These are my real time thoughts on Fred's speech. I think it is safe to say that his and Romney's are the most important for this crowd to hear)
He came in to the strains of Johnny Cash's "I've Been Every Where."
Jerri, Fred, and the family. The crowd went wild.
Then he starts speaking. He begins with a seemingly distracted aside about his daughter not wanting to get off stage. People laugh. But then he revs up.
It's his usual folksy style. Now here is the interesting thing about Fred. As of now, he really hasn't put out a lot of x point plans where x is some number 4 or higher. He's instead put out a list of principles, but his campaign has not really talked about them.
Right now, though, Fred is delving in. He's talking federalism and why it's a good idea and why it's important. He throws in some God references too. The crowd applauds.
Yep. Any day now. It's a comin'. Here it comes. Look out, watch his blitzkrieg. Like a locomotive. (c'mon Fred, work with me here...)
I guess that 2nd in the Rasmussen polls since a few months back is "poorly." What's better, Romney's 3rd or 4th (and not a close 3rd or 4th)? Huckabee's 8% (his peak)? Hunter's 2%? Brownback's 0%?
Just asking.
I neglected to post a link to this on redstate:
http://www.redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/fred_delivers
None. That’s exactly my point.
If you already like someone you’re likely to like what they do.
IOW Fred won’t win or lose many supporters due to a speech. Neither will any other candidate. That was my entire point.
It will take a bit of time - frankly, no one has broken from the pack. However, as the 3rd tier candidates begin to drop out (as Brownback did yesterday), most of their support will likely go toward Fred (they are more conservative than Rudy, McCain is running out of money and will likely drop out before Iowa, and Romney isn't conservative except on taxes). THAT is when the Big Mo will start working in Fred's favor. But, it will take until early next year to really see it.
I read comments like yours, then a day or two later someone comes up with a link and I can hear what he said for myself. Posts like yours are never accurate, for what I believe and think and want.
I really like his speeches, and I don’t like northeast politicians when they speak. They don’t talk like real people.
Fred uses illustrations that I can appreciate and understand [like see it in the rear view mirror, kick the can down the road,....] and I love the substance of what he says. He says important things calmly and lets them sink in. He’s the best to my midwestern ears.
Well, you sure made your POINT!
LOL
I believe this 2-year campign has been wasted because those who have not got a horse in the race, or are not even at the track yet, are the deciding factor.
Getting in the starting gate 2 years before the fans are in the stands is a waste. We've had MSM-for-Hildabeast-campaign-mode going on since the 1990's, and you know how boring that is....
“If you like Fred you like his speeches. If you dont like him you dont like his speeches. Simple as that.”
“Wow....profound. About which candidate, Democrat or Republican, is that statement not applicable?”
I think people who like Fred like stating tautologies.
Thanks for the ping, daylilly.
Someone linked to comments of this speech on another thread, where they spoke of what Fred says he will do the first hour in office. Do you know what that was?
The speech link is too choppy to understand.
Thank you.
I don;t have the exact quote, but it's to the effect of "close the Oval Office doors, get down on my knees, and pray for the wisdom to do what is right... and the strength to carry it out."
Thanks so much, kevkrom.

“He just seems more dead than alive to me, and if other Republicans didnt agree with me, he wouldnt be doing so poorly everywhere. His cancer has sucked the life out of him, IMO.”
He’s been in remission for years. And 2nd place is “doing poorly”?
Poorly in your mind is second in polling usually near 20% in the polls? Yeah, I can see how he’s this great failure.
there are Republicans supporting a guy as Liberal as Hillary, he’s coming in first in the polls. Why should I care what “some” Republicans think about Thompson as a consequence? most of the attacks i see focus on him being “lazy”, or old or having cancer..piddling stuff I expect from democrats.
Anyway, both the right and left have been savagely attacking Thompson and whatever drop he took he’s recovering and whatever leap Rudy took is dwindling according to Rass. meanwhile in the best news I’ve heard in some time Thompson is edging very close to being seen as electable as RUDY. since i would wager at least half voting for rudy are doing so because they don’t want Hillary to win, even though Thompson is seen by them as the most conservative candidate, I’m feeling pretty uplifted here. if rudy loses that claim, the conservatives supporting him could very well jump on thompson’s bandwagon.
though it would certainly help if this Values summitt produced a consensus in his favor.
Most people do not have the same reaction.
Admit it. You’re deliberately being a stinker. Been in 4th grade recently?
Hillary Clinton, for one. She says a lot of things that are incongruent with her positions... things she knows people like to hear. Sometimes she says things I like to hear. But I know that isn't her real position, so I don't like her nearly as much as what she sometimes says.
Meanwhile, the MoveOn crowd dispises some of her speeches. I'm sure there are plenty of winks to them, because they will support her.
If by that, you mean they like consistent, (another word for redundant) statements of obvious truths, I'd have to agree with you. He does show a lack of slipperyness in his positions. Some of the other candidates are much better at muddying up their positions so that it sounds different every time they speak.
“I dont like northeast politicians when they speak. They dont talk like real people.”
So people from the northeast arent real?!? Fugediboutit! :-)
“I dont like northeast politicians when they speak. They dont talk like real people.
So people from the northeast arent real?!”
No, they’re real; they just don’t rise to the level of “people.”
