Semper Fi-- Marines celebrate 232nd year
The Daily Journal (Kankakee) ^ | 11/08/2007 | Mary Baskerville

Posted on 11/08/2007 11:59:12 AM PST by Iron Munro

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

"I would do it again. I think I did more to help my country in the service than I ever would have done by myself. It was wonderful," Chris Ohlhues of Custer Park said in reflecting on her service in the U.S. Marines Corps during World War II at Parris Island in South Carolina.

Marines and others are invited to celebrate the 232nd birthday of the Corps from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday with cake and coffee at the Malcolm J. Mayo VFW Post 5422 at Baltimore and Third Street in Wilmington. The Marines were first commissioned by the Continental Congress on Nov. 10, 1775.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the big day for all Marines and patriots who support the Marine Corps.

Here's to the old Corps and to the new Corps.

SEMPER FI!

Glad to hear they’re not in Iraq anymore.

The movie “Full Metal Jacket” was based on experiences of people in Hotel Company, 2/5.

I was in Charlie 1/5 in 1967-1968.

Welcome to the website for 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines — the most decorated Battalion in the Marine Corps. On behalf of all the Marines, Sailors, and their families, it’s a privilege to have you aboard. We are located at Camp San Mateo aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, and are part of the I Marine Expeditionary Force, 1st Marine Division, 5th Marine Regiment. At times, particularly during deployment periods, several other attachment commands and units call 2/5 home.

2/5 takes great pride in being a part of America’s 9-1-1 Force, ready to deploy anywhere in the world with little or no warning, to fight and win upon arrival. To accomplish our mission, we are dedicated to readiness, selfless service, and family preparedness.

Hopefully, this website will serve as a helpful resource, not only for information about 2/5, but also for points of contact and family readiness. Please feel free to browse and enjoy the site. Keep in mind we are constantly updating this site to bring you the latest information regarding our mission, our personnel, and our accomplishments. Your presence is welcome here and we trust you will enjoy your visit.

RETREAT HELL!
