Knesset Bill Angers Israeli Arabs (Israel Seeks To Ban Israeli Arab MK Treasonous Activity Alert)

The preliminary passage of legislation aiming to bar Israelis who visit "enemy states" from serving in Parliament has sparked heated exchanges.

Israeli-Arab MPs said the plan showed the Knesset was "racist" and vowed not to abide by any eventual law.

One of the sponsors defended the proposal, reportedly saying: "Enough of Arab Knesset members spitting in our faces and us saying it's raining."

In April an MP who had visited Syria and Lebanon was accused of spying.

Azmi Bishara fled Israel after facing charges of spying for the Lebanese group Hezbollah during last year's war.

He says he is the victim of persecution.

Fears of spying

The legislation passed by 52-19 votes on Tuesday will have to be approved another three times before being enacted.

It seeks to make it illegal for Israelis who visit "enemy states" - including Syria, with whom Israel remains technically at war - without permission to serve as a Knesset member.

The proposals were put forward by two right-wing members - Zevulun Orlev and Esterina Tartman.

"Visiting enemy states stirs fear that sensitive security information could be relayed," the Jerusalem Post quoted Mr Orlev as saying.

"The Bishara episode and the incitement used by some of the Arab MPs, such as their trips to Syria and meetings with Hamas leaders, are not in the realm of free speech, but form clear encouragement of armed attacks and terrorist activities against Israel."

Ms Tartman reportedly said it was "time for Israel to open its eyes. Enough of Arab Knesset members spitting in our faces and us saying it's raining."

Angry response

The move was bitterly rejected by Israeli-Arab MPs.

"The Knesset is steeped in racism," said Ahmed Tibi of the United Arab List party.

"Corrupt members of the Knesset want a Knesset without Arabs... If I am invited [to an enemy state] I will go despite the law."

"If we have to choose between loyalty to our people, or serving the Knesset, then good luck to the Knesset," said Muhammad Barakei, who heads the Hadash party.

"All the racists can choke."

The proposed bill just passed by the Israeli Knesset prohibits Israeli Arabs from serving in the Knesset and visiting enemy states. The Israeli Arabs have revealed their identity as fifth columnists. In deciding to prevent treasonous activities, Israel is branded as "racist" by Arabs belonging to anti-Zionist parties who sit and vote in its Parliament. It is high time they were made to choose between their loyalty to Israel or their engaging in sedition on behalf of Israel's enemies. They should not have the luxury of doing both, something they have gotten away with for decades now.

This is literally stabbing someone in the back and then calling them a racist when they complain about it.

"The Knesset is steeped in racism,"

"Arab" is not a "race". They are Caucasoid, as are Jews.

Wouldn’t it be wonderfull if the USA passed similar legislation?

Oh, I forgot, we already have!
But none of our current elected politicians seem to pay much attention to such outmoded/unenforced laws and proscribed rules of conduct for government officials designed to hamper treasonously intentioned elected and/or appointed government officials from committing actual treason!

They have one, but he isn't really Jewish, but can't admit publicly for fear of Islamist violence.
The Arab Nationalists in the PA had the bright idea taht for PR purposes they would set aside 1 spot in their Parliament for the Jews. However, there are no more than a handful of Jews under their control. There are, however, about 350 Samaritans in Nablus. One of theirs is the representative.
Now the Samaritans make it clear that they are Israelites, but not Israelis, although there are about 400 Samaritans in Israel who are Israeli citizens. Now the Samaritans in Israel are clear that they are not Jews. But those under Arab control must pretend to be Jews because Mohammed believe Samaritans to be infidels. They are not accorded dhimmi status and would otherwise be slaughtered by Hamas.

Personally this is the type of thing that makes me laugh. cry, and gives me a headache all at once.

They should not only be barred from holding political office, they should be barred from living in Israel if their loyalty is to the Arab states. The Arabs are permanently at war with Israel and no 24 hour day passes without Arab rockets or mortar shells falling on Israeli soil. Having Arabs in the Knesset is equivalent to the US having North Koreans or Taliban partisans in Congress.
