The University of Delaware has suspended a program that had recently come under fire for being nothing more than an indoctrination program. The program required residence hall students to acknowledge "all whites were racist." According to Greg Lukianoff, president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), the program has been in place four years, but since University President Patrick Harker joined the university, the program has really increased the intensity.

I would like to know who wrote the manual. Need to rake him over the coals a bit.

I applied to and considered going to the University of Delaware. Good thing I didn’t.

Good scoop, bodhi1. Also good news, but the U’s still bear close watching. Delaware was just a trial balloon.

Their attitudes and goals haven’t changed. They are just reacting to pressure. They will try it again.

That is an interesting question. I followed all the links and couldn’t discover the name or names of the authors. Those people need to be identified and outed.

It seems at times like the leftist “intelligentsia” in this country want to cultivate something like Chinas Red Guard from the Cultural Revolution in the 70’s.

Well, well. It seems that one of the authors is a fellow named Art Munin. Hiw website is ArtMunin.com. And he sounds like a prize squish-head who himself has been brainwashed beyond rational thought. Geez. Your tax dollars at work.

And here is one of the classes parents pay for their children to take that the brilliant thinker, Art Munin, a white guy who hates his own race, teaches: "Unveiling White Privilege" Art Munin, DePaul University November 26 - December 14, 2007

Course Description Whiteness is a concept that must be defined historically. However, the power of White privilege has subverted history, perpetuating the perception that Whiteness does not exist nor is it privileged. Typically history is written by those who have won but this course will give voice to those who have been silenced. We will uncover how White privilege has evolved, how it is perpetuated and what we can do in our roles to unhinge its power. Learning Objectives * A foundational understanding of the antecedents of White Privilege. * Participants will be able to identify the current personifications of White Privilege in higher education. * Participants will learn and create strategies for limiting the effects of White Privilege within their spheres of influence.

It reflects a left-wing Black Power mentality from the 1960’s.

They’ve taken over leadership in education and push this on staff and students alike.

Only whites are racist LOL.

Its not funny to see this kind of political indoctrination going on.

"It seems at times like the leftist “intelligentsia” in this country want to cultivate something like Chinas Red Guard from the Cultural Revolution in the 70’s."

You've hit on it exactly! That's is what the crypto-communist Left in America is trying to instigate. Ever see or hear or read any condemnation from Left over Mao's "Cultural Revolution" that murdered millions and set back the China's development by fifty years? I haven't.

Actually who wrote the manual did a big favor. U of Del might have gotten away with it had they not put so much down on paper. Also those personally concerned better check to see that the PROGRAM not just the MANUAL is changed.

Back in the 80's the Wall St. Journals Op-Ed page wrote constantly about what was happening on American college campuses. They saw early on that political correctness was not some cute fad but rather a very pernicious strain of cultural Marxism. Two decades hence it has metastasized throughout our culture and is a large part of why we are becoming so dysfunctional.

Gramsci theorized that to implement a new culture (Socialism) one has to first destroy the existing culture, and one way to accomplish that is to make people lose confidence in and respect for the existing one.

It amazes me how people simply refuse to see the totalitarian impulses of the modern American left.

University of Delaware Suspends Indoctrination Program

a general observation from trips into the wood that applies to
this event at The University of Delaware...

KICK OVER A ROTTEN LOG...
AND WATCH THE VERMIN RUN FOR COVER!!!!!"

Looks like "light" is the best disinfectant for the Ideological
POISON that American Universities think they can charge parents
$30,000/yr/offspring!!!

I'm increasingly (and mildly) optimistic about the future of the USA...
...because I suspect someone at The University of Delaware had
to breath deeply before they exposed this putrefication to the
general US public.

“And he sounds like a prize squish-head who himself has been brainwashed beyond rational thought.”

Yes, and “squish-head” is exceedingly generous. Take a look at his master’s thesis:

http://www.artmunin.com/images/final.pdf

60 pages of drivel but he’s one of several assistant deans of students at DePaul University and runs his own consulting firm on the side.

He’s a one-trick pony. The description of his session at a workshop in April reads exactly like the short-course you quoted from coming up later this month at DePaul. Someone with time to waste should do a Google search to see how many dozen times he’s apparently given the same presentation

The workshop I just linked to was given last spring at the annual meetings of two professional assocations for college “educators.” Look at their home pages and weep:

http://www.naspa.org/
http://www.myacpa.org/

The proliferation of middle level bureaucrats with degrees not in some field of scholarship but in “university administration” or “higher education” is what has killed college education in this country. These folks are why tuition keeps rising—they outnumber faculty if you add them all up and in many cases are better paid.

These folks are the reason higher education in this country is beyond redemption.

These are posts by DU students on The Chronicle of Higher Education site:http://chronicle.com/news/article/3339/free-speech-group-accuses-u-of-delaware-of-thought-reform

Note the RA in comment 2 was threatened if he didn’t get in line. This is criminal behavior.

1) I am so happy that FIRE blew open this case. I work in the student affairs office and the place went crazy when the letter from FIRE arrived. THe truth is that they created a well intended program, but crossed the line in many ways. Yes until this week the program was mandatory and they have temporarily suspended the mandatory nature of it, but once the attention goes away especially with Parents Weekend arriving they want to look good. Boy can they lie.

2) I have been an RA for the past two years and have not been comfortable with this program. It has gotten out of hand and demanding of students. Yesterday I was approached to be an advocate of the program. Several of my RA friends have been asked to be available for talking with the press. When I declined I was taken aside and told that my future as an RA was in jeopardy as was future a student. I decided to stand-up for myself. I read the university response to FIRE and they seem to want to divert the attention away from the programs flaws and talk about how FIRE make U Del. students look. Well it was U Del. students that had the backbone and insight to bring this issue up to FIRE. Go Hens! FIRE believes in us.

RACISM (N) Prejudice based on an individual's race;

The program is by definition racist. It is prejudging the majority of America based on race.

cynthia tucker is the most racist journalist I have ever read. She's from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She can make anything appear to be a race problem.
