Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), a long-shot presidential candidate, plans to force the House to vote this week on whether to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney.
If he pulls it off, it could make for an uncomfortable situation for Democratic leaders and centrist Democrats. Liberal activists are pushing for impeachment, while leaders worry such a move could turn off independent voters. They have made it clear that impeachment of Cheney or President Bush is off the table.
Kucinich says he will offer a privileged resolution on Tuesday requiring House members to vote on what to do with the impeachment measure, which currently has 22 sponsors.
When the motion is offered, it can either be passed, sent to a committee or killed with a motion to table. Sending it to committee avoids an immediate floor vote and might be the most appealing option to the Democratic leadership.
The Kucinich campaign says dozens of supportive organizations will be lobbying House members on the resolution.
The lawmaker is expected to offer more details Monday night in a conference call open to the public. His presidential campaign will provide additional details on its website.
Kucinich is not the only candidate disparaging Cheney.
During the weekend, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) referred to the vice president as a crazy uncle in the attic. He was riffing on reports that he and Cheney are distantly related.
Also, a new book by New York Daily News Bureau Chief Tom DeFrank said that former President Gerald Ford questioned whether Cheney should have been on the presidential ticket with Bush in 2004.
I swear this is it for Cheney. He should fear the KOOK!
Cheney thinks all of this is funny.
LOL!
While we’re at it make it a rollcall vote so everybody goes on record individually for their constituents to see. I’ll bet you’ll get a ton of “present” votes.
“Liberal activists are pushing for impeachment”
Impeached for what reason?
What are the grounds for Impeachment and anyone have a copy of HR 4655 on hand?
Do we know what they would impeach the Vice President for?
What are the “charges” they’re trying to trump up against him?
Reason? Dems don't need no stinkin' reason!
I’ve been calling him Kookyspinich for a long time now.
Fruitcake is probably a better description. Or Pathetic with a capital P and it doesn’t rhyme with Pool, rhymes with Fool!
These people just get dumber and dumber. I can’t imagine how this guy is running for President; except maybe comic relief.
Perhaps we should all mail tin foil hats to him! LOL
They haven't thought that part out. Just a minor detail in a libtard brain.
It’s not really about Cheney, it’s about narcissistic showboating for the dumb Dhims and their little greedy, needy ego’s. That and PR.
'Rats don't need charges...you just have to disagree with them.
Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 (Enrolled Bill (Sent to President))
"CLINTON: Good evening.
Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.
The hard fact is that so long as Saddam remains in power, he threatens the well-being of his people, the peace of his region, the security of the world.
The best way to end that threat once and for all is with a new Iraqi government -- a government ready to live in peace with its neighbors, a government that respects the rights of its people."

IF I were him, I'd leave Cheney alone.
Hasn't Denny heard about Cheney shooting his friend
Imagine what he would do to a liberal. LOL!
Given that Dick Cheney’s daughter is gay, and that his cousin is African American, why should he be impeached? He should be running for President.
my assumption is that this concerns
Cheney’s role in the Plame matter.
What Cheney presumably did was dishonorable and sleezy,
but I don’t consider it bad enough to impeach.
with that said, it would be nice if
Cheney did the honorable thing and resigned.
Slow day over at DU?
Troll alert.
exposing Plame, helped the Republican party, in what way?
Xanador, the leader of Venus, told me that Dennis Kucinich is running amuck.
Xanador told me he distictly told Dennis to Bring a REECE to the World, not PEACE.
Xanador owns the Reece candy bar rights (incognito of course)
So tell us what Cheney did besides read a newspaper report and then ask his aides who in the hell sent this ambassador to Niger.........and why.
"Often evil harms itself"
Karl Rove is clearly using martian mindmeld techniques on Ohio politicians of the vertically challenged variety...
LOL You are either badly misinformed, irretrievably stupid, a troll, Valerie Plame or all of the above.
Kookysnitch is on a roll!
Kook-cinich will have the last laugh though. Senators and representatives from Mars will be allowed to vote. ‘nuff said. Watch yer’ back! Keep one in the chamber! Did you hear that?
what you wrote, is not the problem.
My belief is, Cheney allowed Libby to ‘out’ Plame.
now, that may not have been technicaly illegal,
but how is it honorable, or helpful
to the Republican party?

Sweet, but empty calories. I'll stick with the Mrs., hands down.
Richard Armitage "outed" Plame, who was so "super secret" she was walking in the front doors of Langley every Mon-Fri.
I get it now. You are really Joe Wilson.
Cheney needs to take these fools hunting.. LOL
Even Pelosi would vote against this. This is just stupid and won’t get anywhere.
1. Lying about Saddam’s WMD threat. (That there were several other perfectly justifiable reasons for toppling Saddam, wholly approved if not outright advocated by pretty much everyone on both sides of the aisle and the border, seems irrelevant. Flubbing 1 out of 10 justifications for war is apparently impeachable.)
2. Pre-emptive war. (Not waiting for the bully to hurt someone is apparently impeachable.)
3. Violating UN treaties regarding pre-emptive war. (That the UN, for all intents and purposes, TOLD the US to invade is irrelevant. Alleged violations of the UN Tyrant Protection Act is apparently impeachable.)
whatever really happened, the whole Libby matter
did not help the Republican party.
But he is not the Commander and Chief.
So those reasons given, shouldn’t they go after W?
Really? ...and other than speculation, what evidence do you have of any of this? I speculate you released Plame’s name, disprove it.
Cheneys role in the Plame matter....and what did he have Armitage do? And what Plame Matter? You make it seem as though there is some matter of import.
I believe HR 333 is the Kucinich resolution -
Oh, you had me going there for a sec. You really gotta put in the < /sarcasm> tags when you’re that good.
Really, djxu456, I can’t tell when you’re kidding. You’re starting to scare me, man.
Why do the voters in his district put up with this certified nut.
That’s OK - the new Vice President Rumsfeld is waiting in the wings. ;)
Wouldn’t it be glorious if he won the primary?
I would be laughing so hard; but it would be glorious.
