Psalm 100: 4

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
and into His courts with praise;
be thankful unto Him,
and bless His Name.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: pray; presidentbush; troops; victory
Holy Father,

We come before You with thanksgiving today for You have blessed us with countless gifts of love. May all praise and thanks be given to You, Father, and to the Son and to the Spirit, for You are the one eternal God who has made an everlasting covenant with Your children. Your Word tells us that though the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed, Your kindness shall not depart from us, neither shall the covenant of Your peace be removed. What blessings You heap upon our heads, Great God; for You and Your everlasting love are the greatest gift of all.

Thank You for America, Lord, for we are grateful for the freedoms we have and for the joy of being able to worship You as we please. Thank You for those who came before us, who gave up their homes and braved the seas to seek a land where they could truly bow down to You, the one true God. We remember them with thankfulness for their sacrifices, but also for their vision. We thank You for those who sought You as they designed and formed our government. We praise You for Your hand in this nation throughout the ages. O Lord, by Your infinite mercies, please continue to bless America, and let us never forget our true heritage.

We come with grateful hearts to seek Your blessings for the President You have chosen for us, Lord. How many times throughout the past years we have seen Your work in him and have known that Your hand was upon him. Thank You, Father, for equipping us with a man of God who is unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We know he is but a man; yet through Jesus Christ and the power of the Spirit, he is able to do all that You require of him. You are his God who teaches him what is best. You direct him in the way he should go. We praise You for the counsel You provide him, for You give him sound wisdom. You are his understanding and his strength.

God, You Who are ever watchful, and know all that takes place in heaven and earth, grant Your powerful protection upon all who are serving in our American military units. Please guard them from all harm and danger of body and soul as You grant success in each battle that moves nations toward justice and lasting peace, for Your glory. Hold close to Your heart those who are on watch in Iraq, that the last vestiges of insurrection and terrorism may be overcome.

Help each of us to remember our many blessings this week and always, Lord. We come before You with praise for Your blessings upon all those who faithfully gather at this prayer thread each day. To You be all the praise and honor, the glory and blessing, Gracious God! In the Name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Living Large

READ: 2 Corinthians 6:1-13

We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open. —2 Corinthians 6:11

A boating magazine reports that Serenity, Time Out, Serendipity, and Reel Time are some of the most popular names for boats. Not long ago, I saw the name Living Large on a boat in a Grand Haven, Michigan, marina. I’m not sure what that meant to the boat owner, but to many people, “living large” means to own the best possessions, to take the most exotic vacations, to buy whatever you want, to live life extravagantly.

That kind of life, however, doesn’t bring true purpose or satisfaction. Followers of Jesus Christ are to live large in a different way, as seen in the example of the apostle Paul and of his co-worker Timothy. Paul told the Corinthians, “Our heart is wide open” (2 Cor. 6:11). The King James Version puts it like this: “Our heart is enlarged.” They had given their wholehearted affection to the people, just as a father does to his children as he wraps them in his arms. Now they wanted the same response. So Paul requested, “Now in return for the same . . . you also be open” (v.13).

A large-hearted person shows his affection with his words and actions—freely and generously. As believers, let’s live large today and freely welcome and embrace others in love.

Love through me, Love of God,
There is no Love in me;
O Fire of Love, light Thou the Love
That burns perpetually.  —Carmichael

They do not truly love who do not show their love.  —Shakespeare

To: The Mayor; Faith

Father, let me be as water
Touching the earth, as in a stream
Let me flow gently ‘cross the landscape
Gossamer wings in a sun drenched dream

Let my heart beat deep as thunder
Red clouds rolling ‘cross the sky
May it be soft and filled with wonder
Kissing tears of those who cry

Mine eye need the horizons
Vivid colors east and west
Let the boundaries change
with each passing range
No fences. No locks. Unpossessed.

Lift my heart, Lord,
Let it fly
Give it wings. Lord
To soar on high

Lift my heart, Lord
Every day
You are my wings, Lord
Come what may

Mayor. THAT to me is livin’ large. Amen

Bless you all.
