Because her fans were clueless about it...my wife was pissed when she heard this...she said something about the character being attracted to some women (owner of a bar in the series?), and this just seems petty. Looks that way to an outsider too.
Looks to me like she did it just to piss people off. If you think homosexuality is wrong, then hey, take that you backwards prudes.
