements from two Greenland Ice Sheet boreholes were used to reconstruct the temperature history of the Greenland Ice Sheet over the past 50,000 years.

What was learned
The data revealed that temperatures on the Greenland Ice Sheet during the Last Glacial Maximum (approximately 25,000 years ago) were 23 ± 2 °C colder than at present. After the termination of the glacial period, temperatures increased steadily to a maximum of 2.5°C warmer than at present during the Climatic Optimum (4,000 to 7,000 years ago). The Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age were also documented in the record, with temperatures 1°C warmer and 0.5-0.7°C cooler than at present, respectively. After the Little Ice Age, the authors report that “temperatures reached a maximum around 1930 A.D.” and that “temperatures have decreased during the last decades.”

What it means
The results of this study stand in direct contrast to the predictions of general circulation models (GCMs) that consistently suggest there should have been a significant warming in high northern latitudes over the past several decades. They also show large temperature excursions over the last 10,000 years, when the air’s CO2 content was relatively stable. Both of these observations raise doubts about the ability of current GCMs to accurately forecast earth’s climatic response to the ongoing rise in the atmosphere’s CO2 concentration.

I wonder what Shermer, the professional skeptic has to say about the goreghoul claims?

Great article. Thanks. I book marked it for my research. BTW, I also bookmark AGW support sites because I like to be knowledgeable about both sides of an issue. Over the past year of study and research it has become abundantly clear that AGW is myth propagated by cult leaders - not scientists following the scientific method.

Yet archaeological evidence would suggest that there was fertile land and exodus caused by, yes land mismanagement, but also more urgently by a change in climate.

When I visited New Zealand, this month in '05, I walked on a glacier that has been growing since 1979. Our guide, a devout Warmist (Southern Rite), believed that glacial growth was caused by increasing snowfall as temperatures increase. Northern Rite Warmists simultaneously claim that Greenland's glaciers are shrinking because it's getting warmer.

People of faith can have it as many ways as they wish. This is one of the perks of the holy order.

Several research papers about the Antarctic ice fields bring that up: warmer temps yield more water vapor -> more snow falling interior of Greenland/Antarctica> LESS WATER in the ocean -> and so lowering sea levels!

In fact there is a very old hypothesis, the Ewing-Donn hypothesis, which claims that ice ages were caused when the Arctic became warm enough to be ice-free, leading to increased precipitation that fed glaciers. When the sea level dropped far enough that the Arctic became sealed off from the other oceans, and froze over, the precipitation stopped and the glaciers began melting.

We don't hear about this lately, so the hypothesis must not have panned out.

The new line is that it doesn't really matter whether it's true or not...the global warming "crisis" "forces" us to do things we "should be doing anyway."

And that's the dirty truth about the GW scaremongers.
