Pelosi Rebukes Stark for Iraq Comments
Breitbart ^ | 8/19/2007

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rebuked a fellow San Francisco Bay-area liberal Friday for what she said were "inappropriate" comments about Iraq during a congressional debate. During a debate on children's health care Thursday, Rep. Pete Stark accused Republicans of sending troops to Iraq to "get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

Condemnations rolled in from Republican politicians, right-leaning bloggers had a field day, and a White House spokesman declined to "dignify those remarks" with a response.

Pelosi issued a statement Friday evening rapping Stark, who is in his 18th term representing the liberal East Bay. He's California's longest-serving House members.

"While members of Congress are passionate about their views, what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand—providing health care for America's children," Pelosi said.

Stark's comment came as the House failed Thursday to override President Bush's veto of legislation to expand the popular State Children's Health Insurance Program.

"You don't have money to fund the war or children," Stark accused Republicans. "But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

After numerous Republicans called on him to apologize, Stark said it was they who should be apologizing, for failing to provide the votes to override Bush's veto.

Asked for a White House response Friday, spokesman Tony Fratto said: "I see absolutely no reason to dignify those remarks with a comment."

But a very weak rebuke IMO...”inappropriate” and “distracting” aren’t rebuke words.

Should have phrased it MUCH stronger and has said it earlier. This was no rebuke.

So Stark’s lies are more offensive than Pelosi’s lies?

No less than Stark’s resignation should be accepted.

If she’d quite trying to please the DUmmies so much, she wouldn’t get herself in these twisted knots to begin with. She’s pulling a political hat trick out of here -— in order to embarass the president on healthcare provision to children. I believe this program was just started in the last few years, and now she and her minions demand us to expand it. Hell no Nancy. This is why have you such a hard time getting anything done. It’s never enough.

You and your idiot minions that this was going to be a back door entrance to full blown socialist healthcare. Well, here’s to hoping it won’t be.

Pelosi’s resignation along with Starks is appropriate. They’ve both disgraced themselves and this nation. Two morons that deserve each other.

This just hasn’t been a good week for Pelosi or Reid.

May they all be like this week.

She’s definitely trying to bury it quickly before it rolls into the Sunday political shows. We’ll have to see if we can keep the ‘legs’ on it until Monday.

That was mild compared to what she would have said if they thought there would be no repercussion.

For you and I, no. For the dems’ base? This will make Stark their latest hero while at the same moment sinking their opinion of Pelosi and this Dem Congress.

Hey Nance, fess up and admit what you are really angry at: that Stark let the mask slip and he showed everyone who you Socialist-Democrat moon bats really are.

Very weak and not a rebuke, I agree. Can you imagine if this had been said by a Republican if a Dim was in the White House? All hell would break loose.

“Pelosi’s resignation along with Starks is appropriate. They’ve both disgraced themselves and this nation. Two morons that deserve each other.”

There is no excuse for any representative to demean the Office of the President with statements such as “having their heads blown off for the amusement of the President”.

This guy has to go, and yes Pelosi also, especially after her attempt to turn Turkey against us, just so our success in Iraq could be undermined for the benefit of giving her fellow Democrats “talking points” in the coming elections.

It is real clear that the Democrats don’t give a hoot about how many of our brave soldiers are killed, just as long as they “gain power”. Disgusting.

Pelosi said, "Stark's comments...inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand...children's health care."

(Leading me to believe and know that she liked his hate speech but the timing was wrong)

The maggot ignored the fact that Stark's hateful comments may have caused hurt feelings for brave military men and women and their families.

Verdict... not a rebuke!!!

Stark should be asked to resign by our presently spineless Republican Senators and Congressmen and Congresswomen.
