A Hero Will be Laid to Rest Tomorrow in Arlington(10/24/07)

Walter Lee Keesceker, my uncle, will be laid to rest tomorrow in Arlington National Cemetery. The service starts at 9AM. I do know he was a member of the Utah GOP Party I remember looking at all of his party cards he had.

His obit:

Walter Lee (Bobby) Keesecker 72, of Layton, Utah and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va, died August 10, 2007 at the University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born February 4, 1935 in Martinsburg, WV, He was a member of the Moler Avenue Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Clearfield Veterans of Foreign War.

He was married for 49 years to his beloved wife who passed away in 2004. A sister and two half-brothers, also preceded him in death.

Walter retired as CWO4, the highest enlisted rank given by the United State Army, in 1987 after 35 years of service, during which he served numerous tours in Germany and two tours in Viet Nam for which he received a Legion of Merit Medal, two Bronze Star Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Med-al, Vietnam Service Medal w/Silver and Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct and Occupation Medals.

Upon military retirement he served for 5 years as Director of Logistics, for the U.S. State Department at the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, an agency for international development where he coordinated the United States responses to world disasters.

He is survived by his daughter and husband and two grandsons, a sister, and husband and a number of nieces and nephews

Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. on 24 Oct at 9:00. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name are suggested to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202 or your local unit of the American Cancer Society designated for research.

I noticed that your Uncle also had to battle leukemia, they should have medals for that. God Bless you, your Uncle and the other members of the family , who supported his time in the service to our Country.

However, the obit does not pay proper respect to your loved one.

Chief Warrant Officer Four is not an enlisted rank. He was an officer. And in 1987 when he retired, CWO4 was the highest rank of the Warrant Officer Corps.
