Republicans Outraged at Stark's Comments (Demand his resignation!)
humanevents.com ^ | 10/18/2007 ET | staff

Posted on 10/19/2007 6:39:11 AM PDT by kellynla

House Republican leaders have publicly called on Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.) to apologize for his comments today regarding American troops in Iraq or resign from his position.

Stark said the following today on the floor of the House (which can be viewed on video here):

“I yield myself two minutes. Madam speaker, I, first of all, I’m just amazed that they can't figure out -- the Republicans are worried that they can't pay for insuring an additional 10 million children. They sure don't care about finding $200 billion to fight the illegal war in Iraq. Where are you going to get that money? Are you going to tell us lies like you're telling us today? Is that how you're going to fund the war? You don't have money to fund the war on children. But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if he can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement.”

He should have resigned years ago. I’m not holding my breath that he’ll do the right thing now.

What an old turd. You know, I would demand his resignation, but I’ll just get another weird fruit out of that district of his, so what’s the difference? The new guy will disparage the troops privately instead of publicly? Not a big improvement to me.

He’ll be more valuable to conservatives and the GOP if he refuses to apologize, and is used as campaign fodder next year prior to the election cycle.

The republicans are wasting their breath, although, I guess that have to make some public comment to counter Stark’s words.

I’ll be honest with you. I don’t want reconciliation with such despicable people as Stark. I don’t consider them American. I don’t consider their viewpoint American.

I want to roll over them, disgrace them, and have the American people totally reject them.

It isn’t really a matter of revenge or censure or anything like that.

It is a war with the haters of America, and I want to win it.

The enemy, in that it controls the media, has a great weapon. The real question is how to counter that weapon or to take it away from them.

We need a media ABM, Star-Wars System.

The Democrat party is so disturbing I can barely even come up with words to describe it nowadays. I have also decided, I am no longer going to call the standing President by their last name only. It is President Bush or President Clinton or President Thompson, whatever. I don’t care if I hate the political agenda or moral values. The President is the President. The Repiblican party need to start setting standards of being Americans again. That should mean all of us.

First off, “Pete” Fortnoy Stark has been one of the most stalwart supporters of the drive to disarm American citizens. He’s been either the author, or early supporter of every gun control bill to go through the house.

Secondly, he’s a thug and a bully. He has a long history of shouting down political opponents, and he threatened physical violence on the floor of the house more than once. He may be best known for his “fruit” comment...

Finally, and this is the one which is most aggregious... A year or two ago, one of his constituents, I believe a National Guard sergeant, left a message for Stark, and his anti-war statements... Well, Stark called the sergeant back and left a nasty message on his answering machine, cursing him out, and calling him far worse than a “phony soldier.” I remember that there was at least one thread on FR, though I don’t think that the media thought that a house member cursing out a retuning vet was worth reporting.

Mark

True enough...but please tell me how many votes a resolution in the House would get to remove him from office? 175? Fewer? And does it require a simple majority or an absolute majority for such a resolution to pass?

Doesn’t work that way. Republicans can’t demand that dems resign. The media will not back them. Dems will ignore them.
But just let any damndem say anything against a Republican, and the fuss and fury is all over the media and you never hear the end of it!

I still prefer Hensarling’s comments. The only one calling for Stark’s resignation, I believe. No, I don’t believe Stark would resign but Libs do this all the time to Republicans. They lose nothing by calling for his resignation. He should resign over this. So call him out, demand he resign, and by doing so make this very clear to the public these sentiments are not acceptable for mainstream thought.

I know Boehner and Blunt are trying, but Hensarling knocked thi one out of the park. Follow his lead on this one.

no resolution needed for removal...
as Tom DeLay can tell you...
you just make things so bad for a representative, like moving his office into the men’s restroom LOL, that they remove themselves...and if the heat is turned up so high on a congress with a 11% approval rating, I predict the 'Rat majority, with Nancy Pelousy as Speaker, will fold like a House of cards! But EVERYONE must burn up the phone lines TODAY and DEMAND HIS RESIGNATION!

Stark is an old left-wing jerk. Of course, Congress is filled with old left-wing jerks.

He was simply a left wing jerk when he first ran for Congress in 1972. In my first, and last, recorded vote in California, I had the pleasure to vote against him.

He's always been rude and condescending.

Let's face it, Congress is filled with jerks on both sides of the aisle, but the vast majority are on the left.

Sure...call the House switchboard and demand his resignation. But don't expect ****anybody**** in a position of authority in the House or at RAT Headquarters to do anything but laugh at such phone calls. When Republicans hold an *absolute* majority of House seats *something* might be done about Starke but don't count on it even then because of "moderate Republicans".

I understand and share your disgust with Starke but the best we can do with his comments, which was suggested earlier in this thread,is to use quotes from him in ads that are run in various "battleground" areas/districts/states starting in about a month.
