Are Some Men Predisposed To Pedophilia?
ScienceDaily (Oct. 23, 2007) — Height may point to a biological basis for pedophilia, according to new research released by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). The study found that pedophilic males were shorter on average than males without a sexual attraction to children.
The study, published in Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment, suggests that pedophiles may have been exposed to pre-birth conditions that affected their physical development. The researchers observed this height difference by analyzing the files of over 1,000 men who were assessed for pedophilia or other sexual disorders between 1995 and 2006 at the Kurt Freund Laboratory in Toronto, Canada.
A difference in average height is a trait found in other illnesses with biological links. The average difference in height was two centimeters, which is similar to the shorter height associated with schizophrenia or Alzheimer's disease.
Further research is necessary, but this finding re-enforces evidence that pedophilia has a biological cause, possibly related to brain development before birth.
"This research does not mean that pedophiles are not criminally responsible for their behavior," said Dr. James Cantor, CAMH Psychologist and lead researcher on the study, "but the discovery of biological markers for pedophilia has important implications for future study and possibly treatment."
This study adds to previous research from this team that found pedophiles have lower IQs, are three times more likely to be left-handed, failed school grades significantly more frequently, and suffered more head injuries as children.

But seriously...this could be a troubling report if criminal defense attorneys begin to raise this issue as a mitigating factor.

I saw a thing recently which said that an emerging trend among defense lawyers when defending a murder suspect is to arrange a CT scan and/or an MRI of the brain.The results are turned over to a "medical expert" who testifies that the "abnormalities" found in the scans explain why the guy killed 7 people and tore out their livers and because of the "abnormalities" the defendant absolutely cannot be held legally responsible for his actions.

The biological part seems pretty tenuous. I would think that it would be more likely to have a basis in socialization and personal relationships that are impaired by being short. Other than being a jockey, I can’t think of any situation in our culture where shortness is desirable.
Perhaps those that are short learn that shortness=vulnerability and they choose to victimize the one group that is, by their measure, inferior to them.

This is just more crap about “sexual preference genes”. If they find that pedophiles are biologically pedophiles then it’s poof that sex drive is not a choice. This kind of stuff is just to add fuel to homosexuality is not a lifestyle but a biological reality, so therefor they should be treated just as we would treat another race.
Don’t know about height but I am quite sure there is an ideological factor here. Most pedophiles are probably liberal democrats.
Women also like taller guys. Could inability to get a date with an adult woman also be one factor in pedophilia? Clearly, it wouldn’t be the only factor, but perhaps it plays some role.

Anyone here watch the “To Catch A Preditor” series on MSNBC? The men in that sting appeared to come from all walks of life, and were of various heights and body types.
In every case I can recall, the defendants were of short stature, often immature in appearance, quite often noticeably "child like" themselves.

May 27, 2002 — Roughly one in seven gay men may owe his sexual orientation to the fact he has older brothers, say U of T researchers.
Earlier studies have shown that each additional older brother increases the odds of homosexuality in a younger brother. “This phenomenon, known as the fraternal birth order effect, was first shown by Professor Ray Blanchard [of U of T’s Department of Psychiatry and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health] and has since been confirmed by other scientists,” says CAMH post-doctoral fellow James Cantor. Cantor is co-author of a new study to determine the proportion of gay men whose sexual orientation is due to this effect. “This latest study demonstrates just how important that link is,” says Cantor.
In their study, Cantor and colleagues from U of T and CAMH applied statistical analysis to data collected from a sample of 302 gay men and 302 heterosexual men about the number of siblings each had. According to the researchers, the sexual orientation of about 15 per cent of gay men in the sample could be attributed to the older brother effect. Their analysis also suggests that, in the theoretical case of a boy with two-and-a-half older brothers, he would be twice as likely to be gay as a boy with no older brothers.
The study does not determine a cause of the correlation between homosexuality and having older brothers. However, there is growing evidence in other research that it may be pre-natal in nature, based on findings that gay men with older brothers tend to weigh less at birth than straight men with older brothers.
Published in the February 2002 issue of the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, the study was funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation and the Ministry of Health.

Do these “scientists” have an agenda, like Kinsey did, and if their heads were measured, would there be a statistically significant extension of the points on their heads of 2 centimeters?
