A defiant Democrat-controlled Congress voted yesterday to provide health insurance to an additional 4 million lower-income children, and President Bush vowed swiftly to cast his second straight veto on the issue.
The legislation cleared the Senate on a vote of 64-30. It passed the House last week, but supporters were shy of the two-thirds majority needed to override Bush's threatened veto.
"We're convinced that the president has undermined an effort to protect children," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said shortly before the vote.
"Congress has known for weeks that the President would veto this bill," White House press secretary Dana Perino said in a statement after the vote. "Now Congress should get back to work on legislation that covers poor children and stop using valuable floor time to make partisan statements."
In a situation of unusual political complexity, Republicans dictated the decision to pass the legislation speedily.
It appeared their goal was to short-circuit attempts by supporters of the bill to reach a compromise that could attract enough votes in the House to override Bush's veto.

Don’t get me started! We have Prop. 15 in TX, which is Gov. Goodhair’s way around the veto’d mandate to vaccinate 12-yr-old girls against an STD!

""We're convinced that the president has undermined an effort to protect children," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat," Harry Reid is a LIAR.
Bush has undermined an effort to add 25 year old "children" to the program, as well as illegal aliens. The program itself isn't being canceled, in fact Bush added 500 million more to it's budget.

"I appreciate your pointing that out. Why wont the MSM do same?" Because MSM is the propaganda machine for Democrats. I've yet to see one single article which points out the Democrats attempt to deceive the public and how everyone of them- especially Pelosi and Reid- are lying when they say "the children" will no longer be covered, while the TRUTH is they will be covered more than they were before.
I will keep saying it because media won't. That way if someone googles "Harry Reid is a liar" or "Nancy Pelosi is a LIAR" they'll get a link to the truth, even if they are "leftwing communist Moonbats". :o)

Congressional Democrats don’t give a crap about passing the bill as much as manufacturing a commercial showing Bush throwing sick children out of the hospital.

With their continued push of the amnesty bill and SCHIP after they’ve been vetoed, the Democrats in Congress remind me of the little kid who touches the hot stove and finds it hurts, but goes back and touches it again. They don’t learn.

"We're convinced that the president has undermined an effort to protect children," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
Waiting in lines for two months for health care really "protects" people, doesn't it? How 'bout these people get jobs or get off their welfare checks and pay for their own insurance? It's not the govt's job to play nanny on your personal matters. But people are so apathetic and lazy these days that they want a government to take care of them and do everything for them. On the one hand, everyone always talks about how "independent" and "motivated" they are, yet they want the govt to hold them captive and do everything that they're supposed to do.
P.S. Harry...I'm convinced you're failing to protect America by urging our troops to get out of Iraq defeated. Been pretty silent up on Capitol Hill about Iraq lately, hasn't it?
