SAN FRANCISCO -- A 920-foot container ship, heading out of the San Francisco Bay from the Port Of Oakland, collided with a supporting tower of the fog-shrouded Bay Bridge early Wednesday, damaging its hull but it was not known if it caused any damage to the vital traffic artery.

The collision happened at about 8:15 a.m. during the morning commute but did not disrupt traffic on the bridge.

THanks.

What I meant though was actual footage of the incidence.

I believe that various ports &etc have installed surveillance cameras in the event of a terrorist attack. I was wondering if SF had done so.

This was caused by global warming. The cooling of the Earth, due to the warming of the Global (wherever it may be) has resulted in a contraction of the Earth, which moved the vessel closer to the bridge.

These problems will continue to occur until we find the Global, and cool it, thus warming the Earth.

The skipper is in big trouble. The ship is essentially empty (returning empty boxes to red china). That resulted in damage that would be close to the water line when full, which means there will be no quick fix.

FWIW the vessel is South Korean. Just in case some might think the name implies Chinese.

This ship had a US pilot advising on harbor navigation, not a Chinese National. Remember, GPS is our friend at sea and don’t drink and navigate!

The fog was very thick at the time of impact. Doesn’t the captain have to be licensed to be sea-worthy in cases like this? (like a pilot has to be IFR rated to fly in low visibility).

People that live in San Francisco have no reason to take the Bay Bridge.

People that live in San Francisco have no reason to take the Bay Bridge.

Oh, c'mon now, you're telling me that people that live on one side of the bridge NEVER have any reason to go to the other side of the bridge?
But people that live on the other side of the bridge DO have reasons to cross it?

You can't have NO people with reasons to cross the bridge. Otherwise there wouldn't be a bridge.

For the most part, people that live in the Bay Area outside of San Francisco use the Bay Bridge to commute to work while people that actually live in the city do not have to cross the Bay Bridge to commute to work.

Actually the departure in under control of the US Coastguard. A local pilot had to be in charge.

That’s a pilot who will be retiring shortly. The job paid well too.

OK, so shoot me, I consider the bay area as San Francisco, in general.
I know that there are other cities scattered around the bay area but not many know those, other than Oakland.

If a moving vessel strikes a fixed object, it’s technically called an allision

Ya learn something new every day.

Are you kidding?

People 50-75 miles away from SF claim that they live in the “Bay Area.”

Now, do you, or did you, live in the area, or did you look at a map?

I have a friend in the business who says it was the Delta tower. The Delta - Echo span is used frequently by ship traffic. I wonder who the pilot was. I’m sure we’ll hear the gossip soon.

He might be able to do a song and dance to the Coasties. Depends on who he is and his record.
