This is the puddle where a heroic act of lifesaving occured that evening.
While I was not witness to the actual event, Mr Trooprally filled me in on the details later: During one of the downpours, our fearless leader Kristinn saw a moth helplessly flailing about in a large puddle at the entrance to Walter Reed (see photo above). With no concern for his own safety, he waded out into the aformentioned puddle until he came upon the hapless creature. Having though through the rescue attempt beforehand, he had armed himself with a leaf which he would use as a lifesaver Gently lifting the poor fellow from danger, he carried it to safety where it was revived. It is not known whether any mouth-to-mouth resuscitation was required.
It is believed that the moth will make a full recovery and go on to live a productive life.
Honor Role of Attendees
Tom the Redhunter, Cindy-true-Supporter, PrezUSA222, VictoryNY, BillF, Lurker Bill, Fraxinus, MacCombBob, Mr Trooprally, Ingrid and Eric, Patrick, Amanda, Jerry, Jessica, and Mr and Mrs Red, White & Blue
Patrick, Amanda, Jerry, and Jessica came over from Catholic University as friends of PrezUSA222.
MacComb Bob is from Michigan and was in town for a convention. He said that he's been following our FReeps on the website ever since it started and so was thrilled that he could finally take part in one. We were pleased to have him and hope that someday he can return.
Mrs Red, White & Blue is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Trooprally and so of course we were pleased that they could join us this evening as well.
Ingrid and Eric came from Smithsburg Maryland, and their son is in Iraq serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. He is coming home next week, and we wish the family a happy homecoming. Hopefully he will be able to get some well-deserved rest after a job well done.
In addition to his report on Kristinn's act of lifesaving, Mr Trooprally sends this narrative of his experiences that evening
A soldier stopped his car and told Kristinn that he was 58 days from retirement after 31 years. He sincerely thanked Us for being out there.Later, another car stopped on its way out of Walter Reed. The driver recognized Kristinn from FReeps around the Washington Mall. He said the the wounded troops were being entertained by Gary Sinese and an actress from the CSI series.
Then about 9:20, Kristinn was talking on the phone and the person on the other end was watching the weather channel. He noticed a big RED rain blob heading for our area of D.C. Because the wind had just started really blowing hard and our banners were billowing to their limits, Kristinn called for us to wrap it up, the BIG thunder storm was on its way. So we packed up our banners. We were still there though when the bus came past with the wounded soldiers and their families. Waves and cheers greeted them. We quickly jumped into our cars as the rains started up for its third time
Had we not taken down our flags and signs when we did we might have lost some in the thunderstorm which followed, which, as is typical for our area, was short and violent.
Almost every weekend soldiers and/or their families come out to meet us. Often hospital workers greet us. This particular night we seemed to have all three. In addition to what Mr Trooprally reported, shortly after we set up a man who worked at the hospital stopped his car after coming out of the hospital and got out to shake our hands. Later that evening a family who's nephew was a soldier recovering at Walter Reed came out to meet us and go look at the Pinkos.
Oh yeah, there were some members of Code Pink gathered down the road. What a stupid irrelevant bunch they have become.
Here are some of Mr Trooprally's photos of the evening
Thank you to everyone who was able to make it this evening, whether you came from near or far. We know that many of you reading this are with us in spirit but due to circumstances cannot be with us. Believe you me, your prayers and support mean a lot to us and the troops.
As all of you know, it looks like we have turned a corner in Iraq and al Qaeda has suffered a terrible defeat. While it's too early to declare victory, we can say that due to the heroic efforts of our troops we are on the way to success.
The troops at the hospital deserve all the support we can give them. I know most all of you reading this are involved in one or another support programs, and after talking with many soldiers and their families over the years I can assure you that no effort you make towards support is too small to be worthwhile. Our work at Walter Reed is just one part of something that millions of patriotic Americans are engaged in as we fight this war.
Until next time!
Come join us every Friday night between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm.

Ping DC Chapter!
Great report! What’s a little rain when higher duty calls. Speaking of higher duty, when a person resuscitates another of God’s creatures, and one that walks on more than two legs and has wings to boot, that is devotion to duty!
Thanks for the typically great AAR. Just think how waterlogged that moth might have become during the last thunderstorm if kristinn hadn’t waded in after it :-) Thank you DC Chapter et.al for showing such steadfast support of our heroes!
Hey , I actually seen the Moth Man in 1962,,sends chills down my neck to this day...
Are you kidding? Do you live close to Point? When we first moved here, hubby and I were out driving and sort of got lost on a back road. It kept getting smaller and smaller and we got into a place where the hair on the back of my neck was twitching. I told him to get us out of there. Only later did I learn that we had been in Mothman territory in the TNT area.
FReepmail me to be added to / deleted from this once-weekly ping list.
Hey, thanks. I went back and read the article. Encouraging. Great report and Tom put his unique spin on it as usual.
Thanks so very much for the report...you guys got ssooooooooo very wet!
I wish I were there even with the weather not so good...it is great here...88 degrees today and only a short shower to make everything shine!
See you soon and until then, I will keep watching for the reports!
I just read that article and, yes, they are a sad group who seem to know they are defeated.
