McCain Mocks Clinton's Woodstock Project
Breitbart ^ | 10/24/2007 | PHILIP ELLIOTT

Posted on 10/24/2007 1:09:32 PM PDT by Responsibility2nd

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Republican John McCain contrasts images of Woodstock and his years as a Vietnam prisoner of war in a new television ad that pokes fun at Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The commercial, set to air on New Hampshire television Thursday, decries a proposal, since scrapped, to spend $1 million for a museum in Bethel, N.Y., site of the August 1969 rock festival. Clinton and her fellow New York senator, Chuck Schumer, had backed the plan.

The ad highlights McCain's criticism of excessive Washington spending, reminds voters of the Arizona senator's decorated war record and also shows off his humor.

"A few days ago, Senator Clinton tried to spend $1 million on the Woodstock concert museum," McCain says in the ad, drawn from Sunday's debate on Fox News.

"Now my friends, I wasn't there. I'm sure it was a cultural and pharmaceutical event," he says as images of the crowd and dancing concertgoers are shown. Republican presidential rival Rudy Giuliani, his head thrown back, is shown laughing at the joke during the debate.

Then, the images shift to footage of McCain as a POW in Vietnam.

"I was tied up at the time," he says amid grainy black-and-white shots of a younger McCain strapped to a bed. A Navy pilot, McCain was shot down in 1967 and spent 5 1/2 years in a North Vietnamese prison.

During the debate, McCain's line earned him a standing ovation.

The 30-second ad is the latest to feature McCain's POW biography. The images reinforce McCain's argument that he is the most able to serve as commander in chief.

McCain then returns to his criticism of spending run amok, saying the museum plan is an example of what is wrong in Washington.

"No one can be president of the United States that supports projects such as these," he says.

McCain has it exactly right. The way to defeat the loons on the left is to hold them out for ridicule and show them up for the wackos they really are.

The replayed that moment on Fox News. Carl Cameron noted the strong response it got, crediting that response as respect for McCain’s service. But I think the response was more a realization in the audience that the contrast — Clinton wanting to build a museum celebrating one of the milestones in the degradation of our culture, with McCain suffering for and serving our country — encapsulates so well the fundamental difference between the parties.

I watched McCain say this live during the debate and thought it was terrific.

It almost made want to vote for the man, but then I remembered among many things:
McCain - Feingold CFR
Shamnesty
Evangelical leaders as "agents of intolerance"
The torture amendment
Stabbing the President in the back

Guess not John McCain, GOP turncoat, sorry these bastards put you in prison for 5 1/2 years but you lost my vote years ago.

One million bucks for a Woodstock museum?

How is that going to help the starving children with no health care that Clinton wants so desperately to help (but Bush won’t let her)?

I have said this before and have even posted a vanity on this, do not sleep on McCain. He has the most compelling story, he can hammer Hillary with impunity because of his time in the Hanoi Hilton and he is a true war hero unlike JFnK.

do not sleep on McCain.

McCain forgot the most important part of running for POTUS,

You have to win the primaries, to do that you need to have a conservative base to vote for you.

Since he repeatedly stabbed his conservative base in the back, I would sleep.

He has the most compelling story, he can hammer Hillary with impunity because of his time in the Hanoi Hilton and he is a true war hero unlike JFnK.

Very true, but he won't be the nominee

You may be right, but when voter think Rudy is too liberal and Huckabee is a nanny stater and mitt is kinda phony it could be between Fred and McCain. Wait and see if McCain doesn’t start looking a lot better to people.
