Dog throws himself to the Sharptons
American Thinker ^ | November 2, 2007 | Marc Sheppard

...It would seem that Political Correctness gone mad has bestowed upon one Alfred Sharpton Jr. more power over media careers than even the FCC...

I’m by no means defending the despicable language of the aptly nicknamed Mr. Chapman. However, on balance, his alleged transgressions are but words, no more, no less...

He was really just trying to provide parental guidance. We might not all agree with his fatherly advice, but that's what it was.

The words were meant for the ears of his son only. That's where they should have stayed. If this kid sold the tape to the media, he has betrayed his father and his family. Dad may be Dog but the kid should be named Sh*t.

In cities such as Boston, NYC, Phoenix, Vegas, LA, there is a game blacks play.

Walking while white can get you "shouldered" when passing a black walking in the opposite direction. It's been going on for years. It's culture now. Never ever have seen this mentioned in any media.

Yet a white guy's life is taken away from him because he said private, legal words some pretend to be offended by.

Not me. I don't participate.

No one forced the DOG to drop those N-Bombs.

However, as an American the Dog should be able to say what ever he likes.

Most importantly, A&E can for what ever reason terminate the Dog’s Contract.

For A&E firing the Dog is an easy decision in that no company wants stupid employees and no company wants employees that call people by derogatory names.

Robert Byrd should have lost his Senate seat for dropping N-Bombs on fox News and A&E has every right to fire the Dog for using the N-Word.

Moreover, anyone who goes around saying that word, no matter their race, is not only moronic but is pond scum.

It depends on his contract with A&E. Very few contracts (maybe none) permit one to be fire for a private conservation with one's own son that contains nothing illegal.

In Imus' case, CBS was the guilty party. IMO, Dog has a lucrative lawsuit here.

I'm betting just about every contract involving an entertainer has some sort of vague, boilerplate language about reflecting negatively on the show or network, moral turpitude, etc. That kind of stuff.

Whether his conduct was illegal or not makes zero difference.

If his son had gone to the media and reported that Dog used the N-word then nothing would have happened.

However, the conversation is no longer private when it is taped and broadcast on the Net and TV. And yes, the Dog should have understood that he may have been being taped.

And now, his former employer and everyone in the country knows that the Dog is a moron.

It depends on the contract. In this day and age, however, almost everyone has a case. Take a look at Howard Stern suing Rita Cosby and her publisher. A farce. He is also suing all kinds of other people, possibly hoping they will settle to make him go away.

“Moreover, anyone who goes around saying that word, no matter their race,”

Jeez, get over it already. Seriously, IT’S A FREAKIN’ WORD! Reading posts like yours makes me want to shout it from the mountain tops.

At it’s worst, the definition of “nigger” is a derogatory word for blacks.

At it’s best it’s a street term for familiarity or friendship.

All groups, not just racial or ethnic either, are described by their detractors by using “slurs”. We do it to a number of groups on this board all day, EVERY day.

What makes black people better than everyone else? Are you putting forth the notion that every “group” in the country reserves the right to censor every word someone uses to describe them if they don’t like it?

“Nigger” is the most powerful word in the world. People who think like YOU made it that way. You expect nobody to use it?

Outrageous people say and do outrageous things. No surprise here. A&E knew Mr. Chapman was no William Buckley. They should also know the apples don’t fall far from the tree. As I have many times cautioned my son, “Remember, Dearest Child, that smokin’ hot babe comes with a family, too, and THEY may be more than you want to cozy up to at Christmas and Thanksgiving.”

A&E weren’t looking for the Cleavers. They wanted the Chapmans — so they should suck it up and go on with the show.

And every media contract has a moral turpitude clause and the Dog has obviously violated that.

Unless the Dog can find a civil jury that believes that calling someone a “N!663R is okay he is out of luck.

Come on, are you being sarcastic? Or you just want to argue? Calling somebody a name in a private conversation does not rise to the level of moral turpitude. There is an enormous difference between uttering a word and performing an immoral or illegal act.

Lawyer: Chapman’s Son Sold N-Word Tape
By JAYMES SONG – 17 hours ago

HONOLULU (AP) — Television bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman’s private phone conversation, in which he used the N-word repeatedly, was taped and sold to The National Enquirer by his son, Chapman’s lawyer said Thursday.

Attorney Brook Hart told The Associated Press that Chapman’s son, Tucker, sent the recording to the tabloid for “a lot of money.”

“I guess because of whatever level of anger he had of his father, he felt the need to express it in that manner,” Hart said.

Tucker Chapman could not immediately be reached for comment. No one answered the telephone at a Honolulu number listed under his name.

Chapman, star of A&E’s hit reality series “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” apologized Wednesday, shortly after the Enquirer posted on its Web site a 5-minute clip of the conversation in which he uses the N-word in reference to Tucker’s girlfriend.

Chapman used the slur six times in the first 45 seconds of the clip, which has damaged his reputation and jeopardized his career as a TV bounty hunter.

A&E has suspended production of the series, saying the network takes the matter very seriously.

“When the inquiry is concluded, we will take appropriate action,” A&E spokesman Michael Feeney said in a statement Thursday.

The show, in its fifth season and one of A&E’s top-rated programs, has not been canceled.

A telephone message left after hours for David Perel, the Enquirer’s editor-in-chief, was not immediately returned. But earlier in the day, Perel declined to say how the tape was obtained, adding that it didn’t matter because all that matters is what’s on the tape.

In the conversation, Chapman urges Tucker to break up with his girlfriend. He also expresses concern about the girlfriend trying to tape and go public about the TV star’s use of the N-word.

In a statement, the 54-year-old Chapman said he has “utmost respect and aloha for black people who have suffered so much due to racial discrimination and acts of hatred.

“I did not mean to add yet another slap in the face to an entire race of people who have brought so many gifts to this world,” he said. “I am ashamed of myself and I pledge to do whatever I can to repair this damage I have caused.”

Hart said his client is not a racist and vowed never to use the word again.

“I have never seen anything that suggests he judges people by the color of their skin or racial background or anything but on their character,” he said. “Duane lost his composure and made very, very inapprorpiate remarks, for which he truly regrets.”

Chapman said he was “disappointed in his choice of a friend, not due to her race, but her character. However, I should have never used that term.”

Chapman said he is meeting with his spiritual adviser, Rev. Tim Storey, and hopes to meet with other black leaders.

“I know that all of my fans are deeply disappointed in me, as well, as I have tried to be a model for doing the right thing,” he said. “I did not do the right thing this time, and hope you will forgive me.”

Civil-rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton is among the leaders Chapman contacted. In a letter Thursday to the bounty hunter, Sharpton wrote that as a minister, he would be inclined to meet “despite the racist and grotesque things I heard you say.”

Sharpton said he would be willing to meet while traveling to promote a Nov. 16 march in Washington against hate crimes and racial attacks, but would not rearrange his road trip to do so.

“Be assured that I will not sanitize the kind of hate language that leads to the hate action that has left so many people vulnerable in America today,” Sharpton wrote.

Sharpton noted he hadn’t called for action by A&E, but will not call against it, either.

The TV series follows Chapman and his tattooed crew as they track down bail jumpers in Hawaii and other states.

The Honolulu-based bounty hunter first grabbed headlines for apprehending serial rapist and Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in Mexico in 2003.