I like to think FR and all our counter protests are part of the reason for their failure, so far.
Glad you pointed out the article. I had missed that link.
We did at one time ,,,Arbuckle,,,if I spelled it right,,It was in Eleanor..At my Memaws house, stayed over one night and seen something flying over this old warehouse, then my Paw Paw ( good man ) was telling me about the Moth Man sighting,,had to go to bed, which was upstairs,,had these pull down shades in this room,as soon as I open the bedroom door the shade flew up and scared the bejeeebies (real word)out of me,,sat on the top step until Me Maw seen me,,,a man has got to face his fears ,,Me maw or the Moth Man,,Moth Man Lost,,, what a night..,remember to this day..
I have met and talked to John Keel a couple of times. He's too old now to make the trip to the festival. The movie "Mothman Prophesies" was such a disappointment. It was nothing like the real story. The book is good though.
Yep, I know Eleanor. I pastored a church in Leon for a couple of years. I think your date is a bit off. The first sighting of the Mothman was in 66. The bridge fell in Dec. 67 and he was never seen again after that. Do you still live in WV?

Well, Tom started it with his thread title. Totally off topic for an AAR.
I can not even THINK about "Mothman"...~!
GOD BLESS THE D.C. FR CONTINGENT!
DC chapter still rocks!
By the way Kristinn, was it mouth to moth resuscitation?
Buuuump!
Now that you mention it,could have been 66-67,,seen the bridge ( railroad) fall in Poca,,,later was found that the Moth Man was a Stork off it’s flight path..?Have one half of my kin in WV the other down here in Alabama,,Settled in Alabama , though have good thoughts of the time that I spent there.Good to meet you WVNan,But that Moth Man scared the heck out of me,,Then there is the Braxton County Monster,,,going to WV next year to visit my folks and to put a US Flag on Paps grave,,My Dad was one of the original Right Wingers,,no doubt,,good to meet you.
Hope all is well with you.
The Moth's Larvae will go on to eat those arguably fashionable holes in the Code Pinko's tights.
:’D This almost made me Keel over.
Great AAR Tom and I love the “mothman” story..lol.
Trooprally your pix are always such a welcome addition & great for the archives..
God bless you all.. the cooler weather is coming & with that the hot chocolate & hot toddies after!
BTTT
Heartwarming news in the NY SUN. Thanks for the link. Gee, who would have thought that Congressmen would tire of freaks invading their office buildings and attempting to dictate policy in DC. /sarc
I plan on being there tomorrow, for an hour. Have a show to do. Let’s hope this rain let’s up enough to let me take a ride down there.
Also, I planned on bringing undocumented hotdogs to this week’s gathering, but if I took hotdogs in the rain, you’d be drinking them by the time I got there. So...the next clear Friday night, and I don’t have a show, I’ll bring undocumented hotdogs for all to enjoy.
I only have one question:
Has anybody ever told you that you guys rock?
And how come nobody’s wearing shorts?
Just another example of our natural conditions down at Georgia Avenue and Elder Streets NW on Friday evenings. Sun, wind, rain, snow, heat, cold, mosquitos, smelly hippies, mothmen...
I used to live in Ripley and drove by that statue frequently.
I moved back home to Boone County WV a few years ago.
Great report, but I wish that we could train the moth to only eat pink fabric.
The NY Sun article that you linked was also real good.
Nice photo.
That spider is going to get a real bad taste if it tries to take a bite of that. The bitterness of that moth repels potential predators. Spider is likely to set the moth free and hope to never see it again.
Nice report, and different.
[Mr] T
Thanks. It’s tough though when it’s raining, and dark out.
When you going to make it down again?
[Mr] T
Dogs instead of pizza, a welcome change.
See ya tomorrow, weather permitting.
[Mr] T
Nice one. I always look forward to your images.
[Mr] T
You have private mail.
Hey Great Per! Hope all is well with you. Busy life here. Don’t get to post much.
LOL. Come to think of it, perhaps it was not so far off topic. Smelly hippies do come to mind.
Hey there in Boone Co. Mothman was really in the middle of things tonight. Point had their Halloween block party. I think there must have been a gazillion people there in the Riverfront Park. I gave all my candy away (for the business) in the first hour. Then I folded up my table and chair and came home. It’s a madhouse down there.
A friend of mine had all the subways in your area, John Rairden. Do you know him?
I had the one in ripley back in the day before the company became hell to work with.
The name sounds familiar. I eat at the one in Point, but I don’t know the people who own it.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!That picture is awesome! Could you please send it to me via freepmail so I can print it out and put on my office wall?
People ask me why we rally and my response is always the same...it is for the troops, their families/friends and my country. Everytime a family or friend of a military member thanks us for what we do, it reinforces our commitment to the mission. The same goes for those who thought that they were alone in their support.
I’m at a loss on how to get people to come out. But no matter. We will continue, just as you do! No matter if there is only one of us on that corner, it will be covered! Knowing that you folks are out there regardless of the weather is inspiring! One day I hope to meet you all! As always, keep up the great work!
As for Kristinn aka Mothman. You rock! Anyone who would help a hapless/close-to-brainless critter has a special place in my heart, especially if it is a guy. You expect women to do that kind of stuff. :-)
