UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

A little piece of trivia while you have the map out: in the late 60’s, during the Laguna fire, the head blew through Pine Valley in the mid-evening, then into wildland to the southwest of it. At dawn the next morning, it was discovered in Lyons. Everybody was caught by surprise by that huge move in such a short period of time. Witch, on the other hand, has been somewhat predictable, as has Harris.
ROFL!!
Now I know where it is at. Thank you!
Ehhh, I'm a lifer ;-)
Good call!
NBC TV San Diego just related what you said. Also the fires are still burning west of I-5 and there is a lot of smoke crossing the freeway. There still is fire and smoke underneath the electrical transmission lines. Authorities may have to close I-5 again later today.
Also at one point today only one transmission line (from the North was available for San Diego County.
Lastly -Mexico- is helping to provide electricity from the South.
Authorities are still asking for conservation efforts from all users in the area.
FWIW - For the last two days I have maintained that I-5 and the power situation will be major problems. Hopefully these two assets can be maintained, but I think the nuke plant is going to have to go offline in a day or two.
The official announces that after the press conference, the LAC will be OFF-LIMITS to the press and media to give the residents privacy as they request assistance from government (FEMA), insurance companies, supplies, etc.
the lights/power here in southeast Orange County has been flickering all day (the lights flicker like the power is going out, but they stay on). I’m sure every air conditioner in the area is running.
the nuke plant is offline
How far north does that plant service? Do ya know?
Me too!
And you know, somehow, somewhere, there are groups sitting around sending out healing energy to the affected areas.
There's no place like home! :-)
The LAC will be a one-stop area for building permits, assessor office for land valuation, etc. (County supervisor called out the assessor/clerk for his antics in offering to sell wedding rings along with a marriage license!).
I would worry about short and term term damage to appliances and electronics from the dirty power and low voltage you are experiencing.
Personally I would disconnect or at least turn off anything I can. Computer users with a UPS should be OK as the battery makes an effective electronic filter.
“the nuke plant is offline”
Hmmmm...Nothing here,

Amen to that!!!!
In political news related to the fire, Ann Romney cancels her trip to southern CA. One of her sons and his family live in San Diego.
No word if Maria canceled her Woman’s Conference in southern CA.
Due to the wildfires devastating the Southern California area, Mrs. Romney has rescheduled her events for Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th to a later date.
Upon canceling these events, Mrs. Romney issued the following statement to the people of California:
“Our hearts go out to the many Californians that have been affected by these tragic fires. As we mourn for those who have lost their lives and comfort those who have been injured, and for the thousands who have lost their homes, we hope and pray that these fires can be quickly brought under control. The bravery and commitment to duty demonstrated by the firefighters and first responders is truly a testament to the fact that there are heroes among us every day.
“In the course of visiting our son and my brother in California, Mitt and I have always been struck by the strength of character of California’s residents. Californians have faced these types of natural disasters in the past and have demonstrated the strength and determination to persevere and rebuild their homes and lives. The families affected by these fires and the courageous public servants fighting the fires will be in the thoughts and prayers of the Romney family.”
I think this is a critical time of day for electricity.
I’m going to power down....
LOS ANGELES, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Southern California wildfires moved 6 miles closer Wednesday to two nuclear reactors at the San Onofre power plant in northern San Diego County, but the utility that operates it says it is not in imminent danger.
“The fire does not pose a threat to the plant itself,” said Gil Alexander, spokesman for Southern California Edison (EIX.N: Quote, Profile , Research).
A fire at Camp Pendleton to the south of the only nuclear power plant in Southern California is about a mile from offices on the outskirts of the San Onofre property, but it is not that close to the two reactors, Alexander said.
Both of the reactors at the plant are not in operation due to maintenance work that began before the fires sparked on Sunday.
Some 1,300 homes have been lost in San Diego County, the most critical area, and an official estimated damages would exceed $1 billion.
The two reactors at San Onofre can make about 2,250 megawatts of power, enough to serve about 1.4 million homes.
All nonessential office workers at San Onofre were told not to come to work on Wednesday but maintenance work on the two reactors continued and the schedule for their return has not been changed, Alexander said.
Transmission lines from the San Onofre plant into the SCE service area to the north of the plant are operating and not under imminent threat from fire, he said

