Unless a dramatic and perhaps historical flurry of activity occurs in the next 9 weeks, 2007 will rank as a historically inactive TC year for the Northern Hemisphere as a whole. During the past 30 years, only 1977, 1981, and 1983 have had less activity to date (January-TODAY, Accumulated Cyclone Energy). However, the year is not over...
2007 lowest September activity on record since 1977
2006 and 2007 lowest October activity on record since 1976 and 1977
For the period of June 1 - TODAY, only 1977 has experienced LESS tropical cyclone activity than 2007. There are currently two worldwide tropical cyclones: Tropical Storm Noel and Unnamed Arabian Sea TS...
On average to date (1970-2006), the Eastern Pacific season is 97% completed, Western Pacific 82%, North Atlantic 93% and overall Northern Hemisphere 87%.

Global cooling! We are doomed!
Climate Change!!! CLIMATE CHANGE!!!
article of interest
So much for the global warming whiners’ theories that global warming is causing tropical storms and hurricanes, and Katrina was only the tip of the iceberg.
No you’re wrong. Global warming caused Katrina and busy hurricane seasons. Now the lack thereof is also due to global warming. New climatological data are in dontchaknow!
the only solution is to cork everyone's SUV immediately.
Site won’t open.
Yep, probably getting a huge amount of traffic. It is headlined on Drudge.
I finally just let it poll and got it - very impressive.
I’ve lived in hurricane country all my 56 years. My personal experience concurs with the data on the site. It’s been a very slow year. (I ain’t complaining!)
In the past 10 years, 6 are below average, 1 is average, and 3 are above average. Darn global warming.
Keep in mind that they are now counting “cold core” subtropical systems that are not truly tropical cyclones. All in an effort to boost the numbers to match their “doom and gloom” party line. But even with padded numbers they STILL show activity is down!!!!
Darm.
All this global warming goin’ on, and here we go again: It is not Bush’s fault that temps have gone down since Gore left the White House!
At least they found 37 years of data.
Ummmmmmmm . . . . . I thought that with Al Gore, global warming and a bunch of other BS, this year and last year were supposed to be record-setting hurricane seasons spawning more violent and deadly hurricanes than ever before!!
Al couldn’t possibly be wrong could he??!!
(Blinking my gigantic eyes behind glasses)
Well obviously Bush has paid off the LameStreamMedia, the State governments, the national professional communities of first responders and the citizens of all states along the Gulf of Mexico to hide the fact that there really has been a large increase in hurricanes this year, as the pure science of man-made global warming confirms MUST be true.
Karl Rove must have taken the Weather Machine home with him when he left. /s
If the global warming cult keeps predicting bad seasons, eventually they’ll get one right and it will be world wide news for weeks or months. But several calm seasons in a row? Don’t expect much news on this.
Government agencies, climate scientists, local TV weathermen; outside of about 48-72 hours forecast, nobody knows what the weather is going to do.
I do, but I cheat. I live in Tucson, “warm and sunny” is accurate 90 out of 100 non-monsoon days, and during the monsoons “chance of afternoon storms” has you covered.
I live in central Oklahoma where the weather changes often and dramatically. The weather forecasters are lucky to get a accurate 72 hour forecast.
