Vietnam Wall - 25th Anniversary, Nov. 10,2007
Nov. 03,2007

Posted on 11/03/2007 5:09:05 PM PDT by trooprally

LIST of the WEEK'S EVENTS including Reading of the Names.

Here is a quick break down of Saturday's events.

There is going to be a Opening Ceremony from 10 AM till 11 AM on the Mall at 3rd ST. between Jefferson and Davis Drives.

Closes Metro is the Blue/Orange Line stop at Federal Center, SW. But if you want to enjoy a nice morning stroll along the Mall, any of the other stops are good.

There is a Parade from 11 AM til 4 PM. It appears to start where the opening Ceremony is and go to the Washington Monument grounds. The route is not given.

At the Washington Monument Grounds from 12 noon till 6 PM the flyer says "Parade participants and the general public can enjoy a variety of activities and street vendors".

There is a great line up of entertainers on Saturday.

The flyer also says book your rooms and make travel arrangements at www.vva.org

For all the Marines reading this thread - Happy Birthday on this Saturday. Semper Fi

"These guys live forever as long as we remember them."

Something most folks never think about....

Those guys are eternally young...
They still look the same, and their voices haven't changed.
Their laugh is unchanged, their cries for help remain unchanged, their final calling calling out in vain to their mothers still rings true in a voice their mothers would recognize...

One need only GO TO THAT WALL, in the still and quiet of predawn......place your hands on the wall and call to those you know.
They come.....they ALWAYS come to welcome you, and bitch a little that it's been too long since you last came....

It is such a overwhelming experience -- that always bring such an flush of tears that you'll see a lot of old men "blowing the noses" and "wiping their glasses" to avoid the embarrassment of being seen...

Every veteran, who has a brother's name on that wall and even those who were blessed to come home with their unit intact -- should visit... They expect you....they will welcome you.....and you will experience a level of contact with our lost brothers that is impossible to describe...

If at all possible --- go.

You and Mrs. T have been intrepid Freepers, and we appreciate all of the protests and rallies that you do attend.

I hope to join you one of these days.

My cousin is there. It reminds me of the Jefferson memorial at night. Hollowed ground.

I have never been able to go to the Vietnam Wall.

I had to go once. I was in D.C. and knew the names of 18 family members are listed. I had a few minutes, but was able to locate at least one. His name is here...

The Wall is one of the most simple, yet moving monuments ever designed by a human being to honor the sacrifice of our soldiers.

That wasn't her intent at all. Much to her dismay the Wall has become something Lin never intended it to be.

My FR Search was for the Vietnam Wall, 25th Anniversary. I guess it didn’t pick up on your keywords. My apology as I could have pinged the D.C. List on your thread. I guess I also need to increase the number of threads for FR on my sidebar so threads such as yours don’t get pushed below the bottom before I can review them.

Thanks for giving everyone much more heads up time than my thread. I couldn’t imagine the 25th Anniversary not being on FR before this.

I was just adding John Rowan’s letter to your thread. I posted that back in September. I don’t think you can increase your threads enough to show my post from 2 months ago ;)

It was so unfortunate when we went the Wall was being renovated and you could only see a few feet. Very sad to have gone all that way. Someday maybe we can get the chance again.

I was fortunate enought to have seen the Moving Wall a year before that. The public internet was only a gleam in someones eye in 1992.

It was the lighting, they were redoing all of it. It was a long way to go from Oregon but at least now being in SC we are closer.
