What Would a Ron Paul Presidency Really Be Like?

Posted on 10/20/2007 1:49:17 PM PDT by no nau

True to his word, Ron Paul abolishes the IRS, the CIA, the border patrol, and calls all military personnel stateside to serve as border guards.

Problems immediately start to arise. The income tax code is still law, but with no enforcement agency, people soon just stop paying taxes. Congress tries to implement supplementary measures, but ultimately enforcement is the duty of the Executive and the Paul Administration has announced they will pursue no enforcement of income or payroll tax collection.

The US government goes bankrupt in the first year of the Paul Presidency. Social Security and Medicare benefits cease to be provided. Many of the old and disabled are forced to steal to survive. However, with the Paul Presidency endorsing the right of property owners to kill on sight such plunderers, hundreds of such people are killed each day.

Meanwhile, the military cannot be funded. There is no money for logistics -- much less for member benefits. The Congress is forced to enact conscripted service legislation which Ron Paul signs (perhaps he realizes a veto will be overridden anyway). However, these conscripted members are given almost no pay or benefits and are working as virtual slaves. Military moral is at a horrific low, of course, and corruption, chaos, and desertion being the rule in the military. There is no ability of the military to accomplish its only duty under a Paul Presidency -- serve as border guards.

Meanwhile, Islamic militantism is emboldened. They step up attacks around the world. In the second year of the Paul Presidency, they sneak suitcase nukes into New York and Washington DC and detonate them. Hundreds of thousands of lives are lost with untold others critically injured. The hospitals have already been overrun with the Paul Presidency destitute seeking benefits, and have no way to deal with the injured. An already severely crippled country descends into complete chaos. A Ron Paul goal has been accomplished. There is effectively no federal government.

The Nation fractures into local ad hoc governments and is overrun with foreign squatters. Many areas of the former US have been claimed by militant Islamics who institute Sharia law. The federal government has no power and is merely a figurehead institute. Ron Paul proclaims that this what the founding fathers envisioned and his job is done.

Good to see you have such faith in the citizens of the respective states. What color is the sky in your world that even if the federal government dissolved completely (which it wouldn't under Dr. Paul's leadership) that the citizens themselves wouldn't stand up to these crazed Islamic groups (which are about as evident as the flying pig just outside my window)? Have all our guns been taken mysteriously overnight?

Considering these Islamic groups will not have access to major military equipment, and no ability to transport major numbers over here either, how exactly are they going to do it?

Exactly,

1. The CIA and IRS would still exist as Congress would still fund them and any Paul veto would be over ridden.

2. If Paul refused to enforce the law for example to pay social security or collect taxes, he would be impeached and removed as he should be.

Hey Rupert, long time no chat. How is that new channel coming along.. you know, the business channel that brainwashes to think that big business is a good thing and secretly funds the military industrial complex?

Suggest you read his writings, and watch his speeches which are available on Youtube. It’s worth the time to find out why he’s so-well loved.

I’ve read his writing and speeches and it is a bunch of rhetoric with no detail. He talks more than a woman. Like a lot of things though, it is how we say here in Texas, all hat, no saddle.

But what do you expect from a moderate libertarian who tries to be all things to all people..

But his open borders policy would make the problems with illegal immigration even worse. There isn’t a problem out there that isn’t made worse by illegal immigration: murders, deaths cause by drunken driving, overcrowded schools having to provide special teachers for the children of illegal immigrants, welfare, hospitals used as free clinics, ad nauseum.

That's what we need - a politician we can looove. Oh, I'm getting tingly - where's the voting booth, I need privacy.

He does not have an open borders policy. That’s a myth. You have to read his comments very carefully on that matter. He wants to close the border, but he understands that welfare entitlements for aliens are what is drawing and keeping illegal aliens here. He would definitely do better with border security than any of the current candidates except for Hunter and Tancredo, and they would be much weaker on the fiscal aspects of the problem.

Yea, but drugs would be legal so we could all get stoned....

Drugs are already illegal and people are still getting stoned. (BTW - Paul's not in favor of legalizing drugs just decriminalizing marijuana and hemp at the federal level and let states write their own laws) What's your point?

Luckily, most of the nutty things Paul wants to do would have to originate in congress, not the executive.

Then you have nothing to worry about, right?

I'm sorry. I missed the magic show where Ron Paul became the Constitution.

There you all go again...read his comments. guess what, actions talk, BS walks, and Paul over and over has voted against securing our border.. all the comments in the world doesn't change reality.. but if you do like to follow his comments instead of his votes.. how about when he said 'a border fence isn't that important...'?

I Ron Paul's world, little speeches can change everything.. how naive.

Show us how any of the other candidates drive their core values out of the original intent behind the Constitution. I very rarely hear them mention the Constitution at all. When they do, they’re often misreading it.

More than likely several revolutionary committees formed in the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions would rise up and begin a Reconquista.

Initially the East Coast would be written off, but once the New Confederacy (formed of 6 key Southern states) had completed the wrap-up of the Southwest and Mexican border areas, the East would be rapidly purged of any remnant federalists who hadn't had the good sense to flee to Canada.

And so on and so forth. Really now, Manifest Destiny wasn't based on a wish, but rather on the firm ground of geographic determinism. American exists because the Central South and the Midwest exist.

..actually, the parts I disagree most with are items that originate in the executive, ie, his commander in chief responsibility. If I was voting for a speecher in chief, I would consider Paul, but I'm not, I'm voting for a commander in chief...

just like he did funding for the Trans Texas Corridor (first leg of the NAU highway)

ROFL. That money was already allocated as part of Texas' share of federal highway funds. Paul has no control over how Texas applies it. Get back to me if he specifically earmarked the money for the TTC.

I don’t think you have to worry about how he’d do anything. The only way Paul gets into the Oval Office is as a visitor.
