Mr. Patrick, who spent the stolen money on collect calls he accepted from inmates in city jails and state prisons, some of which officials have said involved phone sex, was sentenced in June 2004 to a year and day in federal prison. He was released in July 2005.

Phone sex with prisoners from his own prison???? And this is another of Rudi's great appointees?

LOL, no, in my “experience” I have never seen, nor talked to any friends or family members about their tax returns, or if they have failed to disclose a renovation, or finagled some mtg info, or accused of lying on a job app, or had a nanny without citizenship papers.

But of course, I would certainly wait to see what their explanation was before sending them to jail. But thats just me.

I know its not en-vogue here to appreciate a mans’ good work, (especially since it was for NYC, land of the evil), but I did, way before 9/11.

So sue me:)

The tax-exempt New York City Correction Foundation was headed by Kerik during his tenure at the Corrections Department. The sole signatory on the foundation’s accounts was Frederick J. Patrick, who pleaded guilty in 2003 to looting the nonprofit (tax-exempt) corporation (stated purpose was to finance programs and activities to strengthen the department).

Patrick held high-level posts in the department from 1994 until 1998, during the administration of Mayor Giuliani. Giuliani went on to name Patrick to a series of higher level posts, including commissioner of juvenile justice and deputy commissioner of community affairs in the Police Department.

Patrick served jailtime; he spent stolen tax-exempt money on collect calls from inmates in city jails and state prisons--------- Phone sex with prisoners from his own prison???? And this is another of Rudi's great appointees?

Rooty's big on "diversity.

Straight pedophiles, predators, sexual deviants. Gay pedophiles, predators, sexual deviants----thieves, tax evaders, liars------they're all on Rooty's A-list for top government jobs.

Really, you have no idea if your family or friends are tax cheats or hire illegals? I know my family well enough to know they aren't tax cheats and don't make behind the scene deals with criminals for their own gain.

I also have more faith in our judicial system than to think that Bernie would be indicted with no evidence.

It makes Rudi feel better about his own shortcomings.

Yikes, well here’s hoping you or yours are never wrongly accused.

If he was a Democrat he could just enter a rehab facility and all would be ok. Oh wait...If he were a Democrat none of this would be news....never happened.

Rudy was and is responsible for the Kerik Debicle! He cannot be dumb enough not to have known nor checked out this guy. Andrea Mitchell knows where the Skeletons are as do the Clintoons. You save your weapons for the right time to inflict the most pain and damage. They will waterboard Rooty in the months before the Election and save the best for the October Surprise!

But for me, his substantial accomplishments are enough for me not to wait and see if his problems are greater than nanny and construction mistakes, that he has clearly paid for in spades.

A public official who lies and takes bribes is the lowest of the low.

Kerik got off lucky for abusing the public trust.

Looks like we can finally dismiss the "nanny" story as reason for his withdrawal as nominee for DHS Sec. According to the indictment [p.27], he lied in email to the White House about his relationship with Interstate ("XYZ") and two John Does (one probably being Lawrence Ray). He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Poor guy... he said he felt like he was on "welfare" cuz he wasn't livin' high on the hog like his mob buddies.

Please read the indictment and let me know if you think this was something more than "construction mistakes" and a "nanny" problem.

And how exactly has Kerik already "paid in spades"?

BIG Bump!

Kerik got off lucky for abusing the public trust.

The max number of years he might serve for this latest indictment is 142 years. I think his luck ran out.

Hey calcowgirl, still mad about me posting a few paragraphs about Kerik’s life and good accomplishments?

Sorry, just thought FR could use a little info on a fellow American who has battled scum murderers in NYC for decades.

And yes I read the illegally leaked transcripts (but that's GOOD illegal right?), last night, and yes, he plead a few years ago to the ethics misdemeanors construction deal, so of course the new stuff and the nanny I haven't hear his explanations, or seen any cross examination

So, sorry, again, I'm waiting to see what he says. But dont' fret he is already destroyed. And take heart, the eeeevil RG could be in pain too.

I’m not mad, I just have a much different view of public corruption than you do. Obviously.

Just like the FBI Special Agent-In-Charge that spoke at the press conference, I find Kerik’s behavior “repugnant.”

“Construction problems.” Unbelievable.

Posted on this related thread (joint effort by Liz/me):

Many thanks for the informative post. Let's run that again:

The United States Attorney - Southern District of New York:

Today we announce the unsealing of an indictment charging former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik with conspiring to receive over a quarter of a million dollars in free renovations from a contractor doing business with the city of New York, with tax crimes, and with lying to to the federal government. Kerik is charged with engaging in a scheme to deprive the city of New York of his honest services while he was the commissioner of the New York City Department of Correction and New York City Police Department.

A company that was seeking to do business with the city paid more than $250,000 for renovations on an apartment owned by Kerik. During the time Kerik secretly accepted these payments he lobbied city officials on behalf of his benefactors — in effect selling his office, in violation of his duty to the people of the city. Several of the payments were made on his behalf after he had taken an oath as the New York City police commissioner, breaking the laws he had sworn to uphold.

The indictment charges that Kerik went to great lengths to conceal the scheme. He did so: (1) by filing four separate false financial disclosure reports with city officials which concealed the payments, (2) by misleading city officials about his relationship with those who were paying him, and (3) by obstructing the city’s investigation by causing multiple witnesses to lie to the investigators.

Kerik is also charged with obstructing the I.R.S. and filing false tax returns. He repeatedly failed to disclose to the I.R.S. and his own accountants the full extent of his income, and in some cases, provided false information about deductions.

Income items that Kerik is alleged to have failed to report include:

* The $225,000 paid on his behalf for the apartment renovations;

* Over $236,000 in rental payments made on his behalf by a Manhattan developer; and

* About $100,000 he received from a software company and a book publisher.

Kerik also failed to report his employment of an off-the-books nanny and to pay the applicable payroll taxes.

Are the MSM waiting to spring it AFTER he’s been selected as the Republican nominee?

Yes. Politics of Personal Destruction at its timeliness finest. Right out of the Clinton playbook. And yes, I'd believe that the Clintonistas are playing the MSM like a fiddle on this one.
