Jack Bauer is in deep trouble. He can disarm bombs, torture Islamic terrorists and even threaten to kill a duplicitous president. But Bauer cant bust up a strike by Hollywood screenwriters against network execs, so Season 7 of the hit Fox TV series 24 has been postponed indefinitely from its Jan. 13, 2008, premiere date.

Did a search and didn't see this. Looks like even "going carbon neutral" isn't going to save the premiere of "24". :)

Oh, gosh. I hope this doesn’t have an affect on American Idol.

What a parallel, Jack Bauer, nothing could stop him, he did what it took to keep the US safe...stopped by a union worker’s strike, stopped before he could do his job.
US Military and Intel Agencies doing what they have to do to keep America safe, being stopped by union backed Democrats...
Hmm...coincidence...you decide...

Hey, I am available for the next couple months and could write episodes better than last year. I'll just ramp up the body count and most viewers won't miss the soap opera-like plot twists.
Of course I'll get fired for insisting that Nadia's character wear only lingerie.

After sucking up the the muzzies last season I can’t say I am all that concerned. Just please tell me the stike will be ended by the start of the Shield. Vic has surpassed Jack as a real man IMHO.

If this screen writer’s strike will kill reality TV, I don’t care if it lasts 10 years. Please stay on strike!

Reality TV is the only thing it WON’T kill. In fact, without writers, reality TV is all that’s left, other than sports.

If they sign by Christmas, look for Fox to double up on episodes for a few weeks and still get it done by Memorial Day.
To: Recovering_Democrat
A strike might actually be an improvement over the last couple of seasons.

If they’ve already wrapped up season 2 of Jericho, then the writers can remain on strike for all I care.

This strike is one of those conflicts where I’m hoping both sides lose.

I can see The Tonight Show and other shows that need material based on daily news being effected by the strike, but I don’t get ‘24’ being effected. Isn’t the whole season, the story of a 24-hour crisis, written before production begins? Please tell me they don’t make it up and “write it” as they go along....

Just please tell me the stike will be ended by the start of the Shield. Vic has surpassed Jack as a real man IMHO. Amen to that. I like 24, but The Shield (IMHO) is a much better show. More realistic and 'gritty' as compared to 24's comic-book like structure. More compelling in terms of storylines also.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will take it's (24) place and debut on Monday, January 14, 2008 on fox.
There is a joke going around that they should air the 8 episodes 3 times and nobody will probably notice it. I say air the 8 episodes and call it 8.

November 8, 2007 -- TURNS out Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is a huge fan of "24." When he heard Kiefer Sutherland, who plays counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer, was in Washington, D.C., over the weekend to shoot the hit Fox series, Chertoff paid a visit to the set outside the Willard Intercontinental Hotel to see art imitating his life. "He observed them filming a scene and talked with executive producer Brad Turner," a rep for the L.A.-based show told The Post's Melissa Jane Kronfeld. Sutherland even met his real-life counterparts, a group of 15 counter-terrorist FBI agents, who posed for a photo with the star. Producers shot more scenes at the Jefferson and Washington Memorials, the Capitol and in Georgetown. Among the throngs of fans who shouted, "Go Jack!" and "Kiefer, Kiefer!" was Motion Picture Association head Dan Glickman. After wrapping, Sutherland was spotted eating at Nathan's and bar-hopping at Billy Martin's and McFadden's.

Nah, I see the opposite ... a series like 24 needs careful plot development that runs across episodes, involves multiple characters, needs special effects, etc. That takes a team of writers and a ton of work. Leno and co. basically do a stand up routine, with musical segments, interviews, etc. Now are you telling em that they couldn't interview someone about the book they just wrote or the flick they just released without a team of writers telling Jay and his guest what to say? That is waaaaaaaaaaaay telling. And good grief, does that mean that Larry King actually pays people to make him look that lightweight? And Geraldo? Leno and his cohorts have no excuse.
I can understand why 24 would pause for writing but I could also see the producers saying the heck with that, we're filming in Orlando in a right-to-work state.

Please tell me they dont make it up and write it as they go along....They got a late start this year, something about wanting to shoot some of it in another country, and maybe some legal problems for Keiffer? (heh, Jack woulda just blown up the evidence!)So, their normal shooting schedule was way behind. And, yes, sometimes the writers do make it up as they go along.

Well, if it lasts long enough it might kill soap operas but reality tv is cheap and less dependent on writers. A lengthy strike would give you even more, so you might want to hope for a swift end.
If they get desperate enough, they might even find a new celebrity trial to fill the time too. Imagine. reality T.V. AND O.J. part 2! LOL
Seriously, I can’t stand most reality shows ...
though, yeah, sorry I do like four out of 6 of the seasons of AI and like that Chef ramsey guy. :-)
...but I can’t stand most scripted shows the last few years either. Instead of settling with these writers, they should use this as an opportunity to bring in fresh blood that might have some talent that doesn’t care about being ostracized by the strikers because they need bread on the table.
Can’t say i’m on the business side either, the writer’s have a point, I’d just be a lot more sympathetic if they produced better material.
As for the talk shows, good riddance. But I have one question. Why are the nightly “news”cast still on air? Aren’t their fiction writers on strike too?
