HONOLULU - Television bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman's show has been pulled from the air indefinitely by A&E, two days after a private phone conversation in which the reality star used a racial slur repeatedly was posted online.
"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take 'Dog The Bounty Hunter' off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," the network said in a statement Friday. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."
A&E officials said the series, one of the network's top-rated programs, has not been canceled.
Chapman, 54, has been under fire and accused of being a racist ever since the private conversation with his son, Tucker Chapman, was posted online Wednesday by The National Enquirer. Chapman used the N-word repeatedly about his son's black girlfriend.
At least two advertisers have pulled out from the show and civil rights groups have called for its cancellation.
Soon after the clip was posted, Chapman issued an apology and A&E suspended production of the series.
In the conversation, Chapman urges Tucker to break up with his girlfriend. He also expresses concern about the girlfriend trying to tape and go public about the TV star's use of the N-word. He used the slur six times in the first 45 seconds of the five-minute clip.
Chapman has said he was "disappointed in his choice of a friend, not due to her race, but her character.
This is a ridiculous over-reaction.
They don’t react like this to leftists who criticize whites.
I am not defending what he said, but come on.
This is idiocy. I guess if A&E wants to kill its ratings, it is their choice.
One of these days a public figure will get caught in a politically-incorrect act and just say: “So what? Screw you all!”
And nothing will happen.
I’d sooner kick the living crap out of my son for, essentially, betraying me.
This whole event proves the statement, that you can take some white folk out of the trash, but you cannot take the trash out of some white folk. :)
There’s a shock.
So, you think that all “white” people are filled with trash?
Your post has not been pulled?
Quantify “some.”
If you can’t, I’ll assume YOU are a racist demagogue.
Who said "All"? Only you.
Why does he meet her and apologize for something that he did not even say to her? I can’t stand Duane Chapman ... but he believed that he was having a private conversation with his son. If anybody owes the girl an apology, it is her thoughtless boyfriend who made the tape and sold it to the salivating entertainment media.
I heard the entire 5-minute conversation on FNC. His son’s girlfriend had been threatening Dog’s wife, Beth. Dog didn’t trust this young woman and didn’t want her around his family. From the conversation it was obvious Dog knew a great deal about the background and activities of his son’s girlfriend, and absolutely did not want her around any of them.
Furthermore, this was a private conversation between father and son - it should never have been recorded. The idea to record it turns out to have been the girlfriend’s idea, this is according to one of Dog’s other sons.
Frankly I believe this young man has thoroughly messed up any chance for reconciliation with his Dad. He sure whined a lot during the conversatin.
Back atcha. MORON.
LOL! Beth ... LOL!
Wha? Were you born this retarded or did it come naturally?
The man uses politically incorrect language on a regular basis - from what I’ve heard in news reports, this mainly comes from a rough upbringing, not from racist tendencies. Imply what you wish from a possibly illegally recorded phone conversation between him and his son, but to argue over semantics (and if you had listened to the ENTIRE conversation, you’d realize that is what it is) like fools and summarily accuse each other of bigotry or even racism is juvenile.
This is a PERSONAL FAMILY MATTER and the son, TUCKER, has been a troublemaker for most of his life.
Moroever, what was the SON doing taping his father while they were having a PERSONAL family discussion? Go find a clue.
He was told he was to get out of the house he lived in and his job was over UNLESS he ditched his girlfriend. Racism that probably is actionable if there was an employees employer relationship.
I agree. His son sold him out for a family spat to the National Enquirer. I would NEVER speak to him again ever.
I am NOT defending Dog’s choice of words but this was a private conversation and his son took it to the next level.
I have wondered in the past couple of days just how many times A&E has had to bleep Chapman saying nigger, since he claims to use the word quite regularly. I have to think that it comes as no big surprise to A&E that he uses this language, but as long as they can cover it up they will air the show.
