The Geneva Conventions apply to rules of war between countries that do abide by these rules. The Germans did not follow the rules. If you think we did in WWII when important information was needed you are mistaken. The conventions do not mean a damn thing in relationship to terrorists.
Torture does work. The Germans broke many a French underground operation when they tortured a captured partisan.
Torture is ugly and degrading and soul destroying both to the victim and the one doing it. When the lives of innocents are at stake, what is the moral decision you must make? My vote is on the side of the innocents.
