Somali pirates left two boats they had hijacked in the waters off the Horn of Africa, and the newly liberated vessels and their crew of 24 were under U.S. Navy escort on Sunday.
A U.S. Navy ship and helicopter were guiding the Tanzanian-flagged boats Mavuno 1 and 2 further out to sea, where naval personnel will later board the vessels and treat crew members, said Cmdr. Lydia Robertson of the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The Navy is in radio contact with pirates aboard three other ships in the region, encouraging them also to leave those ships and sail back to Somalia, she told The Associated Press.
"We're very happy with this development and hope it happens with the other ships off the coast," Robertson said. "We're very happy for the crew and their families."

The U.S. has now intervened four times in one week to help ships hijacked by Somali pirates...
Hijackings in the vast stretch of water frequently go unreported.

SOP should be their electrocution until they catch fire.
Then burial with pigs on webcam.
In their fantasy world, it never happened.
Won’t be many more happy endings when the LOST treaty gets approved by the Senate. In the future it’ll be non-stop committee meetings and angry letters.
“Robertson said the pirates boarded skiffs after they left the hijacked ships, and headed back to Somalia. No shots were fired during the incident...”
US Navy should have engaged and sunk them.
No quarter for pirates!
Do commercial ships carry any weapons? Or are assault rifles banned aboard ships?
I wish they’d call these guys what they are. When the public hears “pirates” they think Blackbeard or Captain Jack Sparrow. These guys are Islamic terrorists with boats. But that wouldn’t fit the media template, I guess.
I don’t understand that either. They seem to be negotiating with the pirates and letting them go free to attack again.
If every 20th or 50th cargo ship had a Navy contingent on board and pirate ships were routinely sank during their attack and surviving pirates left to drown, there would be a lot fewer pirates after a while.
During the 18th and 19th centuries the Royal Navy paid their crews “head money” for each killed or captured pirate. The sailors were very enthusiastic about pirate hunting.
In international waters, anything goes. I remember a story from a year or two back of a cruise ship repelling pirates by use of automatic weapons. The problem is in the various ports these ships might visit. Think concealed carry law differences from state to state, only on a much larger scale.
This article seems to report that the pirates were allowed to leave peacefully....
In a sane world - it would have been SSS...
Shoot, Sink and Silence...
The world is obviously becoming more insane -— when an opportunity to rid the world of such cockroaches is ignored.

Yes, well, George TROP Bush wasn’t calling the shots back then, was he?!
BUMP!