Thank you for that update. I really appreciate it!
That is why they are imported from Mexico.
Of course, with 1 million people not at home, or not at work, that has reduced usage.
I bet have the smoke is from the oil burning plants in Tijuana.
(just kidding I think)
Just so long as we’ve border circuit control to prevent any illegal electrons from sneaking on pass; tired of how the illegal electron problem is always shoved to the rear of the news...
Ok, fine, fine, my humor’s a bit off today. You may now point finger and laugh in a superior manner.
No problem : )
CNN reporting a major blackout in the area was just averted by seconds. New system brought online just as the other went out.
no, we already had the 3 illegals trying to steal stuff at qualcomm....what could be next. they will have rolling black outs the rest of the week, or they have to tell people not to work til they repair some lines.

The state grid operator says San Diego’s major east-west electric transmission line has returned to service, reducing the threat of blackouts that would have added to the county’s woes as it struggles with wildfires.
The California Independent System Operator said the Southwest Power Link was returned to service around 2:30 p.m. The line is capable of providing up to 1,750 megawatts of electricity, or more than half of expected demand in the region.
The link imports electricity from electric generating plants in Mexico and Arizona.
The transmission line was knocked out of service by the Harris fire on Sunday, leaving San Diego Gas & Electric almost entirely dependent on local generating facilities to satisfy the power demand of its 1.4 million customers.
Fire fighters and utility officials say the region’s main north-south electric transmission lines connection continue to be threatened by the blazes that have erupted at Camp Pendleton and have operated at only partial capacity through much of the past 24 hours.
New fire at Camp Pendleton

Pour a little bleach down the kitchen drains too. Oh and if you have carpet, do a couple of swipes with the vacuum. Just enough to leave some vacuum cleaner tracks.

Duncan Hunter says the C130s were sent to dump on Camp Pendleton to drop after there were sitting on the runway at Hueneme and still had not received orders from CalFire.
Ridiculous.
Also says military only has 12 bambi buckets.....those helos are also being using on Pendleton.

Amid worries of new blazes adding to the firestorm already afflicting the region, a man in Hesperia has been arrested on suspicion of arson, and police reported shooting and killing another arson suspect after chasing him out of scrub behind Cal State San Bernardino.
Law enforcement officials said today that they didn’t know whether either of the men had started any of the more than a dozen large fires that have devastated Southern California in recent days, including the nearby Lake Arrowhead blaze. The brush fire in Hesperia was quickly extinguished by residents.
Investigators have said that at least two of the huge wildfires, one in Orange County and the other in Temecula, were the work of arsonists.
The confrontation that ended in the shooting death started about 6 p.m. Tuesday when San Bernardino university police spotted a man in a rural area of flood channels and scrub near the campus. University police tried to detain the man, but he got into his car and fled, authorities said. When he began to ram officers’ vehicle, they shot him.
The suspect is described as a 27-year-old man with a home address in Arizona. Sheriff’s investigators will search his impounded pickup truck pending a search warrant, Lt. Scott Patterson of the San Bernardino Police Department said this afternoon.
Local TV reports talking to North Island - they had more helos and buckets sitting there ready to fly ...
But they were only allowed to launch 2 yesterday, 2 more most of today, finally added one more this afternoon
... the rest are still sitting
Thanks:)
Interesting..
Just heard 4 more LACFD strike teams being dispatched to Kit Carson Park Escondido
Killed by whom?
Roger Hedgecock, on KOGO also mentioned this an hour ago on his talk show...stated there are 14 of these waiting, sitting on the tarmac.
Cal State University Police....probably by an officer working nearly straight since Sunday.
That campus has always had a lot of arsons in the area.
Ha. Duncan Hunter just handed Chris Matthews his lunch on Hardball. I’ve never heard so many inane questions in my life, and Hunter handled it very well.
I should’ve been vacuuming and not reading.....
Thanks for the link. If those officers are reprimanded for this, whoever DOES so, will be strung up.
I’d hope.
The fire designations may be correct, but those images of the North County area are over a year old. There has been a lot of building completed in the area that doesn’t show up at all. I see areas of groomed land w/o structures where new developments have been finished for some time.
