The Boy Scouts of America's refusal to bend its rules to permit gay scouts will cost the organization's local chapter $200,000 a year if it wishes to keep its headquarters in a city-owned building on Logan Square.
Representatives of the Boy Scouts of America's Cradle of Liberty Council were notified that to remain in their 79-year-old landmark headquarters, they needed to pay the city a "fair market" rent, Fairmount Park Commission president Robert N.C. Nix said yesterday. Currently, the rent is $1 a year....

I only give money to the Boy Scouts. I guess liberals think the tolerant union run public school system will help the poor city kids enough.

The current rent in One Dollar per year!
I am not sure the Scouts need to be 200k a year but One Dollar is ridiculous. The Scouts do not need to be receiving Welfare from the city. Raise the rent.

I may not agree, but as a private organization, the Boy Scouts should be able to admit whomever they wish.
OTOH, as a private organization, what makes them entitled to free government office space?

One more reason to not like Philly. They have choke football team, led by a choke QB, and they don’t like the Boy Scouts. Hey Philly, choke on it.

That isn’t the point. The $1 a year rent was meant to honor this organization and what it stands for. That is, when things were decent and moral.

How do they handle other nonprofit groups? Are they being discriminatory toward Scouts? Philly citizens need to get hot over this.

The Boy Scouts of America's refusal to bend its rules to permit gay scouts...Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the Boy Scouts policy to not allow "gay" scout leaders vs. gay scout members?

That isnt the point. Actually that is the point. Why should the tax payer subsidize a private organization?
There are other organizations in the country that to some people may seem to be decent and moral but we do not give them free rent.

They can’t do that. That would be considered an unfair rent increase, exceeding the limits set by the rent control board. Even if they raised the rent to $2 dollars, it would exceed the Max allowed rent increase.
Sorry Philadelphia, but you have to follow your own rules too, no matter how badly the fags running the city want to try extortion on the boy scouts.
The scouts should take the city to court anyways for attempting this illegal extortion.

I will not spend a dime in Philly or San Fran. Law abiding citizens need to get the hell out of hellholes and leave it to the pervert infested filth that call these places home. Once they start turning on each other they will be begging for moral and honest families to come back, too late.

You've got that right, except I'm afreaid other cities such as Boston share this dishonor.
Philadelphia also needs to pay their fair share to remain in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Since they suck up far more in tax dollars than they contribute, they need to find another state to accept them. Hint: New Jersey is next door. Take our governor with you on your way out.

Actually, the lease would be for the land. The scouts built the building and presumably still own it.

You’re right - no private organization should be given government property rent-free, no matter what their views are. (Of course, now I’m wondering how many Democrat-leaning organizations are enjoying city property rent-free.)

The Boy Scouts did what they could to keep Philly liveable. They should relocate to a friendlier community and let Philly continue to rot.I agree with you completely. The Boy Scouts should join the rest of the decent, hard-working traditional American families who have escaped, and flee that swirling turd of a city as quickly as possible.

The land belongs to the City of Philadelphia but has been leased since 1928 for that token sum to the scouts, who built the landmark Beaux Arts building. If I were the Scouts I'd demand my building back.
