Ron Paul: Republican or Revolutionary?

While national polls place him near the bottom of the field, impressive fundraising, Internet buzz and crowds of spirited followers have Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, in unfamiliar territory. Vote Ron Paul: Dark Horse Or Real Contender?
As his campaign gains traction, Paul faces a philosophical contradiction: Is he the principled agent provocateur, known as "Dr. No" on Capitol Hill, trying to bring about a grass-roots anti-big-government uprising in American politics?
Or is Paul a Republican presidential candidate with a libertarian bent, seeking big money contributions to fund a traditional campaign?
More important for Paul, can he be both?

You can believe what you want, but he is breaking out of the second tier. He has the money and is now getting the attention to make a real run in the primaries.

Do politicians really brood that much about these things?
Once they get bitten by the idea of running for higher office, do they realistically weigh their chances?
Or do they just hit the ground running?
Ask Dennis Kuchinich and get back to us.

Target marketing.
Should run this in Willis Carto's rags across from his column.
And Tobin is right, aside from the crazy Ron Paul there's not too much difference between the Presidential candidates.

I happened to be in a fast-food joint the other day and overheard a group of teens discussing something at school. I was shocked to notice that nearly every sentence they spoke was liberally sprinkled with the “F” word. I left wondering if any of them could carry on an intelligent conversation without that word - or even if they could carry on an intelligent conversation.
Here, I notice much the same thing. Some posters seem unable to write a coherent message without using words like “moonbat,” or “loon,” or “idiot.” If, as I suspect, that is true and they are unable to speak or write intelligently. . . . Just who is the idiot?

Ron Paul is an idiot, and any Freeper who still openly supports this guy is as idiotic as RP. You can remain in denial, but Dr. Paul was invited to a private fundraiser hosted by none other than the RNC. He and Mitt Romney were the only ones to show up. He's starting to get the big donors now, lots of individuals are donating the maximum contribution of $2,300. Rumor has it that on November 5th, thousands of people are going to donate $100 simultaneously to his campaign.

"You hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability..."

I think that, when Ron Paul first entered the race, he didn’t think much of his own chances. I think he said he thought it would be another 10-20 years before the US was ready for his type of message. But then, as he says, his supporters found him.
Now he has a fighting chance.

I support Ron Paul...for Thompson’s running mate. I don’t think I disagree with him on a single domestic issue. He just shouldn’t be Commander-in-Chief because he doesn’t understand how disastrous it was when the founders tried to take a neutral position.
Oh how I would love see a movement to abolish the IRS and the many useless wasteful departments of the executive branch.

Unfortunately, that is true where I live too and it is not just the underclass kids. On top of that, they show no respect for anyone. If they sat down next to a bunch of blue haired ladies, their conduct would be the same.

"Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who wants to end the war immediately"
That makes him the LAST candidate I'd consider voting for -- yes, even after Hillary. Leaving immediately from Iraq/Afghanistan would be a total disaster and even Hillary, Obama, etc. know that. If all you Paul supporters had half a brain you'd see why no other candidate is advocating such an insane withdrawal plan.

Interesting idea.... I wonder if Paul’s volunteers would go for it (since they are in control not Paul, lol). The Republican party could then co-opt the energy of all those volunteers and the $$$ they are raising. I dunno... I’d think Thompson would have to give Paul something pretty big in return, like no IRS and Fed reserve and a promise to bring half the troops home from around the world or something...
It’d be a tough bargain, but it is interesting to speculate.

Oh, it could be like the Truman-Dewey election. Bad polling produces bad results.
And remember, with Ron Paul’s army of volunteers, his $5 M is worth $10 M+.

See any yard signs for any one else???
They might bring big bucks on eBay, but not for the reason you are thinking. There are probably more yard signs, roadside signs, etc. for Ron Paul than for all the other candidates put together. They will bring big bucks because they were the signs that caused the biggest political upset in the history of the country.
Do you know of any other candidate that is making money selling yard signs to his supporters???

I'm not a lawyer, maybe one of FRs many will stop by.
A Volunteer Group of Ron Paul Supporters can't be a 501c group, this is clearly candidate rather than issue advocacy.
It would be interesting to know who the donors are? I can't find out much about them. Wonder how they're organized to avoid disclosure?

***Why isnt crazy as a shithouse rat one of the choices?***
Because it doesn’t apply.
Ron Paul will be in the top 3 coming out of Iowa and will win or come in second in NH. That might be enough momentum to carry him in the other early states. Once people feel that he has a legitimate chance, his numbers will swell. Giuliani and Romney have been spending like drunken sailors and the money will not last. Thompson has been a dud. McCain is toast. So it is between Ron Paul and either Giuliani and Romney. I think he can take either one.
