He was a passable writer, but was a phenomenal shill for the left and that was why he was elevated to such 'godlike' status in the literary world. Never enjoyed his work, but man was I forced to choke it down in grad school. From all accounts, Mailer sounded like such an angry, wretched venemous person.

Still, someone who loved him is probably hurting right now, so my prayers are with them.

Nasty, wife-beating old anti-American hack.

Mailer DID support Timothy McVeigh.

I remember now (that I have had a cup of coffee).

They were pen pals and Norman Mailer was doing interviews all over TV in the days before McVeigh’s execution. Mailer said that he and McVeigh were close friends.

The leftists are in mourning for this scum.

DFU SONG: Norman (Norman Mailer, you suck) 9-6-02
DFU SONG PARODIES | 9-2002 | Lyrics, Doug from Upland

Posted on 09/06/2002 6:45:42 PM PDT by doug from upland

MIDI - NORMAN

He hates this nation, there is little doubt
Just watch him pout…he's burned out
I see his face and then I think of trout
That's Norman Mailer

Yes, he is a guy who's had six wives
They must have all had such hellish lives
There remains a question about Adele
Why did he stab her, oh, do tell

Norman, why are you unpatriotic
Norman, you are truly idiotic
Norman, Norman, you suck

He's getting thirsty and he needs some booze
It's rum he'll choose…then he'll snooze
He has his fill and throws up on his shoes
That's Norman Mailer

Yes, he is a guy who's had six wives
They must have all had such hellish lives
There remains a question about Adele
Why did he stab her, oh, do tell

Norman, why are you unpatriotic
Norman, you are truly idiotic
Norman, Norman, you suck

He knew how to hustle the ‘intellectual’ crowd in NY.

He knew how to keep himself in the news because the news is leftist. Just like Susan Sontag.

He probably never read Marx.

He was a mediocre writer.

Even “The Simpsons” got in a shot at Mailer. I remember one episode where Lisa — normally the liberal intellectual — complained that she couldn’t stand to read one more line of Mailer “waxing nostalgic about his waning libido.” That about sums him up for me.

In my opinion, his best work was when he made a cameo appearance on “The Gilmore Girls”.

The AP just can’t write a lead sentence without injecting its political slant. “Literary conscience?” Please...

Having been forced to read some of his turgid nonsense in high school, I can only say I really couldn’t care much less.

Still prayers to his family who are hurting from the loss.

I think that sums it up.

I read that trash ‘In the Belly of the Beast’ that mailer thought was so great.

That was by Jack Abbot about Jack Abbot. He hung himself.

Had to read the garbage in school. Wrote a paper.

The weird pervert instructor hated my guts, but had to give me a good grade because I was the only one who actually read it. I threw the Marquis de Sade in his face all through out the paper... he must have been a masochist...

“He hung himself.”

Good. Knew he died. Didn’t know how.
Abbott was a piece of $hit.
