Canadian pedophile suspect sought in Thailand[Another One]

An arrest warrant has been issued for another Canadian man in Thailand, wanted on pedophilia charges.

Foreign Affairs spokesperson Marina Wilson told CTV.ca that officials are closely monitoring the situation.

"The department is aware of reports that Thai police have issued an arrest warrant for a Canadian citizen," she said from Ottawa.

"Due to the Privacy Act, no further information can be released at this time."

The allegations stem from the abduction of an 8-year-old boy from the Carrefour Shopping Center in South Pattaya on Oct. 28, reports Thailand's Pattaya City News.

The boy was then allegedly taken into the "gay area of Pattaya and was sold to foreign men," London Times' Andrew Drummond told CTV Newsnet from Thailand.

Pattaya, a resort town, is known for its wild bars and considered to be the sex capital of Thailand.

"He was severely abused and Thai police think there were 10 men involved," said Drummond.

Police allege the Canadian suspect, reportedly from Kitchener, Ont., paid 500 Baht (C$15) to have sex with the boy.

The Thai citizen, under arrest for the original kidnapping, led police to the Ben Mansions hotel in Pattaya, said Drummond.

An image of the Canadian was reportedly captured on surveillance cameras at the hotel. Thai police have also obtained a copy of the man's passport.

Meanwhile, the boy has been returned to his mother.

"Police say he has been abused in a number of different ways and I presume they will be using doctors to get medical evidence," said Drummond.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 54-year-old Orville Frank Mader.

"His passport was issued in Jakarta, Indonesia so he may well not have been in Canada for quite some time," said Drummond.

Bernard Nguyen, a spokesperson with Foreign Affairs, told CTV.ca that he had no information yet about the situation.

Earlier this month, another Canadian was arrested in northeastern Thai following an intensive international manhunt.

Christopher Neil, from Maple Ridge, B.C., is facing charges that he photographed and sexually abused dozens of children in Asia.

Officials have said that CCTV footage shows Neil also stayed as a guest of the Ben Mansions.

Hang him. The boy will likely never completely recover.

On the positive side, I have read about a couple dozen Thais and several Europeans (German, Dutch and British) getting nailed in the last week or so. Sound as though the slime began affecting the tourist net dollar. A lot of ordinary Thai's will be relieved and delighted. I was only in Pattaya once (that was enough). If they bulldozed the town with most of its residents, it might make a nice beach.

I have to disagree with you on this one. I've been to Pattaya a number of times, my sister-in-law lives there. I've always enjoyed the city, the people, and the food. It's the foreigners (non-Thai's)that make the place unbearable.

It is the sex trade and the corruption, that is for sure. The vast majority of Thais fell the same as you or I about it and I didn't mean to criticize the average Thai who just happens to live there. However, Thailand has to at least go after the Khun Yai's, corrupt politicians, police and the families who sell their kids(for whatever reason -- and it's usually drug related). It Happens in Chiang Mai where we live as well as Pattaya -- just not quite as openly. Hell, it even happens in my Wife's home province of Phrae. It has got to stop because the abused kids of today are the sex tour "guides" of tomorrow.

That I'll agree with.

Chiang Mai... Ever been to the midnight market? Strange and wonderful smells linger in the air from the open market. My wife is from Khonkaen.

Yes, lots of fun and good food. However, we are old folks and usually just go to Wororot or the early morning market near us in San Sai. Good veggies and fruit.

Khonkaen is a really interesting city. My wife has good friends in Buriram, south of there, so we either drive through Khonkaen or Chaiyaphum. The market by the lake is quite something.

It's the gun-toting russian mafioso that particularly chafes my hide. Actually, it's any eurotrash that I find insufferable. They ruin it for me.

Oh yeah. It's always "better" back home. My parents taught me to be respectful of someones culture, even if you don't understand all of it. Because of this I've always had a wonderful time no matter where in the world I am (the nickname is more than a moniker).

Now if you want to have some real fun in Thailand, find an Aussie or a Kiwi.
