“Finneran was down 16 percent; Feinburg was down 7 percent and Carr was down 39 percent in that demographic.”

I’m assuming that Howie’s numbers were due to his “vacations?

“Todd Feinberg in for Howie,,,,,,,,,,yet again”

How long are they gonna keep this up?

Howie was taking a ton of vacation before the supposed WTKK switch, now he is still off several weeks later.

Pee-Wee Herman should have his own show.

All he did was a quick peep-show wank.

Speaking of Barnicle, Severin is having Dan Shaughnessy as a guest every day this week.

He introduces him as “a fine fellow” or something else just as ridiculous.

I think Todd is getting fed up with filling in and the nonsense that comes with it......last week or the week before Sandy out and out lied and said that HOWIE was on “vacation”, a caller had inquired about Howie’s whereabouts, Todd said something like, nope don’t know where he is, Sandy have you seen Howie around and that’s when Sandy lied and said he was on vacation visiting his dad in the Carolinas.

Yikes...he used to latch on to Barnicle’s old WTKK show (as
did Bob Lobel). Shaughnessy can be good at times (as a writer)
but the CHB (Curly Headed Boyfriend) can be irritating to
some on the radio. As the sound cut WEEI used to play goes,
“Shaughnessy...get a life!”

Howie may have taken a trip down there for a couple days because there was no column on Sunday, etc (right after the
latest volley in the legal war). It’s poss. Sandy lied
but it’s also poss. maybe he did take a trip down there.
Who knows.

he was burning off vacation time from Entercom in
anticipation of starting the new job at WTKK. THAT
hasn’t come through...yet. And now the “vacation” is
him benching himself. he does not want to work for
Entercom any more.

So, I figure this “Ray” who calls every day must be Todd’s agent. :-).

Today’s Howie column

Fussy lot of Brits aren’t too fussed about Whitey
By Howie Carr | Friday, October 26, 2007 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

Follow the safe-deposit boxes.

So now the feds are back in the United Kingdom, tracking Whitey Bulger, the elusive serial killer and kingpin of “a notorious organised crime group,” as the Brits spell it. In case you were wondering, by the way, Whitey “grew up in a poor suburb of Boston.” Southie is a suburb - who knew?

Anyway, the search now seems concentrated on countries where Whitey is known to have stashed cash in bank safe-deposit boxes. First Whitey, or some guy who looks like him and who’s never bothered to step up and end the confusion, is spotted last spring in Italy - where one of his safe-deposit boxes was discovered.

Now the G-men are back in Great Britain, where he had a safe-deposit box in Picadilly. That one contained $50,000 cash and a key in it to another safe-deposit box, in Ireland.

Granted, the cops are “baffled,” as they used to say, and have been for almost 13 years now. But the only places the leads ever seem to be credible are in the locations where Whitey had a box.

I spoke yesterday to someone who was involved more than 20 years ago in procuring yet another bank safe-deposit box for Whitey. He lived in a city far from Boston, and Whitey, not yet a fugitive, was visiting.

“He said he wanted to open a box, and would I put my name on it, since I had a bank account, obviously, and he wasn’t from the area,” the guy recalled. “He said he just needed to keep some personal things in the box, for when he was in town. I mean, I knew he always carried a lot of cash, but I had no idea what he was up to. The box just started . . . filling up.”

Later, the guy had to move suddenly, and he went down to the bank to retrieve Whitey’s possessions. Imagine his surprise when he discovered the box was stuffed with cash, even more than was stashed at the Barclay’s Bank branch in London.

After Whitey became a fugitive, this guy spent some quality time fielding questions from the feds, and nothing ever happened to him.

You have to wonder how much money Whitey’s got left, and where, even though it’s been estimated that he and his galpal Catherine Greig could stay on the lam indefinitely in Europe on $100,000 a year.

The Times of London ran a priceless quote yesterday from one of the FBI agents warning the people of Britain about the archfiend Bulger:

“As well as being violent he is charismatic and along with the woman will get people’s trust and loyalty and that is one of the indicators for people to focus on - this man and woman will befriend you and win your trust.”

In other words, if you ever run into anyone in the UK who is pleasant to you, call Scotland Yard immediately.

The Brits, however, seem to have only minimal interest in hunting down the kindly old couple. Scotland Yard told the newspaper “an officer” met with the FBI, but that they are “not providing any active assistance to the US investigation.”

The English may be keeping a stiff upper lip about the Bulger affair, but over here we still care. I got a letter last week, actually a copy of something sent to another columnist who’d described one of Whitey’s boys as a stand-up guy. The writer disagreed more than somewhat, going back to three 1975 murders.

“Who could lure Buddy Leonard out to get in Tommy King’s car?” he asked. “Who delivered his boyhood chum Paulie McGonagle to Whitey? You can write what you want, but people in Southie know what (the ex-friend of Whitey) is and it ain’t stand-up by any means.”

What was it that William Faulkner said? The past isn’t dead, it isn’t even past.

That goes double with Whitey Bulger, at least as long as he’s still on the lam.

ha :)
Phantom Gourmet also has an ad in today’s Herald saying that
“Boston has been waiting for a major announcement by Howie Carr. He’ll make it this Saturday on the Phantom Gourmet”.
It listed the times it’s on Ch 38 (10 am and 5 pm) but
I don’t think WTKK was mentioned (WTKK carries a radio
version of Phantom 5-7 pm Wednesdays)

Note that when you click on the pic of Howie it takes
you to the Kowloon’s site.
Also in today’s Herald: Michael Graham of WTKK said
that the reason Deval is endorsing Obama is due to
the fact that he’s black. The gov. is not pleased.

In a related development, tartar sauce is now at $92 a barrel.

Ah :) btw I think there’s one place where you have to pay extra for tar-tar sauce, and that’s at Woodman’s on Rt 133
in Essex (supposedly where the fried clam was invented).
I think you pay a quarter for each container of it and
the proceeds get donated to charity.

good place for fried clams: Beverly House of Pizza
just over the Beverly-Salem bridge (on the left as you
get off the bridge on the Beverly side). I think it’s
$13 or so for a clam plate but you get a fairly decent
amount of clams plus greek salad & dressing, fries,
and a few onion rings.
