Leader Boehner Calls on Democratic Rep. Stark to Retract Statement, Apologize (SCHIP)
The Drudge Report ^ | Oct 18, 2007 | not specified

Posted on 10/18/2007 7:56:13 PM PDT by RDTF

WASHINGTON, D.C. Ð House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement regarding remarks made on the House floor by Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) during the debate on the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP):

"Our troops in Iraq are fighting against al-Qaeda and other radical jihadists hellbent on killing the people we are sent here to represent. Congressman Stark's statement dishonors not only the Commander-in-Chief, but the thousands of courageous men and women of America's armed forces who believe in their mission and are putting their lives on the line for our freedom and security. Congressman Stark should retract his statement and apologize to the House, our Commander-in-Chief, and the families of our soldiers and commanders fighting terror overseas."

During debate on the SCHIP children's health care legislation today, Rep. Stark stated: "You don't have money to fund the war or children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement."

Pete Stark is one of the biggest flakes in Congress, always has been. He enjoys verbal bomb-throwing too much to retire voluntarily.

Yes, it’s common knowledge that Stark’s insane - he IS a Bay Area atheist democrat after all - but there are some people that are taking he won’t survive this latest rant, his remarks were WAY “out there”, even by Pete’s standards.

According to Pelosi, he’ll get another chance to say it all again in two weeks as she said that’s when the bill will be back.

There are Democrat state legislators in his area who are term-limited. An attack on his effectiveness could work.

Anyone shocked that Stark would say such things doesn’t know the real Pete Stark.

This guy’s “nasty” makes infamous tennis rant-boy Nastase look like a rosy-cheeked altar boy.

Stark’s mind is a Superfund site.

The EPA is trying to get his speech delcared “toxic waste”, but they’re hung up, because if they succeed, they’ll have to encase Stark’s tongue in the bowels of a disused salt mine for the next 1.35 billion years.

If they succeed, they believe they can stop global warming, put Al Gore out of a job, and the rest of us can go on and drive whatever the heck we want.

The envirowhack base is completely MPD over it all.

Pete Stark is an example of a politician out of control...

There is NO LEGAL way to punish a bastard like Stark, except throwing his ass out of office..
The folks in Fremont will continue to elect him, because they are sheeple.

Don’t expect the DNC to censor the foul bastard....

It is PRECISELY fools like Stark who should be legal to challenge to a duel — and handle the insufferable bastard as he deserves to be treated...

Stark will keep on saying outrageous things because he would suffer no consequences....I am not sure when his heavily Dem district will stop electing him...

Nancy Pelosi will not criticize the guy...Why? She may be critized herself for being critical of Stark...

Stark called Louis Sullivan, the HHS secretary for Bush one, “ a disgrace to his race”.

Stark...Consider the source...I just wish he will campaign extensively for Hillary next year...I am sure that he will turn off many Republicans and independents...

Good for Boehner! He and the other pubbies should call this stuff out everytime it happens. Get it on the record that they don't agree, because if they stay quiet it sure sounds like they think it's ok for dims to talk about our soldiers like that.

And we're not supposed to question their patriotism? Bravo Sierra.

This ia just another case of the criminality of the Democrats showing.

I had a chance to hear some of it yesrterday. You folks living in Stark's district ought to be very embarrassed right now.

Stark and his kind don't belong in Washington. they b elong in orange junpsuits behind bars.

I'd like for this sorry lazy miserable good for nothing POS to say so those very same things to Oklahoma National Guard troops that are about to head for Iraq to risk their very lives to keep this nation safe from the real terrorists and see what kind of reaction he gets.

I don't think they'd appreciate it. I know I don't.

You folks in that part of the country can do better than that.

Regards........

Good Morning Folks, I borrowed this letter from another FReepers. It was brillant.

Just wanted to share the letter I sent to 41 Congressman/Congresswomen yesterday evening.

I took the letter they sent to Rush and sent it back to them.

At the time we sign this letter, 3,808 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq, and another 28,009 have been wounded. 160,000 others awoke this morning on foreign sand, far from home, to face the danger and uncertainty of another day at war. Although Americans of goodwill debate the merits of this war, we can all agree that those who serve with such great courage deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. That is why Pete Starks’s recent characterization of troops as “blowing up innocent people” is such an outrage. Our troops are fighting and dying to bring to others the freedoms that many take for granted. It is unconscionable that Mr. Stark would say that our troops are "blowing up innocent people". Mr. Stark has made outrageous remarks before, but this affront to our soldiers is beyond the pale. The military, like any community within the United States, includes members both for and against the war. Senior generals, such as General John Batiste and Paul Eaton, have come out against the war while others have publicly supported it. A December 2006 poll conducted by the Military Times found just 35 percent of service members approved of President Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq, compared to 42 percent who disapproved. From this figure alone, it is clear that Mr. Starks’s insult is directed at thousands of American service members. Active and retired members of our armed forces have a unique perspective on the war and offer a valuable contribution to our national debate. In August, seven soldiers wrote an op-ed expressing their concern with the current strategy in Iraq. Tragically, since then, two of those seven soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq. Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Stark’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments . We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is "blowing up innocent people” We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Stark to apologize for his comments.

Sincerely,
