I agree with you and wagglebee. I believe that we lay people and truly honest and God-fearing clergy could put an end to the 500+ years of schism between our Protestant and Catholic churches. I long for that day.

10Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.

11For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you.

12Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ."

13Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

14I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,

15so that no one would say you were baptized in my name.

According to my Thesaurus, Denomination and Division are synonyms.

Great reply. There’s a lot to think about there.

I’m a Protestant, but I really like Chaput’s clarity. We’re lucky to have him in Colorado, at least for a while (I imagine he’s destined for some big things).

Excellent! So true.
Love this speech.

Marriage and family are the basic building blocks of society. One does wonder why then, the church would start to insist that their priests and clergy be unmarried for the rest of their lives. Suddenly, this God given ordained foundation, of marriage and family, is deemed a sin for men (and women) who want to dedicate their lives to serving Jesus Christ.

Paul said that it was “good” to remain unmarried...but also stated that if one is “lusty” it is better to get married, than to burn with lust.

I mention this here, because perhaps the problem of liberal preists begins here. When they realise that this prohibiton on normal, natural, sexuality is wrong; they perhaps begin to feel that the church may also be wrong about all other feelings and desires-—equating what is blessed by God with that which is abhorrent to God?

I beleive in looking back at the foundations of the Christian church, I beleive that it is important to consider that the first Pope...Peter; was a married man.

Yes, churches can and do take away membership from some unrepentant people.

I beleive that the Ezzos were likewise removed from their church in California. Don’t remember which one it was.

They wrote the series “raising kids God’s way”.

Not that I ever heard of. Misbehavior that I’ve seen is either forgiven or not depending on the church member. Most people just find more agreeable congregations. Ted Kennedy’s veiws seem to fly in the face of Catholic principles but then I’m not a Catholic. At least as the world has gotten smaller it seems the differences in Christians seem much more trivial than in the past. At least I hope so. Abortion is after all abhorhent.
