UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

Yeah we at Cali freeper ping list mention that crib of Mel Gibson might be threated
I hear Castle burn down Castle is famous landmark that celebrities used for party and stuff
Pepperdine students are being told to immediately gather in the auditorium.
Wow, is this the first thread on this? I am slow to get to the topic, only learned of this 8:20 this a.m.
Sure reminds me of 1993.
One mile west of Pepperdine, eh?
And I thought only the Cuyahoga caught on fire! Whod’a thunk the Pacific ocean could too?
Do the writers for the LA Times ghost write from Cleveland?
Who is it that keeps the CA ping list... I can’t seem to get on it.
I don’t think there is one list. Everyone who tries to corral one ends up with half a dozen interested people and no more.
No wonder, then...:)
Typical for the free-stylin’ CA way of life!
I wonder if some of the stuff from the Las Vegas Elvis museum went there? Yikes.
Actually I meant the State ping list our state ping list but there is cali ping list but I don’t know who run it
Oh that is just horrible!
It looks like a piece of history is given up to flames. How sad.
That’s okay, sweetie, thanks... I’ll figure it out.
That’s one way to put it..... ;)
On Fox it appears that a house right on the beach is burning!
That is an LA City Fire chopper dropping on the house. That is usually a no no, but that house is lost, and they are trying to knock it down to prevent spread.
There is very little water pressure in that area...if more than a couple engines tap the hydrants, the water is gone....
This can happen. That’s how Ali McGraw lost her home...
Thanks, Ernest, I’ll check that link and if you’d like to add me to your CA pings...?
There is update they repoting on MSNBC right that all morning classes in Pepperine universtiy are going be cancel
NO KIDDING I think also evening classes LOL!
OK...I’ll add you...
CBS(channel 2 ) is showing that home,...apparently lit up by flying embers and it is quite a distance from the brush fire.,...
Oh Sure embers are falling onto roofs.....might take the whole neighborhood if they dont knock them down.....like I said...very low water pressure in Malibu.....
It looks like more than one is burning now!
Thats because the city council put water saver fire hydrates in last year
West is South there.
Remember all the talk about the “Super Scooper” during the 1993 fire? What ever came of that?
Malibu is along the south-facing stretch of coastline, at the north end of Santa Monica Bay.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - Two Los Angeles area wildfires are causing worries this morning.
A 50-acre blaze near the Pacific Coast Highway is threatening Pepperdine University and the Malibu Crest neighborhood. L.A. County fire officials say it has burned at least 50 acres.
In the northeastern part of the county, 50 mile-per-hour winds and dry conditions have been stoking a blaze in the Angeles National Forest. Authorities say that fire has consumed about 500 acres.
Fire officials are focused on protecting a town in Ventura County about five miles west of the blaze. A Forest Service spokesman says the fire could threaten homes to the south and southwest by the end of the day if the fires continues to move that direction. Picture courtesty of CBS5
LOL... Pepperdine has come so close to being burned at least twice before.
Ch. 5 showing a beachfront home burning.
Some woman on KABC TV was just talking about the museum-level quality collection that burned this morning. It included million-dollar Venetian chandeliers, Elvis Presley furniture, personal notes from Ronald Reagan, Nixon, Princess Di, etc. More structures are on fire all over Malibu.
Super Scooper comes around on occasion (it’s based in Canada I think?) but the winds are so bad today, nothing’s flying.
From channel 2 ....First Tanker now just arriving.....Airtankers out of Hemet...I think I heard....
Geez, I hope they got at least some of the stuff out of there!
That is tragic.
WOWWW now being reported on another news outlet the fire jump the street on PCH
What’s transfixing (is that a word?) is how *fast* it’s moving.
Don’t forget everyone, 500+ acres are burning uncontrolled at Castaic right now. There was a fire at Porter Ranch/Northridge, but it’s contained around 20 acres.
This fire is hellbent on destruction.
Watching that castle burn on one of the feeds was just heartbreaking.
Thanks for the Great Graphics....
Ugh. Oh that’s bad.
But Lanie that is just the common people Malibu is much more important
